    I am an American with a standard scout, being 5'8" tall, I got an after market seat and it changed the feel completely. my biggest gripe with the scout is the lack of cruise control and range. I'm not touring with it but I have had to take it on 200+mi trips. Holding my wrist back is not fun, much less having to stop for gas. I'm probably going to get a Chief then mod it to fit me like I did with my scout.

    As a previous owner of a scout (not bobber - don't need an even shorter suspension) and current springfield owner, here's my 2 cents: scout: great performance, low seat, muuuch lighter than the other 2, liquid cooled engine - hard suspension for passenger. New chief: lighter and more modern than other cruiser/baggers, but has limited luggage/seat options. Springfield: can use touring seat from roadmaster, and even matching hard trunk. Lacks navigation, but something I can live without. Wife won't give up that touring seat ever.

    At 5'8 I'd go for the the Bobber Chief but it depends what you want the bike to do. Also a fairing and a top box for stowing my helmet and shopping as I have with my current bike.

    Very thorough and well done comparison Sir. I'm 5'11" and some change. My Scout is awesome for my height after I moved the handlebars up and got mini floorboards. I'm considering another scooter so will ride both the Chief and Springfield and decide after. My Scout is a dream come true for me and still can't believe I own one, but for longer 6+ hour rides I'd like something to accommodate that. I'm guessing the Springfield, but we'll see..

    Side by side ergonomics comparison still serving after 2 years. Just chiming in from the US, I'm 5'7" (1,702 mm) with a 27" (686 mm) inseam. My Bobber 20 has the most comfortable riding position in a bike I have owned. My legs stretch out in front of me a bit, but I never feel like I am reaching. I sit upright, arms slightly downward to the handlebars, with a slight bend in my arms. I think my comfort+ seat sits a bit lower than yours, but I can flat-foot the bike. Of course I had to upgrade the shocks and the seat for comfort, but in it's current form I can ride for hours with no discomfort, and I feel fine afterword.
    I'll be headed to my Dealership this weekend for their factory demo event of the entire 2024 lineup. I've reserved a Chief Darkhorse for a test ride.
    Banger video mate!

    Okay, I see you are comparing _bobbers._ One of the obvious issues with _bobbers_ is comfort in the wee bucket seat. If you can live with that then fine, but adjusting the _Chief Bobber Dark Horse's_ bars and changing to a seat with more options would maximize your comfort needs. I like the _Scout_ a lot, but tire, range, brake feel and other iffy issues would make my first choice the _Chief._

    I have a little trouble believing that the scout has some of the best ergonomics for taller people over the bigger cruisers. I've sat on all of them and I don't really feel as if that could be the case. I'm 5'8, and the bigger bikes were roomier than the littler ones. Still, I think you do a good job trying to work everything out for the viewers. You do add empirical numbers for us hard-headed USA viewers, but you didn't do that for all the measurements, I think. Indian is on the right track. I wish they kept some of the Victory models. I just bought the Highball. If Victory was still around, I would be a customer for life. I think Victorys look a bit better than the Chief. I'm going to keep my eye on Indian because I think they work hard to create the better cruiser. Well, better than HD lol. Metric cruisers have their charm.

    Practically nobody stays with the stock seat, I have a 2019 Springfield DH am 6' 2 1/2 inches tall and put in a CCrider seat and have never been more comfortable on a bike or happier with my choice. There are many seats out there for tall riders to have maximum comfort on the bike they choose so I really think it is a non- issue, What is an issue is an inexperienced rider being on a bike they cannot handle due to the bikes size or weight and understanding the performance factors under weight such as braking and maneuvering out of danger. Sad to say anyone can ride a motorcycle in a straight line but if you do not develop and learn riding skills you are exposed for the worst in life to come your way. I was lucky enough to learn from the best , Motor pool cops and my attitude is always I still no nothing. I love Indian videos keep them coming thank you and hope this helps

    Very informative video, thank you! I’m almost 6ft, but with some riding boots I’d probably be closer to 6’1. I’m looking to get my first bike and I love the bobber style. I’m very interested in the scout bobber and would love to hear your recommendations for a first bike. I’ll most likely get a small cheap motorcycle to practice on but would quickly move on to something bigger and more powerful. Do you think the Scout bobber would be a good option for me or would you recommend I look at something else?

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and you're welcome! The topic of beginner bike recommendations is a bit tricky as we all come to motorcycles with varying levels of past experience. If your new to riding motorcycles I wouldn't recommend you go straight onto a Scout Bobber. I would recommend you start with a bike you feel would be very easy to ride. I have seen first hand where someone has picked a bike that was too challenging to ride and they end up giving up riding motorcycles altogether. Depending on your budget, the Honda Rebel 500 would be a great place to start if you prefer cruisers. Find something easy to ride, get really comfortable with your riding skills, then upgrade to something like the Scout Bobber. Hope that helps!

      I might do a quick video on mid vs forward controls for the new Chief including the full height range of test dummies. 5'3, 5'6, 5'9, 6'1 and 6'4 👍

  • @Carreidas
    @Carreidas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It annoys me that the power output isn't published. Probably because the chief puts out 80 bhp which is less than the scout. I am not saying a cruiser like the chief should have sportbike like power output but I do expect a bike costing approx £16k to have extra to use when necessary.

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree they should publish horsepower figures regardless whether they're favourable or not. Nobody's expecting air cooled engines to produce more horsepower than liquid cooled engines, we get how it works.

    It’s so weird seeing an American bike with an updated modern engine on the lower end but the bigger bikes still use antiquated air cooled motors.

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hear what your saying but it works. Although the 116 is air/oil cooled, after riding both it loses nothing in appeal to the Scout's liquid cooled engine. Both engines impressed me immensely they just go about their business in different ways.

    I am 5’8” and was wondering if there would be much difference between the chief dark horse compared to the dark horse bobber.m considering the dark horse doesn’t have hangers like the dark horse bobber.

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Apart from the handlebars, another key difference is mid vs forward controls. The Chief Dark Horse has mid controls and the Dark horse Bobber has forwards. I've covered ergonomics for both these bikes in my 'Do I Fit Series videos'... You can watch them here. Back in the 90's I purchased a Suzuki Intruder 1400. What I found was a seat that was way too low. I had a custom upholstery shop add about two inches of seat foam to the seat. It made an uncomfortable bike into a bike I could ride all day. Sadly all these bike manufactures have fallen into the Harley "low rider" syndrome, thinking that low seat make for a cool bike....when in reality it makes for a poorly shaped rider ergonomic profile. Manufactures have to do better in terms of comfort, ride-ability, and functionality. Enough of these low seat heights.

    I’m coming from having a MT07. Do you think the new 2022 chief is too much power?

    • @BikesILike
      @BikesILike  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all. The main difference you'll find is the amount of torque. The good thing about the MT-07 is it's torquey engine so the Chief will feel similar in the way it develops its power and accelerates, it'll just feel a lot stronger. The extra weight will be something you'll need to take some extra care with initially but you will get used to that. If you do buy one just take your time and ease into it. Start of in the lowest power modes and gradually step up through the modes as your confidence increases. 👍

  • @DarkHorseParatrooper

    This is 100% inaccurate, each individual would have to try it themselves.I'm 5'7" I ride a Indian Roadmaster currently. I've ridden the Springfield a few times,as I know someone who owns one. I've ridden the entire lineup actually. In fact, they use the exact same chassis on all the big bikes as far as I've been told by their mechanics and reps, so there no real difference except styling and features, save for the new challenger. None of them are uncomfortable for me except the scout, while on the freeway I felt like I was sliding off backwards.

    Just to throw you something to think about. Bodies aren't proportional. Some tall people are all body. If you're gonna have height model, please add their leg inseam; for example, women generally have longer legs in relation to their torso than men do.
    And just for shits and giggles, you can throw in some gender saddles. You can always tell a woman is riding a bike by the way their ass sits, because their hips are wider. Bikes are generally built for men, and I've noticed the banana seat to be remarkably standard across a wide selection of bikes; is this because guys find it the most comfortable, or simply because they plan to have a passenger? I don't know why anyone would have a passenger on a dirt bike though.

    For a suggestion, you need to know inseam leg length, arm length and torso length. 6 foot isnt the same for everyone.
