I'm the trail maintainer on the AT by Sam Moore Shelter in the Rollercoaster. Always good to listen to your body. Many thru-hikers tell me a day or two of rest and going easy is better than pushing it and making it worse. Good luck! Hike On!
You'll be alright, slow down, take each day as it comes, "embrace the suck" as we always say. The sun will shine, the flowers will bloom, the foot will heal.
Sass just looking back on some other your easiest vlog post and you had the same sense of humor and positive attitude as you do now near the completion of your AT Thru Hike. And respectfully you are so cute in your earlier rain gear. You are so interesting. ❤😊
This is Lampshade. Our merry group of 8 Atlanta mid-lifers came across you on trail during the first 100 miles in North Carolina and at The Grove Hostel in Franklin. We will be cheering for you. I have hiked the first 2000 miles and have done the first 1000 miles multiple times so let me know if you have any questions.
I went SOBO out of Unicoi Gap on Monday for about 1.5. It was a hard hike, I’m out of shape and had about 20 pounds on my back. Recovering from covid. You will be fine, take the time you need.
Rest and recover. It is a good idea to carry a few extra packets of oatmeal and Carnation Essentials so that you have something to eat if you get stuck on trail. An on trail ZERO can be very restful. All you need is the food and stove fuel. I hope that your gear and clothing are treated with Permethin. Hikers ahead of you are pulling ticks off. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
I usually get pain in my ankles every early spring as I get back on uneven trails. I start with very low pack weight and work up the miles - then add weight in steps while also managing the miles so that I don't over do it. I do get some pain as I push the weight but it usually disappears in two to three weeks. If you are starting your thru hike soon, you should keep the miles low until your body adapts. It is too easy to push too hard and then have to take long zeros - or worse. Have a GREAT hike !
Just found your channel and see where you are from ohio! Take care of yourself! Rooting for you. The mountains will always be there, so take your time to heal. O.H.I.O.
Take your time and recover. You can make it up later once you're stronger. Grab a 16oz water bottle and try to freeze it, or fill it with cold water on the trail and spend some time rolling your foot back and forth over it. And also take time to stretch your foot and legs. We're pulling for you.
Recovery time is key - the deficit builds up day after day if you extend too far. You’ll reach a balance point soon and then be able to extend from there. You’re doing great!
Yes…wise…listen to the body. Many do 8-10 miles a day for the first several weeks, allowing time to build muscle…trail legs and ankles…as you may know ( just a reminder)🙂🙏
Enjoying your start to an epic journey- please do whatever it takes to be your best self and stretch, massage, rest, pace yourself, do yoga hydrate and keep us posted. Thanks for what you’re doing 🏃♀️🌿🧘🏼🙏
When I hiked the the trail many years ago I never wanted to stay in the shelters. I found them overcrowded, and loud, with sleeping hard to accomplish. I preferred to pitch my tent in a secure, secluded area. Take your time and hike your own hike.
In the 90' every day we took vitamin I for " Ibuprofen". (take it after breakfast to protect your stomach) You've got a good attitude and without injuries, you will probably make it. Rest and see if the foot pain goes away tomorrow. I had foot pain and it was the shoes...tried orthodontics, they helped a little but Concentrated Cherry juice got me through Maine. It was Gout. (uric acid build up from too much protein), Rest and drugs will help and take it easy for a couple of days. Good luck and keep up the good attitude,
Rest up and let that foot catch a break. It's hard to force yourself to do smaller miles when you first start, the excitement of it all just makes us want to take off and do big miles.
There are so many great hostels in GA it’s hard not to want to stay in all of them…esp when the weather is so sucky and something is hurting. Loving your channel. Best of luck….you’re doing the hard things! YAY, YOU! 🎉

Youre doing great! I’ll send you audio of my book “Only When I Step On It” for inspiration. Just LMK how to get you the code so its free on Audible for you. I hiked the AT to heal my nerve damaged leg
Just a heads up. I wouldn’t hang your Garmin off of that Durston tag. It’s not really meant to support anything. I think it’s more of like a guide if you want to use something goofy like a hydration bladder, or something. I could be completely wrong, but I would not trust that. I’d use the proper webbing that it overlaps. #manexplain
I didn’t leave the AT! “Bailing off trail” is a common phrase for having to leave trail for a couple nights - commonly due to weather or injury. Still here :)

Thanks for maintaining the trail! Looking forward to the rollercoaster :) appreciate your comment!!

Great call on extra food! Everything is permethrin treated :) thanks for the comment
Rest up and recover! We're rooting for you
Take advantage of cold water crossings and stop to soak your feet. It’ll help with the swelling and the rest will help too. Good luck!

Keeping it real! Appreciate the vlog. You're figuring it out. 🥾🥾 north!
Piece cake or stay in rain easy choice. Best of luck with foot. Just take you time. Hike your hike.

The map isn't accurate at Addis Gap. It's a long walk down to the water.

I’ve been switching back and forth! Not packing up a wet tent is pretty nice
Glad you are getting a day off trail. Hope your foot feels better. Excelsior!
Good information, thanks! I'm starting March 1, 2025.

Don’t quit on a hard or bad day you can do this rest, take a nap, go have a fun day cry if you must and heal and try again ❤️🥰

I thruhiked in 2019. Was hard but worth every mile
Safety come first 😅, nice video with no views, 😢, so let's keep on hiking 😊
Hey Jess, just found your channel. How much weight are you carrying?
25 lbs with 2 days food as of neel gap!
Hell yeah brother
It is your HIKE so hike your hike. Not everyone else.
Go home, get better, flip and meet me in Harper’s Ferry!
Back on trail :)
Take it easy and listen to your body. Little things can become big things on trail. We have plenty of time still.
Great videos.

Aww dam dont bail . 😕 bummer
Oh no!!! I've never wished for click bait so much.
Okay, you got me sucked in! Love me a good tease click bait. Take care of that footsie then go blow that trail up. 🤘🤘
Agreed. Bail means permanent and she's still out there.
She's just an attention seeker just like 98% of everyone that goes out.

No sence in geting hurt this early in your adventure. Rest up the trail isnt going anywhere.
Looks like you stole the guy's hat that gave you the bracelet
Hopefully this is click bait but if you did leave the AT, there's nothing wrong with doing what's best for yourself.

Sounds like a good rest is in order! Are you having issues with your shoes or weight on your back? At any rate glad you are going to rest!

Good good good to take some time off. May you keep taking good care -
Wrong it's not a marathon or a race do you know what a marathon is?. It's a long distance foot race.!
