My friend called me the day before he "deleted" himself. We haven't "talked talked" in years. We used to be housemates. He recently went through a divorce. I offered to pay for his flight from the US to Brighton and to move in with me. At least for 90 days on the passport allowance because he didn't have a visa and was staying in a hostel that was full of junkies. He lost everything and had a lot of baggage. We agreed that was the plan, and we'd finalise it in the next day or two. Never was able to get to that.
That conversation has haunted me for some time, and blaming yourself is very common. Constantly, I think about what would happen if I said "this" or "that". I eventually got closure, realising nothing that I could have said or done would have changed his mind.
This song really hits home for me and I love it because su!cide grief is very real. I was crying with you, my dude. If you are ever in Brighton, let me know, and we'll go out for some pints.

@Carl-gj4ed sorry for that sadly quite a lot of stories of the day before involve reaching out to others on the part of the victim. You can’t hope to have decoded everything when it felt like you were building plans for the future. Sure he would be apologising to you now if he could.

I’m a 48 year truck driver from Eastern Canada, there’s a lot about my life I’m not ok with; no ability to follow passions and hobbies due to selling my life 5 days at a time, a partner who doesn’t get my sensitive side cause they’re busy ducking my rage (metaphorically not literally) and they’re not the type for inward inspection. I find myself staying up late after she goes to bed when I’m home on the weekends watching reaction videos to beautiful music (I do this on the road too) crying rivers for feeling something with what seems like other like minded souls. No one reaches me like REN
He is a gift to us all and I hope he knows it.
Tunes and Chill you got my subscription for being brave enough to cry in front of other men, thank you so much for being someone to share the profundity of existence with.

@ there’s a lot of unbelievable talent delivering your couches and deodorant, 47% of working age males in North America identify as a driver of some sort. We can access ANYTHING we desire at a truck stop, except an appointment with a therapist. Let that sink in, nearly half the working men in this country are isolated in high pressure jobs that are sedentary with nearly no access to healthy food. We are the ghosts that keep the living alive

This one really hits me. A few weeks after Ren dropped this,my 30 year old daughter attempted to jump from a suapension bridge over the Delaware River. In the cop car on the way to stop her,the lines
    "I think about that sometimes
Whay it felt like to look down and see tranquility
One sudden movement in a world of possibility
Only one movement to expose our fragility......."
I got to her in time, she got the help she needed, and is living her best life now❤

The guilt, the second guessing, the hurt you bury and pretend isn't there. Sometimes you just need to get it out. One of my friends lost her 18 year old son this way. This came out about 6 months later so I forwarded it to her. She called in tears saying it was the first time she felt someone understood. Having someone understand your deepest grief is a powerful thing.

Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable reaction with us - I think that even these painful songs can feel good, because it's comforting to know that someone else really understands how we're feeling. I'm glad that the world is moving towards a space where we can share our painful thoughts and emotions more openly, but we still have a long way to go. When this song came out, Ren posted a comment: "Is it just me that thinks it's weird that you're allowed to have a song called MURDERER without censorship issues but call suicide and it gets flagged???? As a social experiment my next song will be called Genocidal Pimp Shagger Dildo Legs Mcgee" .... I wish he would've followed up on that last part! 😉

Then, play one of the following: "What You Want," "Uninvited," "Power," "Ocean," "Murderer," "Losing It" or any of the Love Music series. Ren's raps are typically straight-up-fun (e.g. "Down on the Beat") or songs that sound like great fun, but have lyrics that could be interpreted with deeper meaning (e.g. "Illest of Our Time").

I'm so very sorry for those you lost. There's no time limit on grief, and it's not a linear process, as I'm sure you know. Sending a big hug from across the pond. I watched a therapist react to this a while ago (she's a renegade), she lost someone who took their life as well. One thing she said that stuck with me was the way Ren repeated the word so many times in the song to a slightly upbeat melody. Not cheery by any means, but not dark or melancholy. She said that this was so important because the stigma behind the word blocks conversations and education that we need. It's a word that we feel we shouldn't say, which leads to bottled up emotions. If we can educate ourselves and others to recognize warning signs, have conversations about it, and spread awareness and resources to help, then there's hope that it could save a life. As you said, it's especially difficult for men to discuss it and let their vulnerability show. Your reaction was heartbreaking but beautiful. Let's keep it upbeat for the next few reactions, though. You deserve it.

Ive not had to personally deal with anything having to do with self deletion, so i can only imagine how much harder this is for those that have. One of the most interesting things about this song is that the ending sequence wasn't originally part of the song. He was done recording. The video was done. He was about to release it, and then he had a podcast conversation with a reactor like you, named Knox Hill. They talked a lot about Ren's friend, and Ren went back and added that ending part, delaying the release. He and Knox have been friends ever since

He speaks to all of us. And he speaks to those who are no longer with us. This is the third song about Joe and Ren followed it with “ For Joe” , which begins where this leaves off. It is gut wrenching. And you are absolutely spot on about how men have been conditioned to shove their emotions down, deep inside of themselves. That being said, I have lost track of how many men have found their “ emotional “ voice through Ren. His authenticity and willingness to lay himself bare ,time and time again, opens the pathway to healing. There will always be scars, some more painful than others❤

I think music is Ren's therapy tbh and so his music is like a processing of feelings, both good and bad. Which makes it incredibly relatable for many.
I love that you make yourself so vulnerable in these reactions... I know it can be challenging but just want to make sure you know it's profoundly appreciated and rest assured you are safe to do so in Ren's community. They are a huge group of incredibly empathetic individuals who all just want to experience positive connections with others via music.

The contrast in this piece between walking around your life with it in the back of your mind - then the impact of it actually hitting your loved ones.
Seems to me like something that only a person who has gone through it can artistically express. Ren nailed it with this one.

Thank you so much for such a honest and vulnerable reaction. When I first saw this video it gutted me and affected me in this best way. I was affected by suicide at a very young which then ended up effecting me my whole childhood because the people he left behind couldn’t come with terms with his death and wouldn’t get help. Ren opens doors that a lot of people won’t and he helps heal the world. Thanks again for an amazing reaction. One of his more up beat ones and is one of my favourites is Power. He talks about heavy subjects but it’s done in a positive way with a great beat. Much love from Canada.

Well, you're definitely hitting all the hard hitting, deep, thought provoking ones. Suggest you take a pause and listen to some others ones of Ren...more fun...upbeat. for example, I shot the sheriff. The live version where he's busking with his band Big Push. Its the one Ren is wearing the red suspenders.

The world also needs more people like you, men willing to openly express their emotions and be vulnerable. There's very much a reason why men who attempt are so much more likely to use deadlier methods and "complete" (I hate that word for it but idk if there's really a better one). I haven't lost anyone to suic*de, but I've almost lost myself, and people find it concerning that I listen to songs like this when I'm feeling that way, but it's bc it brings the feeling out instead of keeping it trapped inside my brain. And this song in particular, with that gut-wrenching ending showing what it feels like to love someone who leaves that way, is one of the best things I've found to combat ideation. The pain that person felt doesn't disappear, it just becomes magnified and spread out among the people who cared about them. The idea that there *is* no one who cares about you is one of the most insidious lies depression tells you, and songs/stories like this give you some ammo to convince yourself to hold on for just one more day, over and over again. I sob every time I watch a reaction to this, and I'm sure many others do too, so you weren't crying alone. ❤

'I miss myself' - says it all really for the ones left behind. A major reason we carry a pain inside that is hard to talk about is that we struggle to find the words. A great poet or artist helps provide the words - or at least a starting point. Ren does this. In my 64 yrs walking on this earth only a few artists come this close to an expression of depth of things not only unspeakable but for many unthinkable. Ren is Ren - and in the words of Bob Dylan 'So easy to look at, so hard to define' - I can only look at and listen to an artist like Ren with admiration and gratitude - would never try to define or confine such a spirit into a category or pigeon hole. I love your reactions as you 'experience' the whole piece and its impact - not just the words. the visuals, the music, the production, the symbolic communication etc but the totality. You get the power of the whole thing. Keep doing it that way - personally I find it more respectful. One theme I have picked up from Ren's work is the important message to remember you are amazing. I echo that - and thank you for being amazing. There are some very fun pieces by Ren (funny in a deliberately juvenile sense) - I know you will enjoy them.

There are so many Ren songs I’d love to hear you react to. I enjoy your reactions because I can relate well. Another hard one that is related to this song is “How To Be Me” live with Chinchilla. There are some other faster songs such as Sick Boi and Seven Sins. Upbeat would be something like Losing It. Angry would be Kujo Beat Down, but if you watch that, first watch his 35 minute video about what happened between he and Kujo so you understand the song’s context. There’s even more. You also can try jumping on the Chinchilla rabbit hole and watch Little Girl Gone, Fingers (live), and 1:5 (live).

Sending you the biggest hug, Kev. This one is so painful to all of us who have lost anyone or been lost. But the conversations this song helps open up, and the vulnerability people like you show while discussing the impact, will keep people here. The legacy of Ren's friendship with Joe Hughes will be that people who wanted to leave will stay and still help. Thank you for being part of that by showing it's okay to be emotional. ❤
You definitely need to do The Big Push. So, so positive. Brilliant energy and the perfect antidote to the heavier things.

Ren is doing something very special and important with his art. He is voicing things we don’t talk about enough. He even made the chorus so catchy that it can get us singing along.
The first part of the song is about Ren’s own suicidal ideation. But after losing his best friend Joe, he just couldn’t put his loved ones through that. Instead he had times of wishing that the illness would end his pain for him. Luckily it didn’t, cause the world needs Ren.
The second part of the song was written much later after talking about Joe in the first interview with Knox Hill. One day it just started pouring out. It is so raw because he recorded it bit by bit as he wrote it, before he could really process any of it. The added ending really completes the song. And makes it absolutely heartbreaking.
Not sure I have come across any other artist who shares their unfiltered emotions and tears quite like this. We feel it so deeply because he feels it. Not only that but Ren is showing us all that it is okay to be vulnerable 🖤
Anyway please please please check out Freckled Angels BEFORE For Joe! It makes it even more special 🖤

You're not alone in this space man. Never has sharing emotions been more relevant than in today's world. The first time I saw this song I was digging along until the second part hit me like a truck and I broke down sobbing. In high school we were three guys who did everything together. Then suddenly I would come to school and my friend was no longer there. One of us was forever gone. It not just "tough", it is devastating.
Any guy reading this, you *need* to vent, and vent and vent and vent, until the steam is out of you, until you no longer feel it boiling. It might not every go away, but you can, and must, manage the churning, seething pain. Talk to someone. Anyone. Listen to music that express what you can't, then talk about the music. You can do this.

This one's definitely theraputic - I've listened to it so many times but it still hits so powerfully every time. "For Joe" is a beautiful follow-on track which picks up with the second part of this and evolves into a tribute to his friend Joe with a more positive and optimistic ending. It's also emotional but very beautiful. Filmed at night on a hillside overlooking the lights of the city of Calgary in Canada whilst Ren was undergoing treatment there.
Thank you for your open honesty and emotional expression 💪. A lot of American reactors really struggle with openly expressing how they feel on TH-cam for cultural reasons, it's something UK is streets ahead in terms of changing that. Suppressing and hiding emotion is undoubtedly a contributing factor to male su!cide rates and change is definitely needed more widely.

A highly recommended complement to "Suic!de" is the song "For Joe". It's a live take which starts out the way the "Suic!de" ends and then goes on to show how gratitude and a different perspective can be found with ( what I believe may be) the passing of a bit of time. It's brilliant and beautiful and I know you'll love it! Thank you for sharing your journey with all of us!

His work provokes honest communication about the subject matters that don't get talked about and if you haven't tried to end it all you know someone that has. The fact that the untold stories of this is the true injustice.

Hey dude, a close friend sent me the link to Hi Ren back in July. Like you, I'd never heard of him before. After Hi Ren, I dove in deeper and two playlists later I can officially say that this guy is my favourite all time artist. I've had many favourite artists over the years and have always gravitated towards more emotionally connected music, but I've never heard someone like Ren. He's one of a kind and that's an understatement. I've gone through many Ren Reactors since July. Thank you for not being afraid to be vulnerable with your emotions. As soon as I saw you shed a tear over Hi Ren, I knew I wanted to see more of your reactions to Ren. I then watched your Tales reaction, followed by Suicide. I've shed many tears to this song since first hearing it. The piano portion towards the end is extremely powerful. I'll be watching your reaction to the Money Game trilogy next. I could recommend almost his entire catelogue for you to react to as he's just that amazing. Based on what you shared re: this song, I'd recommend reacting to or at least listening to Freckled Angels from his album by the same name. It's a tribute to the same friend he's referencing in this song. Thanks again, dude. Sub x2
