As a neutral that was one of the best recent finals I've watched from super league, good free flowing rugby. Let's hope the grand final is as good and not boring.
on wigans side, I say wigan played terrible, they couldn't control the ball half the time, the ref was worse though, blind as hell and didn't notice a player injured for atleast 30 seconds, wigan pulled through ontop though ❤️🤍
My uncle used to play for Wigan his picture slngs there in the shopping centre at the top where the casino used to be. I live in Germany and haven't been home since this pandemic. When I lived in Wigan I also knew Andy Gregory
I love the challenge cup, so many sports have over saturated themselves in the pursuit of more money and traditional cup competitions have suffered. in league the challenge cup still feels like a proper unique cup competition
I agree. The challenge cup has been devalued since the start of super league. Also more rounds have to be won to win the challenge cup. None of this week off nonsense for the top two clubs. bring back the top six play off for the premiership and the champions title for the team finishing top. This would also do away with teams fielding reserve sides , when they are safely in the top six. Spectators don't want to pay good money to see their team hammer a team of reserves, they deserve to see the best of the opposition team.
I was there. Class day. Horrible travelling down there & back on the coach, over 5 hours to get back, brilliant stadium but glad it's back at wembley from next year
As a neutral, this was a classic, enthralling Challenge Cup final. Immense skill, high impact collisions, individual/team endeavour and a dramatic finish. It’s still THE biggest game in RL and that includes Grand Finals or State of Origin. It ranks alongside Wimbledon, Six Nations, the Champions League final and the Super Bowl. When Catalans won the final, they played at Barcelona FC the following year. The best weekend of my life. 🏉
As a Wigan fan, I agree & feel sorry for your great team but obviously happy we won. Your team has come on leaps with Watson & you will bring back some silverware soon enough. Both teams did cook up a game to remember m8 👍🏼
The best team did lose , last tackle and 3 mins to go hudds should have won this game , lack of concentration in defence cost us , big gap in that corner cost us
Great game. Wigan were sloppy made errors after error but the class of some of there players came through. Harry Smith is going to be a great player. He kicks goals, has vision, good ball kicker also has speed to get a few tries. He is still only 22. Huddersfield were good for 75 minutes of the game. All Wigan needed was 5 minutes to win the game.
Great final and great atmosphere and great stadium 🏟 🏉 definitely should look at either taking it to Spurs Stadium permanently or even going on the road or alternating with Wembley … feel like Spurs Stadium is right size stadium for the Challenge Cup right now 50,000 to 60,000 - we need to get the mainstream appeal back for the CC Final - it was always guaranteed 70,000 plus I don’t get what’s happened last 5 or 6 years - sad to see but great to see such an uplifting stadium and atmosphere! Let’s take it to Spurs more regular ! Amazing stadium - right size for CC right now until we build it back up again as a sport. If CC is gonna be getting around 50,000 now maybe even consider like an Etihad as well, holds 50,000 would be great atmosphere there too. Just a shame we struggle to get anywhere near 60,000 now for our prestige CC Final - so many amazing memories from childhood and adulthood going to so many finals.
No, it should be Wembley. Let's stop messing around with tradition. If Wembley isn't gonna host the final anymore then there's no need to go down south for the final. Have it at Old Trafford. But Wembley is the place for the Challenge Cup Final, always was, always is. Not taking any differing opinion seriously.
@@JamieAsh_ The tradition died when they built the soulless bowl that is the New Wembley. It's not the same as it was with the old terraced Wembley which actually had an atmosphere even if it wasn't sold out. We need the Final to be an event again and not feel like a snooze fest with bad atmosphere. I love the memories of Wembley but it's time to move on past the nostalgia.
A close game, not decided till last few minutes, but short of real quality imo. This was a chance missed by Huddersfield. I like Watson, so I hope they can still push for honours. A well coached team but maybe too conservative towards the end??
As a neutral prefer English game to Australian game, as to many TV reviews in Australia. At least in UK it's the refs call. Better commentators than biased ones in Australia.
Agreed, here's the voting from the news reporters for the Lance Todd Chris McQueen, 14 Ricky Leutele, 9 Oliver Russell, 6 Tui Lolohea, 5 Jermaine McGillvary, 2 Harry Smith, 2 Daniel Levi, 1 How the hell McQueen has 14 votes is beyond me. He had a good game but no different at all to John Bateman and Morgan Smithies. Smithies was the best forward on the pitch but the two high tackles cost him any votes. Harry Smith getting only two votes is lunacy, he was the difference between the two teams. Scores one try, sets up the winning try and sends a pass cutting out three Hudds players to help send French away for Jai Fields try. Kicks most of his goals and tracks back to clear up a certain Hudds try. Lance Todd winner all the way, without his contribution Wigan lose the final.
@@pinkfloydmayweather861 @Adam Morton I think he did get judged on that knock on which is pretty woeful if that's the reasoning behind two votes. Lolohea missed his conversions which really did affect the outcome of the match, yet he still attracted more votes than Smith. But reading some of rubbish written by people such as Aaron Bower in The Guardian (no I don't buy it unless there's no Andrex), they were in awe of McQueen and the rest of the Huddersfield players. Hence the votes given to the Huddersfield team. Seems there was a clear bias from press who always like the underdog, but it made no difference, as players and fans alike say they'd much rather win the silverware than the man of the match award. Robbie Paul against Saints being the perfect example.
Really enjoyed both games hope Leigh get back super League only criticism of the main game I thought the same Wigan player should have got a minimum yellow on a few occasions and BBC team biast toward Wigan had about 80% of chat coverage mostly about field but great game giants unlucky missed kicks costly

Chris McQueen, 14 Ricky Leutele, 9 Oliver Russell, 6 Tui Lolohea, 5 Jermaine McGillvary, 2 Harry Smith, 2 Daniel Levi, 1 Yup, Harry Smith only receives two votes for scoring a try, setting up the match winning try, helps to send French away for Fields try, and kicks most of his goals. I must've watched a different game.
@@Samwwrl Huddersfield should of been 3 scores ahead at half time. They lost because they kept wasting opportunities by turning the ball over on the 5th instead of putting a grubber into the in goal. Wigan were very poor but took the few chances they got. I thought the game was a very low standard of rugby from both teams.
It's all well and good to say giants were the better team, and there certainly is a case to be made for that. But I do believe if they really were better than wigan they would have been better able to capitalise on wigan errors in the first half. I do believe that if hudderfield made those errors then wigan would have better converted them into points. Wigan defence was impeccable, defending the line very well. Wigan also able to score more pints with far less field position, possession and with far fewer opportunities. Wigan kicked better. Of course the other side to the coin is that wigan dropping the ball and fumbling is really really poor. Certainly if we were playing St Helens that would have cost us the game, but huddersfield didn't manage to convert those errors into points!
