Helpful hint (Since you are starting out) Put your last name on everything that is yours. Bins-write your name on the bottom so it does not bother you. Posters- (before you laminate) write your name on the back on the bottom. This way your stuff cannot go missing. You will borrow things from other teachers, and they will borrow from you.
To cover those games you could use a tablecloth/ curtain in a pattern that goes with your decor. I use Velcro so you could easily get in and out of the cabinets.

This is what you do on the chalkboard. Put blue painters tape on. Then hot glue on top of the painters tape. Then paper on top of it. Easy to remove without damaging the board and the glue comes off when you remove the tape. Make sense??

STEM bins- pipe cleaners, beads, modeling clay, aluminum foil, etc. Kids love to create! Thanks for sharing your journey. I'm going on my fifteenth year and seeing your joy for your new class has me motivated to go back and get my room going.
A small tip from a perfectionist: maybe you can put the pink at first next to the red (instead of the blue) because pink comes before red so it makes more sense! Love your classroom coming together!
I had two old chalkboards that I wanted to use as bulletin boards. I sanded them a bit to rough them up first. I used a spray adhesive and glued foam board on them both. Now I can staple into them. I am a veteran teacher, just celebrated 25 years in June. I teach Transitional Kindergarten in California. I think your classroom is coming along so well! Love the light from the windows and your bright, light colored bulletin boards and bins, bringing the room back to life. ☺️ Thanks for taking us along on your journey!
Have you considered replacing the red bins with the pink and keep the purple :) It will look so much brighter!

I am reorganizing my room for return to school in a few weeks- I have similar shelves to yours.I’ve been struggling on how to best use them better. By coincidence this video came up this morning- I rewatched and am so happy I did! ELA and Math bins will go there! Thanks! I currently have them in a rolling shelf. There will be one less piece of furniture in my room now. 🥳
I have the same doorbell in grey in my room. The kids asked how far away from the room it would still work. We did an experiment. I can be down in the gym or in the math hallway 😁 I take it with me between classes so if I'm not back by the bell, I can ring it and they think I'm outside the door. That way they start their warm up.
I have chalkboards in my classroom too! I tape the paper and cover it then input magnets on the back of the boards to go around the edges. I actually love that I can use magnets to hang things on the board!
We all start to do one thing, and it leads to another. Don't feel bad at all! You are making progress. That is the main thing. Can't wait to see the room with the tables set up! :)

I have chalkboards that I cover with paper. I’ve done hot glue and tape, but currently, I used sticky magnets for the paper and border, and it’s the best! Just sticky magnet on the back of the paper around the edges. It’ll stay, but you can move it around if you need to.

There is whiteboard contact paper! And as for putting the boarder up attach magnets!
One cheap thing I put in my stem bins is Dixie cups! Kids love building with them :)
Also, in my room I have pink replace red in the rainbow (but I know you said you don’t like purple anyway...I don’t like red haha) love your videos! Your students are so lucky to have a teacher so dedicated to giving them an awesome learning environment :)

Instead of Dixie cups, I used the mini red solo shot glass cups. They are plastic and held up great. They've held up for 3 years with my pre-k and kinders. They're at Wal-Mart and dollar tree.
If the pink is your favorite color why don’t you put the purple back on the shelves and use the pink near your desk/board where you see it and use daily?
Lindsay Johnson I want pink visible in the room and purple to go extinct altogether. There I said it 😂🤷🏼♀️ probably going to hide the purple ones in a closet or cabinet.

Better check if you can have curtains if you can't have crate seats it might be because of the fabric.

Last year, I was a first year first grade teacher! You may want to put shapes and 3D shapes in an easy to grab rainbow bin. Keep counters handy!!!! You never know when you'll get an idea and need to grab them. Also, I keep a bin of unifix cubes all pulled apart, and then I keep a bin of unifix cubes in groups of 10 so that my kids can grab 10 easily. I made the mistake of not keeping ten groups in the beginning of the year. Yikes. Good luck!
Hot glue--it's the answer to everything! Also, I feel you when you found MORE Unifix cubes! My team and I found at least 20 packs of foam shapes that we don't use...and we keep finding more and more. I swear they haunt our dreams

I remember your haul blog last year you mentioned just using the crayon banks as decoration. But maybe you could make it a class savings to then donate to some charity in their community. Obviously the change and what not is yours but you could also send a letter home to the parents and you'd probably find several of them would send change here and their for their children to donate. (And you could tell the parents to send it in an envelope for the student to give you then you place the change in the bins with the class. This way if a parent doesn't want to participate no student feels left out). But it could be a great way to discuss money, savings, why you'd donate, and the ability to talk about the community and why giving back to the community is important. Then at the end of the year when you donate the money all your kids could draw a picture and write a class letter to the charity talking about who they are. And if you wanted you could invite your team teacher to join if she wanted.🤷🏼♀️

You need a lot of Unifix Cubes 3 tubs is not too many. Kids generally love them and will build patterns, towers, etc with them. Great for a zillion math activities.
Andy M I will tuck them away- certainly not getting rid of them! My year long internship in my master’s program was in first grade and we never had so many at once. I’m blessed with what was left FOR SURE 🤗
I suggest going to Lowe’s and just getting those little furniture moving sliders (they look like little frisbees) they have some for hardwood as well, that way you can move your tables and not mess up the floors.

Hey! Is your chalkboard magnetic? If so, you can get the sticky circle magnets (Walmart has them) and put them on the back of your boarder...that is what I did with my white board at the front of the room and it worked great.
If you wanted to have some dry erase board area amazon sells dry erase adhesive paper that comes in rolls like contact paper. It works great.
Have you considered putting up a paper on top of your chalk board so that you can use it as a whiteboard. There are roles of better than paper that have a white board covering if that makes any sense.
The chalkboard should be magnetic!! Use magnets glued to bulletin board paper

I suggest checking the games to make sure you have all the pieces. No point storing games that can't be played. I "inherited" a bunch of things that turned out to be trash, including 50 year old curriculum. That was a very frustrating week that could have been spent doing other things but now I am finally getting things set up. Cute but functional is the way to go. No reason storage can't be practical and pleasing to the eye.

Have you considered ditching the desk? I am going into my tenth year of teaching and I got rid of my teacher desk last year. It was amazing. I was actually able to stay so much more organized and I loved the space it freed up. I used my kidney table as a desk after school.
Katie Hopper I’ve thought about it! There are some other teachers near my room that would like a desk but can’t find one to use, so I’m worried that I wouldn’t be able to get it back. I’m thinking since I have no experience either way and I can’t get it back as easily, I’ll try year 1 with it and go from there! If I need more room I’m not opposed to the idea 😊

I love having my teacher desk. It's like my "administrative" duties area, like for writing plans, grading, reviewing IEPs, dealing with data, parent notices, etc.
I only start and end my day at my desk, but it's like my little personal space. Very comforting.
I agree with ditching the desk- after like 15 years with and 5 without (guessing here- but I'm close), I love having things on shelves behind my desk or in a closet. Clears off the desk, takes away the temptation from sticky finger students, and I can find everything. No more searching through drawer after drawer to find the ruler or extra tape or whatever. If it's a closet behind me- close the doors and it's all hidden. For shelves, I would use the curtain technique. You can tuck a file cabinet behind you or raise your table just enough to tuck a 2 drawer one underneath. It's a lot easier to move rooms and/or schools- which I have done A LOT- when you don't have to go through desk drawers. It's all packed and sorted already.
You could use magnetic tape on the back of the border for the chalkboard (if it is magnetic), maybe...
It’s magnetic! I just decided to hot glue + painters tape to prevent damage to the original board. Just finished It today actually- will be in my “Day 5” video :)
For applying paper and boarders use low temp hot glue.
Get a box cutter to cut the paper after you staple it to the bulletin board. Makes life much easier.
My teachers have those doorbells and they ring them when we are too loud
You should put some clay or play doh or sofftee dough in one of the stem boxes
when your doorbell went off it scared me half to death.....

In my classroom we don't have bulletin boards. on the chalkboard I hang up foam board and it becomes a makeshift bulletin board

@@puttingthemfirst i think it depends if you do the border on the chalk board the same way! if you do then it wont matter! but dont be afraid to take scissors to your extra paper in the future! just open them up and drag them across!! you are doing a fantastic job for this being your first year. i suggest masking tape to hang your chalkboard bulletin board and put pieces ALL OVER! i'm so happy you watch me as well!!!
Girl, Sticky tack. How do people not know about sticky tack! Haha! Use that to hold your paper to the chalkboard.
Check out the site Raymondgeddes.com for school things. There are school supplies like specialty pencils, rewards, erasers little gift items and more. One of their products called Fiddle Sticks would be perfect for your stem bins. Those rainbow bins are really pretty. You and your coteacher can move the tables together. Also, invest in one or two tower fans for the room. Those 21 little bodies are going to heat up your room even more. Be sure to purchase a good electric sharpener as well. The X-Acto is a good brand. They will last at least two years. The others wear out and will shut down after a few pencils.
