WHAT A TURNOUT! Combermere car meet April 2024 edition

- In this video we're at the "Cars & Caffeine at Combermere" classic & sports car meet, and what a turnout there was of classic cars, sports cars, and even a faded old 1940s pickup truck ...
Part one of this upload covers our pre-meet preparations here at OCC HQ, while part two - the bulk of this video - is of the car meet itself.
We took the '47 Dodge plus the Mk1 MX-5, while dad also made an appearance in his XJ6.
The variety of cars that attended April 2024's Combermere car meet at the Old Piggery Cafe in Cheshire was off the scale, hats off to the organisers/marshalls who had a very tricky task in shuffling as many cars as possible into the car park.
Fans of classic cars were not to be disappointed. Amidst the many fine later sportscars were some very interesting oldies - including an incredible Citroen SM, various Minis, a rare Ford Sierra XR8, BMW 2002 turbo lookalike, 1914 Sunbeam, Jensen Interceptor, bright orange Austin A35, Triumph TR4A, BMW 635CSi, a gaggle of classic American cars (Mustangs, Chevy Bel Air etc), Volvo 122S, Austin-Healey 3000, MGB, MGC, Sunbeam Tiger, 1913 Chalmers speedster, Jaguar XJ5.3C, Escort twin-cam and many many more.
This was the best-attended Combermere car meet we've been to and long may it continue. It's great to see a lot of "new to us" old cars turning up here now too.
If you're new to the Old Classic Car channel, please take a look around, there are well over 500 videos on here now covering all sorts of shows, museum visits, garage fettling and more.
Likes, comments and subs (they don't cost anything!) really help the channel to continue.

What an amazing meet. Without the hard-working volunteers, no events would happen. I don't mind your hand pointing out things.
Indeed, it's all down to the organisers' efforts that these things happen at all, and those who turn up being sensible in their driving that it can continue
I'd love the Citroen SM! Thanks for all you both do... 🙏😊
Thanks Porschedude!
Some nice chrome horses today
Great vid, and thanks for the love for my 2002 'turbo' /VTEC :-)
Thanks, yeah love the look of the BM - it looked the part down at Bicester too :)
Agree with you about the sun. Has been in hiding here to . Time it came out before the sunscreen stale dates at the stores. Video very enjoyable.
Bursting at the seams this time! If I could have any of those cars the BMW 2002 turbo would be one an Austin Healey 3000 for popping down the road and the XK140 for a cruise. I love the bare metal Chevrolet great car. The Citroen SM is a lovely car and I agree 'like a spaceship'. I love the old brass cars as well. Thanks Rick and so glad your Dad made it too. 👍👍
Our collie buddy loves watching your vids rick.when he heres your voice hes at the screen.lolhope rosies doing well.❤
Glad your Collie likes the vids, alas Rosie is no longer with us and is with new owners now (long story)
My favourite one to take home would be the stunning Austin Healey , many beautiful cars to chouse from ..
Brilliant vid rick, citreon was the star at show.so many glorious classics.and DADS back lol.well done rick ive watched vidtwice loved it. Regards alan n suzy.❤❤
Excellent, thanks for the feedback and sticking with what we get up to :)
junk in the trunk, love it😊
That was a coincidence....I went past at 1;32.....one '32. ;-)
Ha that worked out well, complete coincidence I promise, I thought I recognised it driving towards us
always a treat to watch your videos , and i do like your hand pointing out the smaller points of interest, great work.
Thanks!!
SM V6 was in the Maserati Merak, the Bora was V8. 👍
What a meet! Awesome variety. Favorites: 2002 turbo, XK140 and the AH3000. For moderns the Alfa 4C. Please keep pointing out details! (Hands included) Thanks as always 😊
That old Chevrolet is a 1953. Denuded of it's side trim and given a shot of HP up front!
Gotcha, it was cool to see it there - esp as I'd never seen it anywhere else either before I'm sure
Hi Tom, I replied to your email yesterday evening but just noticed that it bounced back as undeliverable for some reason. I'll try again this morning and see if it works.
Hi. Brilliant show. So many good cars rolling in. I have always liked the Alfa Romeo Alfasud. The design still looks good today for a 50 year old car. Beautiful Citroen SM, a rare car now. The Jensen Interceptor is a classic. The Australian car show that I told you about had a 1975 Convertible Jensen Interceptor that was left hand drive. Possibly built for the American car market. It was stunning in a red colour. Good turn out. Thank you from Carl in NZ.
Thanks Carl, yes the SM was great although I saw another today elsewhere so maybe they're becoming a bit common :-)
@@oldclassiccarUK They aren't common. The car show I viewed in France on youtube had one in it. And they are rare in their own country.
Great video👏 capturing that amazing meet. It's nice having all the different cars parking together and the owners having chat, especially when you are in the coffee queue.
It was good to see Richard senior on his feet.
Of the OCC which would I pick? The Austin Healey and take it around the Alps and then drive down to Monaco.
For a MCC, I'll keep to my Lotus 😊
Thanks Richard, certainly on the mend now & looking forward to taking the "B" to the next meet!!
Excellent very busy car meet
Great to see your about dad about again😊😊
Nice to see a full show
Thanks for your time😎👌
Glad you enjoyed it
Great to see chap! The Amazon does have overdrive, but was added by it's first UK owner so is switched on the dashboard instead - I may well get round to adding a column stalk for ease. She is a '69 car, at this stage only the GTs had overdrive (apart from the odd special order).
Cool, it's a fine looking machine
Nice video again Rick, looks like you had a fabulous day. A big variety of cars, something for everyone, the SM was stunning !
Thanks for
Thanks 👍 yes it was fun to be sure.
Beautiful 🎉love these long vids 👍 Keep it up !
Glad to hear a vote for the long videos - keep watching for more soon!!
@@oldclassiccarUK thank you 🏁 🛻💨💨💨
Im filming,! ......Yes I know😅
:-)
Reckon your videos are making Combermere so busy as well as the sunshine.😄
TBH I think word-of-mouth is helping a lot to make it a very well known event now
Love the video and what an eclectic group of cars. I know it isn’t of your doing, but all the ad breaks are getting tiresome.
I hear what you say about the ads but without them, I couldn't justify spending the time this stuff takes to put together (and sometimes the £, although not in this case). If you watch a lot of YT then perhaps signing up to the Premium package is worth thinking about?
2CV is my choice
That was a great turnout well done, I'll have your dads jag thankyou cheers
The old XJ is certainly a fine machine to drive, I had a go last week and it's surprising how smooth it is
Well RJ, I watched Harley's Car Traction video yesterday and clicked on this to watch and POW power cut from 08.15 to 18.25 so I had to watch it this morning. Harley earned his keep there I think. your Dad/s Jag is my kinda car, it is lovely. A first rate video RJ.
Thanks Vince, sorry to have been the cause of your power cut. Funnily enough I've just come back in from sorting a minor electrical gremlin on the MX5 - one of my own causing sadly :-)
A fantastic tune out, must have madr a good drive it day. My top three would be the Sunbeam Tiger, Healey 3000and the TR4, Thanks for a good video. All the best Bob.
Hi Rick, great video again.Keep using your hands,it’s part of who you are. 👍
Thanks, re the hands yes I've kind of grown attached to them now
@@oldclassiccarUK Using your hands to explain things might be frowned upon by some peoples standards of video production but I find it helps when you’re explaining something and it’s part of what makes it your individual effort to impart things that you’ve come to know over the years. Some people can be over critical in my opinion and they’ve probably never posted a video in their lives. You’ve been doing a great job over the years and I bet the vast majority aren’t bothered in the slightest.
....and not a single e type Jaguar....
Indeed, there are a couple of roadsters local to the meet that turn up sometimes
The SM is beautiful. Always wanted one. Don't mind you using your hands in shot to point things out 👍👍
Thanks Nick, there'll be another SM appearing on a channel vid very soon
Outstanding!
Too many lovely cars to pick a favourite.......but, if you put my arm up my back, I'd plump for the Austin Healey 3000.
Cheers, yes that 3000 looked great, definitely in my top 3 for this meet
I hope your dad's knee continues to improve. So many gorgeous cars - 10 out of 10 for the mark 1 Cavalier...
Morning Richard . Well ,that was a full to the brim show indeed! There's no doubt that your part of the world has so many special cars that we don't see in the west country. I think you've mentioned that 2002 was an imposter , LHD only . There was a mini cooper that wasn't , pretendingto be a mk1 . That lnterceptor may have been an SP judging by the amount of bonnet louvres . The RHD Mustang would be an Australian built car only . Picking my favourites ? Virtually impossible ! But the SM , Interceptor , and Tiger for starters ..Thanks Richard
"White Tiger for me...! ❤
Richard ! I've only just started watching this .....unbeliveably that address and phone number still exsists on that door and Mark Jones is listed as a plumber ......there has to be a connection ......
Ha very intriguing! I checked out the address on Streetview but not the phone number
What do you show up in (car that is), when you go to these events ?
Have you watched the video?..............
Part 1 of this video was all about that
👍👍👍👍👍
10:50 Well, if you want to destroy what is left of the signwriting, don't put anything protective between them.
Nothing was going to come to any harm
Best comment of the day "a clown in a Honda".
It wasn't the only member of the public showing great impatience that morning, pathetic really, thanks for watching!
I'm starting to overdose on Porches at these meets. They seem to be as common as muck recently.
Shows how good they are...............
Ha yes they are extremely popular, this meet has been supported by the local Porsche club members since the get-go and it's in part thanks to them that the meet is so well supported now
No budget considerations you'd take the xk140 surely although all lovely cars but I've got a soft spot for dolly sprints and having an inca yellow mgb gt I've a soft spot for yellow and it ticks both boxes
The XK is lovely agreed, although the Austin-Healey (especially with that hardtop) is hard to stop thinking about too
Favourites:
1. Citroen SM (Maserati)
2. Jensen Interceptor
3. Ford Sierra XR8i
😁👍
Lovely SM reminded me of the first one I ever saw in the showroom of the dealers when they first came out. So NO, I did not think it would appeal to the Jensen buyer, he wanted that American V8. More for the Ferrari buyer who wanted a better quality of ride. My uncle worked for Jensen. Too many to choose from at this meet. Besides, with my hobbies, I prefer a small van, A30,35 & there were none.
OK I will watch this video, BUT you seem to be doing more on shows and less on doing car stuff on your channel , which is your right, BUT if that is the way the channel is going I may drift way, you used to do more CAR stuff.
I try and do both but not everything I do in the garage is particularly interesting anyway! Sunday's upload will be garage-related though.
what is the youtube to you son?
