    Wow. And I am just getting started. I have a tr-8s, hydrasynth explorer arrived yesterday. Dreadbox typhon on the way. The Roland S-1 seems to work well and sound good. I also have a collection of volcas that I am not too crazy about.

      @@Wildb0y cool mate thanks Iv only got a Mpc a td3 and a volca keys at the moment I was thinking about a ms 1 or a korg minilogue next what do you think

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting question! Which MPC have you got? I love the MS-20, I have a soft spot for it as it’s so versatile, has some great querks and is a great teacher of synthesis. I would personally go for that but then you need to program it from the MPC. Hence the question. This choice would be with view to later down the line considering the Korg monologue for some poly action, another fantastic synth korg, one act korg has a great range of synths they do a good job of making them fun and unique.

    Love the setup! And very nice liveset indeed. I've been contemplating setting up in a flightcase aswell. For now with my pyramid, tempest, tanzbar, nord drum 2, blofeld en minitaur. The velcro creates so many extra space and ease of use (easy swapping). I do however wonder if you are not afraight of damaging the gear, it beeing directly attached to the case's shell? Are you using the bottom wheels to transport it? Could you share travel your experiences after running it for these years?

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi crankyb. THanks for the comment. It was a great case but alas i have gone futher down the rabbit hole. If you look into my channel you will see, because i had to go travelling arounn the world, i created a mk3 case using a Nanuk 990 rather than a custom flight case. Through many complex decisions the mk3 case is now what im using to produce on. It combines the thinking with what you have seen in the video but refined in terms of size, weight, choice of hardware along with foam and much more!

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Your setup sound like an awesome combo, perhaps check out the Nanuk case range incase they might have one that works for you. The great thing about out some of the cases is they have removable hinges, giving you the option to take the lid of off when using the gear which is super useful.

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sorry my replies didn't actually answer the direct question about the case! So the flight case in this video was custom made to my spec snd yes i stuck the hardware using the velcro to the inner case wall. I wasn't too worried about any damage as i was only using it in the uk. From driving and carrying around the virus ti2 did slip off the velcro once but it doesn't have much room to move due to the cables going past it. One of the reasons i changed cases, was i need to take the rig on a plane, (and open boats in tropical storms!) which pointed me at Nanuk case. I think flight case with no foam and velcro on the inner hard shell is ok for occasional use so depends on how much live you are planning on doing. The other major factor in al of this is the weight. Infect my mk3 is designed around this. Once you get your gear and cables etc in there it all adds up. The mk2 in this video was 30kg...so quite hard to carry far! the mk3 is around 20kg, a big difference.

    • @crankybird
      @crankybird 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha, wanted to follow up on that. Apologies for the late reply. I just found my case! It's a second hand older version of the Gator GTSA 76 keys. It does not have the detachable lid but for now the model you shared on this video will fit my needs better. It's the only case that I could find that had more then 45cm of depth. Was not able to find the exact model online. I'm planning to put a second layer on the lower-end of the lid, just like you did in this setup. The biggest puzzle is going to be to make things fit in height and getting the cabeling to fit.. the idea will be adding and cutting some foam shapes to raise the gear on that level to comfortable height and also add some velcro there. Also took note of the tip in reducing the need for individual power plugs. In total I will be running: Tempest, Tanzbar, Nord drum 2, Minitaur, Blofeld, Nux Atlantic fx, Soundcraft Notepad 12fx, Pyramid, Motu midi express, 2 keysteps, 2 launchpad mini, 2 faderfox ec4's and just picked up the Nympes as well (obviously missing some compression /saturation and a sampler. But that will be a later worry. Same goes for later discovering that the squarp is too less of a performance tool..). Definitely also picked up the tip for reducing the amount of individual power outputs saving space.
      The intension has been a live jam setup and I'm glad I'm picking it up again.
      Exciting times coming up.
      Now back to making the 3D model. Let me know if you have more tips. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again!

    Mate this is absolutely amazing, very smart how you've put everything into a flight case, once I experiment more with my live setup and bring it down to the bare minimum I'll definitely be exploring with getting a case like yours + the modular! Might hit you up for tips when the time comes :)
    For the next setup have you thought about having 2 cases instead of 1 really big one? Might be better for transportation at the price of having to connect a few cables between them. I saw some really smart people just put the I/Os directly into the back of the case, looks really neat!

    I really like your setup and overview of everything you use. I'm thinking of going dawless in regards to a recording standpoint. I like recording om my computer using different software, but I want to gain more independence from having a dawless setup. I'm a bit on the older side, and back in the day (80s to early 90s) even when MIDI was "new", everything was mainly done without automation and in real time. And recording from home was done via 4 tracks and also more.. towards reel to reel if you had the money. Good luck to you as you go forward with your music.

      Hi, the case in the video was made specifically for this setup. So I laid all the equipment out how I wanted it, made a bit of room for cables/power and sent the design off to swan flight cases. After using this case for a year its great, but heavy and I needed to make a setup that would be easier to travel with so I have made a dramatic change to swapped out most equipment for smaller / lighter and now use a "off the shelf case" from Nanuk.

    So you just take stereo outs of the mx1 to record or are you taking a multitrack via mx1 usb to a computer?

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So all the stuff your hearing and will hear is just the stereo out. Partly because that's the ethos and also the mx-1 FX do not come out on a multi track channel (which is pretty crazy it doesn't) so you would miss that part of the performance. For my single releases next year i'm going to do multi track recordings and then do the final touches / additional production in the studio, as thats where some of my skills are, and it wold be. shame not to encompass everything I do. The heart of the music is creating sounds, composing, recording into the machines then practicing live arranging of sounds and structure, along with manipulation the sounds so I can record it all in one take....thats the idea anyway!

    Do you use any compression? I didn’t hear you mention anything?

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve. So the strymon Decco will
      very slightly compress the drums with its saturation. The blue box output has a gentle mix bus style compression going on which is mixing the sampler, synths etc together Apart from that the only compression comes from the looopstaion, some on the acoustic instrument inputs and also in its master out. The loop station has master compression in its main out which seems to have a limiting quality to it also. I have this turned in at 3%. Any more and it starts to become obvious. So all of those stages are subtle but over all help in giving the sound a bit of solidness to its sound. Most importantly is getting the levels right. You don’t need much compression for many of the sounds if you get this right.

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve, apologies I answered this question thinking about my latest setup. In the setup you see in this video, rave box mk2 rather than 3, the only compression is the the ‘mastering’ button on the mx1 output, which is a subtle compression and limiting.

    • @goesbysteve
      @goesbysteve ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for detailed current and video setup. Sounds like you preference a transparent lighter touch? It’s not a subject that gets much airtime. I’m waiting to get a Digitakt for drums and sequencer for other hardware. That has a compressor now but was wondering if I get a more FX colouring compressor or if I’d not end up using it much. I currently use a 90’s Mackie mixer with no effects. I realise it depends on music genre and taste.

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goesbysteve hi Steve thanks for the question. Apart from the obvious dynamic control compression can do there is also it rhythmic element, the way you set it up to groove with what ever it compressing. This timing is what can make or break using a compressor well. When it comes to the digitakt, if you are using drum samples then ultimately you don’t really need compression as you are able to control the dynamic range using velocity. But you can use compression in this situation if you want to create a certain vibe / feel. In another situation with the digitakt where you are using a vocal sample for example, then it’s quite possible, if it is not already processed, to use the compressor tame the dynamic range of the vocal along with the other sounds you have sequenced. So yes it is dependant on the genre if music you are making. But just imagine a decent studio, they don’t have limitless compressors at their disposal. You don’t need as much compression as we think we do, especially with the limitless supply daws! Hope my ramblings are helpful. :)

I didn't find an answer to my question on the Internet. It is necessary to disable MX-1, then Ableton live starts without problems. The drivers are fresh and reinstalled. How can I fix this problem?

    • @Wildb0y
      @Wildb0y  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Gabriel, have your latest firmware update on the mx-1? I think its version 1.05. Also depending on how you are using the mx-1 you may need to put it into mixer mode. To be honest I have had digital glitching problems with the mx-1 when trying to track all the different inputs separately. I have heard you need to turn plugin and turn on the mx-1 AFTER you have turned the computer on for some reason. The only other thing I can thing of is there is a problem with your USB port functionality. There is a chance that the mx-1 just inset working properly.
      I now only use it as a mixer and then record the stereo output into my UAD interface, which is fully committing to to the mix. I then only use the computer to get the files ready for video or streaming. This work method is very liberating compared to the in-depth DAW mixing and I producing I do when working with pop artists!
