I went to Luray caverns a couple years ago while camping and hiking in Shenandoah national park and was blown away. It was so much better than I was expecting. Glad you were able to go.

Try not doing big miles for a few days even with a couple of zero days. Many hikers come off trail due to their feet. Be wise and careful.

How do you know where/when shuttles are, and how do you know where to get off the trail that could be a good spot to be picked up?

I thought there was a rule in the AT hikers guide that said it was mandatory to get a blackberry shake when doing that part of the trail, it's how you keep the VA blues down. Glad you took the time to do Luray.

That was a Ruffed Grouse. I imagine that it was so used to hikers and there is probably no hunting in that area. Once while canoeing in Canada, we had 4 Spruce Grouse walk through camp BETWEEN us and the fire 4' away. They eat spruce needles and taste horrible. As a result, they have no natural predators and just go wherever they want to.

Caverns were cool. I went to one that I think is a bit south of the trail in PA called Crystal Cave, much smaller but pretty cool nonetheless.

Hey, I'm glad you're enjoying Shenandoah. I just wanted to point out that there are so many hiking trails in the park, and most of them are not hiking next to the Drive. They tend to start at Skyline Drive but then go up or down away from the Drive. I just didn't want anyone to think that all hiking trails in the park are within a stone's throw from the road. Thank you for your videos and I hope you can somehow not let the heat and bugs and rain get to you. Frankly, I don't know how you thru hikers do it!

I've often base-camped at Loft Mountain campground & day hiked the local AT & park trails. It was nice to recognize the overlooks & stealth campsites. Have a good hike!

Don't underestimate a grouse...you might get up close to one thinking that you're ok...but they'll get you when you least expect it lol

Deer in the are used to seeing people, so they are no afraid. Love the fact only 250 yards from skyline drive. You will enjoy your hike in the Shens.
