Neyo was interviewed about the situation looong ago, i remembered the interviews. Neyo said that it was a situation that was out of his control, but he did enjoyed their version.

We need an episode where unnu sit down with Shadow to explain how owning your masters and publishing works. Because as somebody said in this comment section, he said he wanted it cleared..that doesn't mean he could have it cleared. Plus him saying the streets gave the impression that even if he didn't want to, the response was undeniable
The record label owns the master copy of the track...they had the power to issue the cease and desist order...or to give permission for it to be used in a commercial...tv series or movie...they did make the call to pull the record...they probably feared that the song's growing popularity at the time would diminish the value and significance of miss independent...it is important to note that the label...at the request of the artist or beat maker/studio producer could could've issued the stop order...or they might have acted off their own volition

Fam the artist cannot clear records unless he owns the masters. Neyo could not clear it he could only say he wanted it cleared ,but that's all.
Yes but it is the artist song a lot of artist dont own there masters and can still clear other songs to be sampled or remixed masters or not he just doesn’t have the full rights to the single which also includes 100 % royalties and more !

@@bjvu9460 owning publishing only has to do with the lyrics (or the beat for the producer)... Who owns the masters dictates whether or not the song can be sampled
People don’t realize how powerful labels are. Ne-Yo wasn’t against the song being cleared, it was his label. There’s a reason why the term “being a slave to their own label” is such a hot topic. Some artists get copyright claims on their own songs when they upload it to their own TH-cam channels on top of that.

That's worlboss impactful and very creative!!! He's a genius!!! #FreeWorlboss & big up neyo, but i think he's not being entirely honest here. I sure we all heard notnice said they got a laywer letter from neyo's team which was threatening and was of copyright infringement. Maybe it was out of his hand really base on how the industry works.

You guys overestimate how much say these artist have... Lil wayne literally used to be recording verses for his friends songs as a favor but the artist could not put out the song with Wayne's voice on it because the label did not approve it. Joe budden was one such artist.
industry politics, always felt like majority publishing and masters owners just neva into the ramping shop. at the end of the day taking someonelses beat and doing whatever u want without consent wasnt legal and the owners reserve di right to defend their IP. legal aspects of music always overlooked inna ja

No sure why we cussing Ne-Yo here. At the end of the day whenever an artiste gonna sample someone else's song they need to seek permission first. So that would be the responsibility of Kartel and his team, that's how it works.

Addi and spice rampin shop did chart higher den ne-yo song that’s why ne-yo blocked it not just di label the song was very new and he wasn’t gonna clear it. Right after that he went to Jamaica to perform thinkin he would get di same response as addi and it flopped. He also said something to offend everyone I can’t remember what but it happened at his Jamaican press conference.
Romping shop did not chart higher than Miss Independent at any point. The song was blocked because Ne-yo does not own the rights to his music at that time,so he cannot make the call to clear it. Clearing it now or after years does not make any sense either because the song is old. If it did chart higher and made more money the label would have sued which they didn't because it did not make enough money and Vybz Kartel is not that huge on the international scene.
@@islandpatriot2941 actually yuh is wrong rampin shop did top neyo on the billboard that’s how the everyone about the song internationally because if it was just local to the Caribbean it wouldn’t have mattered that much because it wasn’t for sale it was just available on TH-cam and radio at the time. Neyo flat out blocked it and performed in Jamaica literally right after and didn’t get the same response. I remember the story very much.
