Based on true experience, i tried making this, my bowl did indeed explode, though not inside the microwave. It waited for me to take it out and then exploded. I was lucky enough to stop it in time with a plasic lid. Ended up throwing away both the plastic cover and the bowl. I dont know if the issue was that my bowl was not microwavable or the sugar or that i put it in there for too long (3mins?) Totally not worth it. My tanghulu was too sweet
I tried it top tips -have a deep Cup or bowl of ice water -have a deep bowl or for the melted sugar so it's even -keep it in the ice for at least 45 seconds -to wash the bowls put under hot water 😊enjoy😊 P. S it is amazing with grapes, strawberries and tangerines
traditionally, tanghulu is made of hawthorn berries but u can rlly make it however u want. i suggest trying to find hawthorn berries and make it into tnaghulu because it’s RLLY good.
YESS!! It pains me so much as someone from China when I see everyone doing all those different fruits because the hawthorns are legit the best and you could make them with red bean stuffing as well😭
tip! :when making tanghulu, if you are doing this method, i recommend NOT mixing the mixture. when me and my sister made it she mixed hers and it failed. so, if you dont mix the mixture your tanghulu will turn out better :)

Any fruit that are juicy but dry skin to lock in their juice like tangerines or blueberries can work. But for bigger fruits that you have to cut, it should have lower water content like apples or pineapple can work.

For táng hú lù（糖葫芦）in China and
maybe other countries, you need to use ice sugar(冰糖bī táng). I don't really no why but its more traditional
