This is a very great love letter to the game ^_^. I also really like this game and relate to most of your analysis. It's my favorite tales and also one of the best JRPGs I played. The combat is so great, I felt it went a bit short in your review and also the evolving relationship between Alphen and Shionne went such a great way, it's one of the best points of the story. That definitely needs an extra video.
Thank you! Yeah I definitely did enjoy the combat, I think I just need to get more practice with it before I can really talk about it in depth. And I'm definitely planning on doing a video about Alphen and Shionne at some point in the future, their relationship has so much depth!
I loved this game so much. Took a couple of hours to connect with it. Then I was addicted and I couldn't put it down. Loved the expansion too. Nearly perfect epilogue
This was an amazing review of the game! I’m currently speedrunning the game and needed a good reminder of why this game was so special. My wife doesn’t like these types of games but after this she wants to play it.
This game is such a gem I can’t believe it’s been out for so long now. I know they’ve announced that mobile tales of game but I’m dying to see what the next tales of will be after such a feat of a rpg
Thanks for this. Btw- January 22, 2023 is Tales of Zestiria's 8th Anniversary. I was happy to find a Tales game review/commentary uploaded from your channel on a day that is already very special to me. I love your analyses- your style is always soothing and calming, for some reason. I always look forward to more from you. Again, thanks so much. ^_^
I bow to you with the utmost respect, this analysis is amazing and what I've been searching for for so long! The character and relationship analysis are delightful, you taught me a whole buncha stuff too! Also the "take a shot every time i mention the analysis" felt that felt that down to my soul
I played Arise already and platinum it by accident xD I completed every sidequest, got every weapon and defeated all the extra bosses (it was a chore becuase i had to grind a LOT but so satisfying at the end) and just like that i got the platinum trophy and I was like 😲 (it was my first platinum trophy ever so imagine my excitement) I still need to get the DLC and play it but I plan to eventually, but yes this game is awesome from beggining to end, I'm a hardcore tales of series fan
I still need to finish this game. I stopped playing around the time when we reached the guy that nabbed shion (I can't think of his name). Got to the castle, and the game froze. I lost 2hrs of time (normally good at saving when I see a save point but I was having too much fun learning Law) and took a long drawn-out break from the game. Your vibe and positive energy got me in the mood to play it again. Thank you for helping my workday go by a bit smoother.
Not gonna lie, Arise never really caught my interest, especially given Berseria's cast and story had me in a choke hold. But listening to your video convinced me to give Arise a chance, and I'm loving it so far! (also no worries on spoilers - spoilers usually make me more interested in a story than anything else)
Also, I won't lie. The Dohalim battle theme was hands down the best track imo. Just the emotion of the events prior to him losing control, and when you hear him scream, "ENOUGH!!" I was invested.
Great review of Tales Of Arise!~ I totally agree with your opinion with the Training Grounds. I played Tales Of Berseria and that game was pretty complex so i wished that game had a training area to practice to my hears content! 😁
Something I love is that the Owl King and Queen are voiced by Ray Chase and Erica Lindbeck in english, and I would assume the same is true in Japanese where it's the same VAs as Alphen and Shionne. Take that with the bit of Alphen and Shionne """""interpretting""""" the Owl King and Queen and it's pretty clear what the point is
Tremendous video. Even though I really enjoyed my time through this game it was kind of a let down, I still rank Symphonia and Vesperia higher in my personal Tales of list. As far as combat it was really enjoyable especially the risk reward fire blade of Alphen and as for the other characters I enjoyed Rinwell the most and Kisara was awesome to play too. I still have 30 mins to watch I'll watch the rest some other time really enjoyed your analysis of this game great stuff!
It wouldn't make sense. Alphen was a soldier from before the Renans' conquest of Dahna, and he wouldn't have been around in Cyslodia to be the Dahnan Hero because he was in hibernation for 300 years.
I wonder if since zephr's animal imagery is a wolf and laws is a dog if law is carrying the weight of zephyr on his shoulders like zephyrs will and his own regrets
I’m a bit late commenting but I’d just like to say, this is hands down my favorite Tales game. It’s ridiculously good, 10/10 for me. I’ve played most of the Tales games but Arise is on a different level. Love the characters and the world and the story. Speaking of story, at around 16 min you say the story is “undoneable???”. What did you actually say right there? I even turned CC on and that’s how it spelled the world. I know it definitely not right but I’m just curious what you said about the story right there. Combat is fantastic 10/10. To me Arise is a perfect game.
this was great keep doing these. also, tangent, but why did the make kisara so hot 😂 since release the had hear in the artwork at the EXTRA angles and that soundtrack art is just another example.
English. I tried to play in Japanese, because I watch anime in Japanese. But honestly there was SO MUCH going on onscreen I couldn't relax and submerge into the story while racing mu eyes through the subs. I'm happy to say that the English VAs did an AMAZING JOB. Eastern writing is pretty dramatic and sound OTT in English. But yeah, the English voices were endearing and grew on me fast.
It's am awesome game. It's rough near the end but nothing changing the difficulty to Story does not fix. (That Final Dungeon is Pharos level of tedious)
I hope you will find some time to read this: I play a lot of JRPG games. And if I do...I give them 100 % of my freetime to complete everything. My personal favourite is Xenoblade Chronicles 1. Here is the thing tho: I am currently 27 years old - and I would say that my taste when it comes to anime focused media has changed quite a bit. I cant really watch to many anime shows nowadays because I get annoyed by the constant childish humor or plot and the same boring one sided story or character personalities. Every time you have a male childish protagonist who fights for his friends and gets a harem with trophy like female companions...I am really tired of this. Sadly, since I started disliking this in anime...it also went on the JRPG side of things. Games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 ... that I liked originaly ... I could never replay do to its "cringe anime" nature sometimes. That being said: I have only played Tales of Berseria and Arise up until now...But for Arise specifically I must say: I have never seen a JRPG handeling its story and characters so maturely. The way the group reacts to problems is 100 % relatable. It doesnt matter how much they trust / like each other. They still get into conflicts and it takes others from outside to pull them out. Its not always that easy and its great that Arise shows that. Every time another game would avoid a question do to spoiler a potentioal future plottwist...this game just asks the obvious. So you never feel like the characters behavior was stupid do to the story. They always asked what is the right thing to ask in that moment. They all act human and realistic ... Shionne when she fights against herself as soon as she realizes that her original goal is not the thing she still wants... Or Rinwell when you see her struggeling with or "White / Black" way of thinking. Law you slowly tries to come to terms with him indirectly killing his father - and trying others to do equaly bad decisions. Kisara who loses all her trust towards Dohalim after she saw what his real intentions where...only to realize that the actions matter...not the intention. And of course Alphen... the in my opinion best male protagonist I have ever seen. He has flaws (which is rare in the protagonist spectrum) - he is not horny what soever. He is not childish, he thinks things trough, he cares about everyone and not just Shionne, he has self doupt and needs supports from others from time to time. The way this game treats his characters reacting the on another or the world around them is exactly what I miss in most anime nowadays. Its more mature, less unrelatable and also less cringe. I adore Tales of Arise. The person that wrote this script should get rewareded imo.
She's 16 and lacked any sort of real emotional guidance before meeting the party other than her own hatred, of course she's not gonna be the picture of intelligence
@@bunm.8530 Well, I take it back. I believe I'm now at the half point of the game and I'm starting to see a glimpse of maturity on her part. I too have rushed to conclusions before realizing the depth of her character. I'm afraid that I've fallen into judgements on her that I'm not proud of now. I apologize.
Couldn’t get myself to finish the game. To me the longer the story of went on, the worse it got. And the antagonist, so one note. I’d give the game is 6 out of 10 simply too repetitive and an interesting
Yeah, berserk’s story is. Is superior in almost every way. All the characters have interesting and conflicting goals And the antagonist I given enough story time to understand their motivations and conflicting goals One thing arise, gets completely wrong There antagonist so bland,
It felt like treason to me, and I still stuggle thinking of it as part of the Tales of series. The 13 year old me would probably love this game and probably it's what he would have wanted the series to be after he played ToS. But Now that I have played almost all of them and understand what makes the series good and charming despite most games being behind other RPGs of their time is precisely that they were not obsessed with making the makes just look cool and be marketeable. That it's what this game feels to me... and is still as flawed as any other Tales of. All of it is partly my fault. I have such a clear vision of what the series should be and what I want form it that it would be hard for them to please me. But when the last lord was "defeated" and the plot unraleved and the second OP played I thought they got it. That I would kinda what I wanted. But then it was just another rushed second half devoted to exposition adn wrapping things up just almost in any way with another very poor dungeon at the end and a very dissapointing final boss. I just hope the next one reallly does inheritance and evolution respectfully and feels like a Tales of to me.
A fantastic analysis on Tales of Arise is by youtuber DreamlordofGaming, with his video titled "Tales of Arise Critique - When a Great Story Fails" since he analyzes the story to the most minute detail, and I agree with MANY of his criticisms of it. To be clear, Tales of games were NEVER primarily known for it's plot ( Personally, If I was to rate JRPGs in terms of plot, I don't think I'd put any on the ones I'd played in my top ten) , but what Tales IS known for is it's action combat, and character interactions (enhanced by it's skits, though honestly fun banter can only get you so far). That said, Arise's story was particularly stupid IMO. DreamlordofGaming analysis here for anyone that's curious: th-cam.com/video/qW3qz_euG_w/w-d-xo.html
Why would you recommend an anti-Arise video to someone who enjoyed the game's story? They're not gonna bother watching it. No one asked for a "Tales of Arise's story sucks" video here.
@@Anonymous-i5r8gso that you're able to see both sides if you're curious about what people with opposite opinions think? It doesn't even sound like an "anti" video based off of what the comment you replied to described it as.
