I liked Godzilla as a kid but my son absolutely loves everything Godzilla. I feel bad for him because most kids these days know next to nothing about Godzilla. He's going to be so happy when I show this to him.
Being a model maker I love Godzilla but I can truly appreciate the work that goes into the miniature cities and monsters. I find it all fascinating. I saw all the monster movies I could as a kid in the early 60s.At my age my wife shakes her head when I watch a monster movie.👍😁
Regarding the future of Japanese kaiju flicks, the early reviews for the Attack on Titan movie have me VERY excited. People say it's treated like a horror movie the way it is shot, and I personally cannot wait for that creative team to start working on Godzilla. I am so excited for 2016.
Saw this at G-FEST last year with Kyle in attendance premiering it and it was such an incredible film to watch. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to attend G-FEST again this year!
Congrats... your interview segment with Akira Takarada and company has completely outshined 15 years of "Special Features" provided on DVD/BluRay Home releases! Great work all around though!!!
I began watching Godzilla movies with my brother and Grandad when I was 6. Back then my grandad would record showings on the sci fi channel and show us the them on vhs before school. Since then me and my younger sibling have grown up with Godzilla. Buying the films and importing the merch. We had the privilege to go see 2014 in cinemas with our Grandad too which was a special experience. Though we wont get to watch them with him again I am looking forward to the future of the Big G and would like to say a massive thank you to all the people who worked on the Godzilla movies past, present and future. May his legacy be long as he is tall! And thank you for the joy this giant has brought to my family! :'D
You're doing God(zilla)'s work my friend, I was first introduced to monster because my mom loves King Kong. I was terrified but amazed by the genre since then, it wasn't until Middle School that I fell in love with Kaiju in general, especially Godzilla. This was an emotional trip thanks so much for the hard work put into this! Bless you!!
This will forever be one of my favorite Godzilla documentaries. Every-time I watch this, I just want to go to Japan, make video, movies hell all of it at once! Great job on this man!! Always wroth sitting down and watching, every-time!!
When I was a kid back in Detroit, they would show 'monster week' on WXYZ TV. I would always rush home to catch every last one of them, that was my introduction to Godzilla. Now that I'm a grown man of 54 years, I'm happy to say I've collected just about every movie that he's done from the original one way back in 1954 to the last one that was done called "Godzilla king of the monsters", the one that was done by Warner Brothers. The only difference now is that when I was a kid it was my mother who told me that all of these movies are nothing but junk and I should stop watching them and grow up. Now it's my wife who sits down next to me along my daughter who has her two sons. Thats three generations of Godzilla being enjoyed. My mom still thinks I need to grow up and get rid of these movies but when I go to be with the Lord they'll be bequeathed to my grandsons along with my Ultraman collection and Johnny Sokko and it's flying robot. I know that in comparison to the modern special effects and technology being used in the development of films and TV series these old movies look like junk. But it's the same as buying a diamond ring when you purchase it you're not just purchasing the item you're purchasing a piece of time and for me this was a time of my innocence when the only type of violence that I could truly endure, (as well as enjoy), was a giant monster coming out of the water and stomping a major city in Japan absolutely flat or leaving it a totally ablaze. YOU GO KING! In my youth I often heard my mother say the only things that have been consistent are death and taxes, now that I'm at the age that she was at when I was watching these movies I have to include one more yes they will always be death and taxes but for anybody that has an imagination you have to include the king. I don't mean Elvis Presley, I don't mean Michael Jackson. Because for me he was truly the biggest movie star of the mall if you haven't imagination you can't help but include Godzilla.
ill never forget my grandma showing me this for the first time. it was godzilla vs ibriah. then my personal favorite. godzilla vs mechagodzilla with king ceasar. fond memories. monster zero and gozillas version of dabbing on planet x...priceless.
I was so honored to end the final day of my very first G-Fest with this wonderful documentary! My parents didn't really understand "why" Godzilla was my thing, thanks to you they completely understand! I have watched this at least 3 times!
I was blown away and moved by this documentary, it completely blew me out of the water. So much care, love, and tenderness was packed into it and I was even nearly moved to tears at some parts. I applaud you for what you have done for the community and bridging the gaps between two countries, phenomenal work.
AMAZING!!!!! I'm so happy I put down money for this!!! I saw my name in the Maser Tank section of the credits!!! Thank you Kyle!! Thank you for the photo book, thank you for adding me in the credits, thank you making this amazing documentary, and thank you for being a Godzilla fan like me!!
Legit one of the best documentaries I've ever watched. All of the interviews you managed to get not only intrigued me, but it shook the Godzilla fan in me to my core with utter, childish joy. Consider me a subscriber!
Stumbled across this while watching random Godzilla vids with my 12 yr old boy who is obsessed and brought back my obsession. Great doc. New subscriber here!
Hail to the yeahhh. Thank you all for your hard work on this long awaited Godzilla documentary! and Kyle Yount, You can definitely call yourself the- MAN.. also thank you to all the backers aka TheTrue Kiaju Fans around the world. Mr & Mrs Legend.
i fucking LOVED deep sea monster raigo! it was awesome! i grew up with godzilla ever since i was 6y/o its been with me for a long time, i was the kid that walked around growling and pretending to swat buildings over and scorch tanks everyday travelling to a comic shop every year to find out which godzilla figures they had. its a wonderful series, i always felt godzilla was a representation of mankind, sometimes filled with hatred and malice but other times, kind even heroic (not intentionally of course) hes a personification of our struggle to grow learn and move forward, no matter how big our adversary is. G FAN TILL THE DAY I DIE!
This was incredible to watch. Watching the interviews with Akira Takarada and the others from Toho's past I admit got me a bit teary eyed. This was a wonderful tribute to Godzilla and Tokusatsu as a whole.
This is an immense pleasure to watch on a Saturday afternoon. You presentation with the cast members, and craftsmen, and craftswoman, was refreshing, no stupid questions, no dirt digging, just pure to the love the craft and the culture of the kaiju films. Excellent work.
Amazing documentary. Great to see the "Resurgence" of interest in kaiju among the younger generation in the film. I am curious about how much of an impact Shin Godzilla is/will have both in Japan and the U.S. While I hope they continue to make Godzilla and other kaiju movies, it's also good to see them take their time and not rush into things.
hello Kyle Yount My Name Is Edward Torrez From Phoenix And let Me Tell You That I'm Such A Big Godzilla fan because I love all Of the Godzilla Movie Franchise Because Godzilla Is Super Cool and Awesome :-).
It's a very wonderful entertaining documentation and i enjoyed every second of it. I don't know what else to say...i'm kind of speechless now. I really need to cool down from these almost 65 minutes in kaiju fan heaven 😊
I just found this amazing documentary tribute to The King of Monsters and I want to sincerely thank you for offering it up like this I've always been a Gojira fan and have put considerable time and effort into passing my adoration on to my two sons As they have taken to Godzilla with enthusiasm, I've come to realize that the films offer up many important lessons and historical relevance that have allowed my young boys to not only grasp the meaning of some very complex social and political issues, but to also understand the many sides involved…Godzilla has offered me the ability and opportunity to help them understand the importance of recognizing and understanding the importance of looking at complex issues that face mankind from all the perspectives involved…and that open-mindedness is a potent deterrent to conflict and of utmost importance in resolving differences… …and I get to teach them these important life lessons while we watch the biggest, baddest Kaijus tear cities and each other to hell and back!!!
Been a huge g fan for a long time since I was a kid I remember watching the movies on TNT monster vision all the time and that was my intro to the kaiju life.
To me 1954 to 2014 is all Godzilla. It doesn't matter if it's a guy in a suit or cgi if it respects and look like him, then it's Godzilla. that's my opinion. 1998 doesn't count.
Congratulations to Kyle and the Kaijucast team for making this truly insightful, creative and compassionate documentary. Each guest featured is brilliantly remarkable. The locations and sights of Tokyo are incredible. You and your team capture the essence of what it means to be a Kaiju fan. Again, Congratulations to all !!
Brilliant, erudite, awesome, simply a joy to live vicariously through you. I was in Japan back in 2007, but unfortunately didn't make it to Tokyo -- only Kyoto, Tokushima, and Naruto. I plan to go back, but you were there for during the most perfect of times. Glad I could be a part of it, in my own little way.
I'm a casual Godzilla fan at best but this was a brilliant documentary, made by true fans with a love for the genre. Well Done! *I visited Tokyo in 2008 and it was nice to see some locations again.
i really truly enjoyed this documentary. i enjoy and love all things related to godzilla. the interview with four of the original actors and actress is truly a rare event that made me quite emotional. their reverence towards gojira's legacy is most apparent. thank you so very much for coordinating such a prudent and memorable event of a lifetime. i absolutely love the dinner table's reaction at 47:19! their collective recognition and respect towards one of the films that started it all is classic. 47:38 made me geek with joy! another classic in kaiju television, with ultraman and spectreman right alongside of it. this is what it's all about.
this was awsome I to was wondering if godzilla was still alive in japan with the young kids glad to see that they still like kajiu I agree with you on they need to get back to the roots of the godzilla effects I like watching the older godzilla film's be use of the craftsmen of the miniatures all the tiny details and the great design vehicles and space ships too I would like to see a new godzilla film that takes place in the 60's so the design would have that great 60's look like the cool hover car in king kong escapes .
Really happy to have seen someone post this on Facebook. I was really happy seeing so many different people with varying backgrounds making their own Godzilla and kaiju fan works, props, costumes...it's all so fascinating to me. I believe this is the first I've come across your work, and I also share an interest in the miniatures and technical aspects of filmmaking. I invite you to check my channel out, I've got three episodes of a Godzilla miniseries called "Aftermath" all done in stop motion animation - I stand behind my video quality, and I think you'd enjoy them, especially considering your interest in practical special effects. Great documentary, it was awesome seeing all those different locations and hearing all the different perspectives, particularly in the restaurant where it was a bunch of fans exchanging their experiences. I'll be checking out your podcast as well!
greeting from the UK ,been to Toho too so awesome to stand out side it and get a photo of me and the Big G. So awesome for you to show it in the documentary. Loved your documentary too keep kaiju alive people ;)
I just stumbled across this and you have yourself a new fan. I'm a long time anime fan and a kaiju fan and recently started getting into TV tokusatsu so this was a very welcome find. These were some of the best interviews I have seen covering anything tokusatsu. To me tokusatsu is about the love of practical effects regardless of budget.
Super cool documentary! Thanks for sharing such a fun trip. I can't believe how good the OG actors look after all these years. I just saw Monster Zero last night and it was heartwarming to see the cast fifty years on. Takarada-san always impresses me.
Having just subscribed to KaijuCast via iTunes and going all the way back as far as iTunes lets me,Discovering this documentary has relit the fire that I had for Kaiju when I was a young kid ,This Documentary was amazing and great insight into Godzilla and the general Kaiju themed aspects of Japan,I would love to visit the Kaiju Bar sometime in my life,All in all this was awesome and wish and hope Kyle can make more documentaries"PLEASE!!" lol,Anyway i would like to thank Kyle for sparking the Kaiju love in me once again and now being a 32 year old I can afford such toys and Kaiju related things,Once again Thank you Kyle.
I'm listening to this documentary while writing my Captatone essay. My topic is the Importance of Kaiju films in culture and this is really helpful. Very inspiring!
This was incredible! Just started watching the old films and really appreciating the practical effects and effort the filmmakers put into them. It's fascinating, and inspiring.
+ 1 if you would hang out with those Japanese kids that kaijucast was talking, all day!!!They seem like fun, especially the Japanese girl and the one sitting next to her.
As a hardcore Godzilla fan since childhood, this documentary was absolutely awesome. Especially since I’ve never been to Japan myself personally (hoping to someday). Getting to see different shops with merchandise, interviews with some of the classics and seeing that students today can still learn it is awesome. And doing it for the 60th Anniversary is an ingenious idea. Personal I’d love to see this with other Tokuatsu, such as Ultraman, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai (all of which were mentioned in this documentary). It would’ve been cool if they had done it within the last two years with the 55th Anniversary of Ultraman, 50th Anniversary of Kamen Rider and the 45th Anniversary of Super Sentai. Overall, this man truly understands the genre just like myself. And I appreciate him for making it.
the part with the old actors made me cry
I love watching this now that Shin Godzilla is out
GREAT DOCUMENTARY!!
I'm really glad to see so many worldwide Gfans,I'm italian and I'm an hardcore fan,Hail To the King!
All hail Godzilla, King of the Monsters and his friends and foes, now and forever!
I liked Godzilla as a kid but my son absolutely loves everything Godzilla. I feel bad for him because most kids these days know next to nothing about Godzilla. He's going to be so happy when I show this to him.
Monster Zero was my first Godzilla film and apparently it was many others first Godzilla movie too.

Thanks a lot for your birthday Godzilla cast in Japan, this is the part I didn't explored in Japan.
Regarding the future of Japanese kaiju flicks, the early reviews for the Attack on Titan movie have me VERY excited. People say it's treated like a horror movie the way it is shot, and I personally cannot wait for that creative team to start working on Godzilla. I am so excited for 2016.
Anyone who has only seen the Raymond Burr version absolutely need to see the original 'Gojira.' A powerful indictment of nuclear destruction!!!
Yoshio Tsuchiya is awesome
Saw this at G-FEST last year with Kyle in attendance premiering it and it was such an incredible film to watch. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to attend G-FEST again this year!
awesome video i am a BIG Godzilla fan lov it

44:02 That is true, most Godzilla fans were fans of Dinosaurs.
me too
Nutchanon Sopadang I always wandered why that one particular dinosaur could stand on two feet and breath fire XD
Xj Productions ha ha ha ha
True. I'm a big fan of Godzilla and Jurassic Park/World, and I grew up watching dinosaur documentaries and reading dinosaur books and comics.

UNREAL!!! Great documentary and footage- it was like being there. Only complaint was that it was too short- I wanted to see more! 😃 Amazing job!!!!!

hello Kyle Yount My Name Is Edward Torrez From Phoenix And let Me Tell You That I'm Such A Big Godzilla fan because I love all Of the Godzilla Movie Franchise Because Godzilla Is Super Cool and Awesome :-).
It would be cool to see a sequel doc called 'Reign of the King' about the Godzilla resurgence that has happened since.
It's a very wonderful entertaining documentation and i enjoyed every second of it. I don't know what else to say...i'm kind of speechless now. I really need to cool down from these almost 65 minutes in kaiju fan heaven 😊
This is an excellent documentary! Every Godzilla fan should see it! I just wish that I could've seen it live at G-Fest.
Bravo Kyle ! I was especially impressed with the actor interviews and how much they respect the films they all worked on. Well Done....!
This is just wonderful - thank you!
awesome job, thanks for putting it on here for free. big thanks to whoever was in charge of sub titles, perfect size on this. great job Kyle.
I just found this amazing documentary tribute to The King of Monsters and I want to sincerely thank you for offering it up like this
I've always been a Gojira fan and have put considerable time and effort into passing my adoration on to my two sons
As they have taken to Godzilla with enthusiasm, I've come to realize that the films offer up many important lessons and historical relevance that have allowed my young boys to not only grasp the meaning of some very complex social and political issues, but to also understand the many sides involved…Godzilla has offered me the ability and opportunity to help them understand the importance of recognizing and understanding the importance of looking at complex issues that face mankind from all the perspectives involved…and that open-mindedness is a potent deterrent to conflict and of utmost importance in resolving differences…

Don't normally like or comment on videos but this was fantastic
what an excellent documentary.
You know, after G-Fest XXII, I saw Masaaki Tezuka at the Ohare International Airport while I was in Chicago.
We demand another room tour Kyle! Especially that DVD/bluray shelf!
DoctorGoji After my next trip to Tokyo, I will :)
+Kaijucast Will you release a DVD/Blu-Ray of it?
Been a huge g fan for a long time since I was a kid I remember watching the movies on TNT monster vision all the time and that was my intro to the kaiju life.
To me 1954 to 2014 is all Godzilla. It doesn't matter if it's a guy in a suit or cgi if it respects and look like him, then it's Godzilla. that's my opinion. 1998 doesn't count.
Hunter Ross I highly agree.
Hunter Ross Which suit design would you say is your favorite?
I don't know? That a hard question. it would be tie with Godzilla vs King Ghidorah suit and the Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Tokyo SOS suit.
Hunter Ross For me it's either Godzilla 2000, Godzilla 1985, or Godzilla Final Wars 2004.
Hunter Ross 😂😂
Congratulations to Kyle and the Kaijucast team for making this truly insightful, creative and compassionate documentary. Each guest featured is brilliantly remarkable. i really truly enjoyed this documentary. i enjoy and love all things related to godzilla. the interview with four of the original actors and actress is truly a rare event that made me quite emotional. their reverence towards gojira's legacy is most apparent. thank you so very much for coordinating such a prudent and memorable event of a lifetime. i absolutely love the dinner table's reaction at 47:19! their collective recognition and respect towards one of the films that started it all is classic. 47:38 made me geek with joy! another classic in kaiju television, with ultraman and spectreman right alongside of it. this is what it's all about.
this was awsome I to was wondering if godzilla was still alive in japan with the young kids glad to see that they still like kajiu
I agree with you on they need to get back to the roots of the godzilla effects I like watching the older godzilla film's be use of the craftsmen of the miniatures all the tiny details and the great design vehicles and space ships too I would like to see a new godzilla film that takes place in the 60's so the design would have that great 60's look like the cool hover car in king kong escapes .

God, I love the Mandarake complex
I just stumbled across this and you have yourself a new fan. I'm a long time anime fan and a kaiju fan and recently started getting into TV tokusatsu so this was a very welcome find. These were some of the best interviews I have seen covering anything tokusatsu. To me tokusatsu is about the love of practical effects regardless of budget.
If I lived in Japan and somebody asked me what it's like to be a kaiju collector in Japan I would respond in one word... "Easy"
Super cool documentary! Thanks for sharing such a fun trip. I can't believe how good the OG actors look after all these years. I just saw Monster Zero last night and it was heartwarming to see the cast fifty years on. Takarada-san always impresses me.
Great documentary :) well done to all involved.
What further documentaries would you reccomend for an entry-level fan?
Thank you Godzilla fan kaijucast me too

The people who disliked this video are going to hell

Kid *turns around* and the last thing he ever saw was me running at him at about 500mph
This was an awesome documentary to watch. Thank you, Kyle Yount! Appreciate the insight, and I hope to retrace your steps in Japan one day :)
