What year? The year when Jimmy Fallon played games throughout the night with his guest (basketball, charades, twitzer or karaoke) or during the years when he followed the legends with comedians of variety on their shows.

And the crowd still booed. He did a song I can't find any where. it was My Favorite Things, to the Mary Poppins song.
I think his old material wasn’t very funny. Nursery rhymes and crude locker room talk. I get why people went to the shows but this is real comedy. This is dialogue with references and observation.
Best act I've ever seen from him. Forced to construct it better because he can't just do the sweary nursery rhymes, and he's up to the task easily. Even had a "I'm over here now" thrown in. Nice.
If you watch other stand up late night sets, you’ll see they do this to a lot of people. And the reason why is because some comics use a lot of gestures or are more physical with their jokes. When they’re doing their act outs, the audio would be lost in their movement which is why they also have lapel mics. It’s a back up to keep the audio consistent and leveled. Hope this helps!
