    The sound design is a 10/10 in diablo2, not just the insanely good tracks but also all other sounds. They are unique and distinct yet not confusing at all and provide a great feedback to the gameplay. You will know exactly what mobs you hit, what mobs die, the skill you used, the attacks the mobs used, the area you are in and their drops - all with your eyes closed. In comparison D3 and D4 is a blended mess of random shouts and grunts.

  • @thebigcg
    @thebigcg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I think the main reason D4 falls short is the items don’t mean anything. In Diablo 2 whether you played for 1 hour or 10,000 hours, when a Ber Rune drops, it is a feeling unlike anything else. You immediately know you can build an amazing runeword or trade it for some really good gear that will significantly better your character. This is lost in D4. I think this is why PoE resonates so highly with many people. Drops mean something. And until blizzard realizes they need to change their item formula completely; it will always fall short in my opinion. People like to trade. People like having the dopamine rush of a very expensive item dropping they can actually do something with. In D2 and PoE, yellow items are more often than not better than uniques. This gives the sense of a never ending chase for that perfect min maxed item. Again this is lost in D4.

    • @WolfRaven-jm1cm
      @WolfRaven-jm1cm 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It's actually lost in many games. The fact is that modern games force players to play one type of way or a single build because the entire game is tailored around it and no trading.
      Diablo 2 has so many ways to play a single character and a diverse set of item affixes and unique mechanics that you could play as a barb with a bow or a sorc with a scythe.
      Diablo 3 and 4 don't even give you an option to use weapons outside of your class.
      Many games these days are like that and the developers seem to think that characters in the game are supposed to represent themselves and the players are just there to watch the story the developers want to tell.
      Diablo 2 has a story but it's not so much the main focus. It's in the background, something the player discovers on his own journey as a champion of Sanctuary. The player is the focus and the player is the main character in Diablo 2.
      There is just another story being told in the background, unfolding as the player discovers information about Marius and his role in what is happening in Sanctuary.

    • @noobgoestrapping5084
      @noobgoestrapping5084 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree wholeheartedly. Massive old school Diablo 2 fan here.
      I think POE hit a goldmine with their currency, and general item tinkering.
      Because that way, even in a SSF setting(no real trading), there are "big" drops that still give you that dopamine rush that a big value trade item would.

  • @gousriracha9018
    @gousriracha9018 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    For a smoother experience use the /players x ( pick a number - 1-8) command in single player. What this command does is emulate it being more players in the game (8 being max) hence making the game a lot harder. To play on a higher player setting make the level grinding reduntant. In normal you usually leave for nightmare when closing in on level 40, 60 from nightmare to hell. Players 8 in hell as a newcomer is a no go but fidget around with the players setting and see where you feel comfortable.

  • @ioanvladescu5987
    @ioanvladescu5987 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    It's cool watching a newbie do the game for his first time. I've played it so much in the past 20 years, min maxing the best builds of each class, that I forgot that this game actually lets you make lots of choices early on. Lots of suboptimal and character breaking choises if you plan on trying hell, but fun choices nonetheless. Choices that make the game fun until you have to respec.
    I wish you'd play this game more, so that we could all re-experience all those "firsts" of a d2 virgin: first time you beat hell, firsti time you beat hell on hardcore, first time you beat ubers, first time you play cow level, first time you find cool shit (a high rune, some good uniques, some cool charms, some bling), first time you make cool shit (an enigma or an infinity, the goats), etc. Hope you do it.
    PS: What I LOVE about this game is that hell is a very tricky difficulty bump that can he a challenge to overcome at first (because there's very few builds that can handle an all res monster if you don't have infinity or - now that they've added it in the game - a sunder). But you just gotta beat it once, and after you aquire an enigma and an infinity, it opens the door for lots of builds on all characters because you can transfer that item. So until your first infinity runeword for +1, you're quite limited in a couple of things like hammerdin, but after that you can go wild. I find it has much more variety and flavour than D4, and that's not an unfair thing to expect from D4.
    I actually enjoy the sunder as well, because it's not as op as infinity, and because you find them one by one, all the richness of builds from other classes unlocks gradually (which I think is very good). You start hammerdin and while finishing the game first, maybe you find a sunder that's cold, so that opens up builds with cold damage like sorc's. Or maybe you find a lightning one and suddenly you can play lightning sorc or javazon.
    They had a solid, perfectly good game to build upon and return to the roots while gaming for the future, because as much as I like D2, it has a million things that can be improved. It's evident that D2 could have been redone, because the ressurected did deliver some patches that added cool stuff to the game after a long period of stall (new runewords, assasin is op, etc). But they chose to make the shareholders happy and shit on the community. And now we hope that maybe D5 will undo the sins.

    You mentioned the ramping of the difficulty and severity of what was going on as the acts progressed. Gear basically does the same thing. Every decision becomes more important as you get later in the game, later difficulties, and later acts in those difficulties. If you're not prepared for Dolls and Souls in A5 Hell, you'll get absolutely destroyed. Even with good gear you can still get caught if you're not careful. Then after you beat the game there's so much min maxing with FCR, FHR, FBR, AS breakpoints, defense, life, AR. Skimping other what seems like obviously good stats to maybe get that AR pumped up to hit things more, etc. Then after you've mastered all that, the true test of skill, knowledge, and gear is PvP. And for that, you'll have to talk to Coooley.

    The game gets really interesting in Hell due to the difficulty spike and immunities, you really need to consider your build to just be able to beat it. Thankfully you picked Paladin though, which is probably the easiest class for a new player to beat it with, and you can run Uber Tristam if you re-spec.

    The Spitter boss in Diablo 1 is notorious for a first play.
    One thing to keep in mind with D1 is that it was a global magic and gear system. You could swap to a bow. Spells like Teleport or Stone Curse made running after things a non-issue. It's why next to Bow Rogue a Warrior is the best class end-game. Rogues make decent melee as well though they lack the Crit Warrior's get and need Fastest Block on shields.

    I really hope you play through to Hell and endgame! When you get fully sucked into the itemization and gearing up for Ubers, and the D2 trade economy, that's where the crack-level addiction really ramps up. It scratches an itch that D3/D4 never could quite reach. Rod seems to think the long grind/chase isn't feasible anymore, but I really think they fundamentally misunderstood the assignment when trying to bring back what made that long grind enjoyable. The dopamine hits in D2 are... *chefs kiss*.

Normal kind of just gives you the opportunity to learn the story and whatnot, no real reason to stop and grind like there is in the higher difficulties. Also im sure you've realised by now, but you shoulda kept your resistance charms because you lose res just like in poe

Then you have to get chin deep in to the runewords and uniques if you want to go in to pandemonium. Somewhere along the way I got a feeling that DM is going to get hooked. D2 is a masterpiece, it'll get it's hooks in you eventually.

    The people who made this game LOVED this game, they LOVED playing games, they LOVED the people who would play their game and wanted to give them something amazing. They wanted to make the very best game they could, and they made decisions based on that, not based on a vote for higher profits in a board room full of people who couldn't care less about the product. It isn't nostalgia speaking when DM talks about how incredible this game is, he's never played it before... Blizzard in it's heyday was some of the best there ever was, probably some of the best there ever will be.

    i feel like the key to d2 is that it is a two step game
    step one is to play the story and enjoy leveling with a pace that doesnt just expect you to hit max level and start endgame grind, the story tries to slow you down and have you enjoy the encounters like in the ice caves for example running in poe style would get you surrounded and possibly killed. fighting bosses feels like a moment for each act where you actually have to stop and fight them instead of in poe's case we are just there to get to maps so the bosses instantly hit their next cinematic moment like kitava falling off the roof 3 times while you do nothing. in a game paced like d2 that moment would feel like time to catch your breath but in poe its just tedious because you know you could be doing a map.
    step two is the endgame grind itself which poe does well but is so full of features and its own story its practically a separate game which might as well start every character at maps and skip the story the game doesnt feel like showing you anyway. d2 does this not as well but still fairly interesting by giving more dedicated players runes and uniques to collect and turn their leveling character into a full build.
    i feel like if blizzard wants to make d2 levels of success they would need to make the difficult decision of focus a story and tac on an endgame or focus endgame and just start players off in it. also since the guys who made d2 story and cinematics are scattered to the wind and the games industry has both hit the ceiling of technology and somehow constantly needs to grow thier profits and budget i dont see any games being made with the passion needed for something as impactful as d2 to happen again

      If the devs really want to show people they care. They will come up with a better system than runewords. They need to start experimenting and take a bloody risk for once. I would suggest they start streaming and ask the community for help designing dungeons the best ones being showcased with new patches. Those areas should be manipulated with items to make it almost impossible to clear or just fun and have a cosmetic to chase as a drop. Get people involved in the building process and make uniques and dungeons by the community for the community with the polish of Blizzard.
