Seussical the Musical - many cast changes occurred during this show's run: Rosie O'Donnell, Cathy Rigby, Aaron Carter... it still closed in a few months.
As long as a it makes you smile a musical doesn't haven't to make every bit of sense. The point of musical theatre is for the audience to escape into a entirely different world that will never known in "reality". Seussical is a DEFINITE example of that :)
i love seussical and its one of my favorite shows. i was gertrude mcfuzz when i did it. it ended up being the biggest audience my high school ever had for a musical.
The original show only lasted a few months; with several casting changes including Rosie (the view), arron carter, and andrea martin. Since it's closed; it has been performed in schools and community theaters all over the world. Plus a new version revival that was performed in Toronto, Canada.
i had the great honor of getting to play mayzie in suessical. it required a lot of stamina and vocal practice, but it is one of my favorite roles ive played. :]
@Kroovy68 For this version they're lip synching. It's too cold and open for the sound to travel correctly in an arena like that. It would sound awful no matter how well they were actually singing. On stage they always perform live, and they always do amazing, but not for a parade.
I completely agree! I played Yertle in my schools production. I also was in it with a cast of various ages. The vocal score for the jungle characters is very taxing, especially if your a soprano and you director decides to change your part, making you sing higher! The yertle part was written for a guy and has an extremely low note in it, I couldn't hit that note. My director made me sing it up two octaves. She also made me sing the cat part at the beginning of the trial.
As the show opens the characters/actors tell the audience they are going to tell the stories of Dr. Seuss. There's no need to look 'realistic' because the script set the characters up as story tellers. It's a staple of children's theatre (theatre for children, not by children) to have people playing animals look like people reminiscent of those animals and so children use their imagination.
omg! ive been looking EVERYWHERE 4 a video of the OBC. thanx 4 posting it. im doing this play right now, and im mrs.mayor. having so much fun!!! i must say though, watching this, i was kind of dissapointed by the actor who played horton. he didn't have that 'friendly giant' feel 2 him, not as much acting as i had hoped
im pretty sure that o donnell and rigby were the cat in the hat (understudies probably) and carter was jojo. i read that some where..... correct me if im wrong.
This was done a few years after the show closed; They had to get the cast together, redo rehearsals, etc. Why would they do all that for a show that closed already?

This performace was actually broadcast while the show was still in previews on Broadway. A week or so after this it opened to scathing reviews.

I love them.
I was listening to the soundtrack but then I saw this and was like omg. It just amazed my how much they sound like the tape!
240p we meet yet again!
Did anyone else notice Mayzie at 3:09? She was the only one determined 2 scare Gertrude. It made me laugh.

@NickBFilms The production wasn't the best executed, and just didn't find an audience. Great company, though... Had a great time when I went.
@howlongleft everyone that performs on the parade has to lip sync. it's some sort of rule.
I love it!!
I got the Sour Kangaroo part in my play and i want to be just like that!!
I was the sour kangaroo when i did it :)
This was taped before Aaron Carter was stunt-cast in the show the following year.
i met sharon wilkins yesterday when i saw Xanadu, she is the sweetest person ever, and what a voice
I love this show! I it was still on broadway!

the original broadway cast is awesome!
This pretty cool in a weird way.
This was done a few years after the show closed; They had to get the cast together, redo rehearsals, etc.
Why would they do all that for a show that closed already?
@Francine3i I agree!!

I'm horton in the school musical. But it's just seussical jr.
If you're talking about this one, its because its mean to horton, who's the good guy. If you're talking about solla sollew...idk...
Some of the *words* are different, actually.

Haha I wish that I could be a wickersham brother but I'm a girl haha
And yes, that's really them singing live. You tend to come close to singing perfection when you do it every night on BROADWAY. Hello.
nope
Wow, Mayzie is a LOT older than I pictured her, and the Sour Kangaroo resembles a chubby demon. Great voices, though.
