- Have you ever seen a fearless dog taking on a mountain lion? Or one saving its owner from notorious wolves? What about a brave dog that risked his life and attacked the mighty polar bear for the safety of its owner. I know these happenings might sound unbelievable and somewhat made up. But as you can see, they happened and were caught on camera.
Encounters with wild animals can pose a serious threat to your safety, but having the right dog by your side can provide an added layer of protection. Some dog breeds have the will and strength to hold their own against much larger animals than their size.

No dog,ANY dog,no matter how big,no matter how strong will ever,EVER defeat a healthy polar bear,even the smallest polar bear,be it in the 400 lbs range.
Yes,I ve had a couple of very well trained dogs and I thought the world of them,they were loyal,protective and they caused fear into other dogs and the neighborhood,but I would ve been a fool to think that they d be a match to a polar bear.
All they could ve done was buy me some time to get my fire stick ready.

I hunt wolves with a pack of 12 Kangal's. These are 250lb plus Mastiff crossbred. My dogs have killed Grizzlys

Males are typically 550-1700 pounds, and females are 330-650 pounds , hell even the females are much bigger. and if they have cubs, lights out for kan gal.

No single dog mentioned above could protect you from a full sized wolf or bear. But single dog would make good dinner for them. So never leave a single dog outside your house at night if your fence is not high enough to prevent wild animals to jump in.

It's so refreshing to see someone make a video about dogs and polar bears that doesn't have the slightest idea about neither dogs nor polar bears. Polar bears are the apex bears, they will attack and devour ANYTHING, unlike brown, black, or grizzly bears. No dog, of any size or breed will survive more than a minute against a polar bear. Even a Honey Badger would take out any of these dogs.
Even a full grown timber wolf alone would beat any dog breed, wolves are heavily underestimated and there is a video of a wolf alone without any help of a pack bringing down a prey larger than himself

I'm Northern Yupik from Artic Circle. Our dogs pack, mush, and yes make good alarms when bears come. While that dog was portrayed as actually hunting the polar bear, I can assure you anyone whom had good dogs would attack a bear singularly. Track and bay one with a single dog or have one alert ( as this tied dog was) is what happens. I actually use aridales to hunt bears. A pack! Not a single dog. As a L.e.o. I no longer use German Shedders.
I use airedales for police work and cadaver dogs. I also actively hunt cougar, bears and wild hogs that are human dangers. Airedales were the first military and police dogs. Super long double k9's far exceeding shepherds, bully's and higher bite force. They also are hypoallergenic and live longer/ work longer than shepherds. Aridales also retrieve and herd. My 18 and 14 year old just worked the hurricane in Florida and we hunted wild hogs in down time to feed people since the grocery chain was shut down. I duck and pheasant hunt but, I've won several casts against several professional competitive full time coon hunters with coon hounds. Dales are not the dog for everyone,but for my complex needs they check my boxes .My second choice is mollosers. I have also used dales to track injured deer. I recently added a drone to that. I have tracking collars and the best protective hunting gear for bear or hog hunting, but, I also love my dogs so great common sense and good recall are a big part of why I chose this breed.

No dog could ever match up to a polar bear. There’s a video on a cub black bear which is a much smaller weaker species of bear compared to a polar bear rough up and man handle a dog that was twice it size on a one on one. How the hell are even 5 kangals or the strongest dogs alive going to overpower an adult polar bear who weights in around 1,200-1,800 pounds and stand 8 1/2 to 11 ft tall

No mention of the Akita . Formidable dog that does have the killer instinct ! My first was a huntress ! Wild cats, coyotes, huge raccoons,and otters … nothing swayed this dog or beat her . Once bringing a ranger out to show illeagallly set leg traps she stuck her head into a culvert only to get snared in a illegal set coni ear beaver trap . Took the ranger and me to open the trap from her neck ! The ranger couldn’t believe the dog not only lived thru that but was fine ! She was loyal ,protective and smart as hell ! I trained this dog at 9 months old to respond to hand signals from 50 ft within a month ! God I miss that dog
I was a mailman [ see my comment above ] for decades , the Akita WAS one of my favorites , only once I was introduced , they loved me , I had 3 of them in my years of service at different stops on my route . They are SO smart , feel for ya

I agree an Akita is a true killer. We accidently bought a Samoyed-Arctic wolf hybrid. Only an Akita stood up to him and he was sadly misunderstood and we had to put him down at 7. He was so healthy and strong. It was the 80's we had no clue how to manage him.
No Pyrenees? They and other livestock guardian dogs are bred to take on or scare away predators. No bears, wolves, coyotes or big cats on our farm in the mountains of BC when the dogs are out. Well except for a 700 lb grizz that showed up one day. But the dogs gave him a good barking to.

I have an Akita, Alaskan Malamute and St. Bernard mix and she probably could and would have gone up against anything, she had no fear. The Cane Corso I had was on the clock all the time, she liked women and kids but was very wary of men. It took me 3 weeks to gain her trust, after that, no doubt she would have protected us with her life. When I was a young man I was given a high content Wolf Hybrid (man lost his job and could no longer afford to feed him). He was huge, 150 lbs. very tall and creepily quite. He protected me from a Rottweiler a man set on us so I always felt safe while he was with me. He didn't trust adults (men or women) but he loved all children, he didn't care what they did to him, he was always gentle with them (had to be because he was raised with 5 kids under 10).

I have personally raised both Timber Wolves and Kangals or as some people call them Anatolian Shepherds. One on one in a fair fight maybe they could take the tiny euroasian wolf and even the Turkish sheperds will say they lose multiple dogs a year. But one on one with a North American Timber Wolf. No just NO. As I said I have personally raised both breeds and a Kangal is a beautiful and loving and loyal breed but they are absolutely no match for a grown Timber Wolf in a fair contest.

Absolutely and to protect their family they will give their life. The guardian breeds are huge beautiful, powerful animals. I have raised Great Pyrenees, Anatolian Shepherds and my personal favorite is a mix of the two. But as I said in a fair contest one on one they are just not a match for a full grown North American Timber Wolf and that's ok. They would be a good deterrent. If there were several dogs the wolf would simply move on to easier pickings rather than risk an injury.

Thing I’ve ever seen says the border collie is the smartest in the pool is number two. I’ve got a standard poodle, not a doodle, a purebred poodle. I’ve had quite a few large breed dogs in my life with most of them being German wire hair pointer‘s, also known as Drahthaars. I always thought I had some pretty smart dogs, but none of them compared to this poodle. He’s quite a watchdog to. I don’t know if he would actually tag someone but boy, he scares the hell out of people.👍🏻🤠
@@sweetdrahthaar7951I would trust a Pitbull before I would trust a Standard Poodle not to bite me. In some cases the Dogs are worse then Chows so yes they do bite people. Keep a strong hand on the Dog and keep him under control or you maybe heading down the road of problems you don't want like a law suit if it bites someone. I worked for a Vet and found out the hard way that breed is not stable.

Border collies are very intelligent dogs but they are really work dogs as they need so much exercise

I saw a mountain lion get a hold of the doberman and the doberman was being over-powered by the mountain lion! I would trust a dogo argentino or kangal against a mountain lion!

A Puma would make short work of them to. Pumas and North American Timber Wolves are around the same size as a Kangal if not a little bigger in most cases and will take down the Dog with ease in a one on one. The wise thing to do is never put the Dog in a place where they my encounter apex predators if you can avoid it.
Right now I have a " small " black bear coming into my yard at night , about 250 lbs.I have an apple tree in the back area here in Colo. Lest I had 2 big dogs , like Akita's not just one , would I let them out to scare it off . I think [ Colo. ] is going to have a fast Winter coming , this bear has been here for the last few days , late at night , the apples are big . There were Bull Elk , two if them , coming for apples , once he showed up , they are no longer dropping by . Once the apples are gone , and a lot of hazing [ harmlessly ] he will be gone . I think I want Akita's , they are fearless

You are absolutely correct . They are Coarsing dogs , [ Sight speed hounds ] and like a Borzoi , capable of great speed . I lived in a tipi in Montana , many years ago . We had a German Short hair that was FAST , very fast ... a guy brought a few Borzois over ? In this huge field ? They [ Borzois ] literally ran a circle around the Short hair that was running straight to a thrown object arriving there before the Shorty did . Their speed [ as all sight hounds ] is astounding
I'd pick just about any of them for protection but I wouldn't want to have to feed most these brutes.
btw - I seriously doubt polar bears would be "afraid" of any dog if it came right down to it. They only out weigh the largest dog here by several hundred pounds and where is the dog going to get purchase on a large bear? A bit of hype don't you think?

I've had 2 German Shepherds and 2 Pit bulls. They are still guarding me from heaven. I'm ready for a puppy and thinking about a Cane Corso. But will probably get another Pit bull since there are so many put down and in shelters. All my dogs have been male. Thinking of getting a female this time. Can anyone offer advise on male vs female? Thanks
Females guard close. They don't go out away from you. Males will and do. Males don't "stay in the den". They are usually outside sentries. They take their fight to the threat, away from the "den". Mamadog protects the den and the babies. She doesn't let anyone in the den to get her "babies". Get me?
If you have a situation it's best to have both. I have found that if you are never harsh and you sit on the floor and share food with your dogs, even spit it from your mouth and let them eat it from the floor or let them catch it in their mouths, as wild or naturally raised [ too much human interaction with dogs and their progeny interferes with their natural inclinations ] outside dogs will do, they will always see you as family and always see you as the leader and they always protect one another, you don't have to train it. They will take on Sentry duty on their own when they mature. AmStaffs and APBTs do it differently. APBT hung close unless she felt the need to charge and bluff, While the AmStaff ranged the inside perimeter of the fence After standing in the center of the yard and turning to the floor winds to sniff everything coming across the air, to see what needed inspecting first. This type of result comes from Observing your dog and allowing it to be itself and develop its personality and its relationship with you and family and its "homeland". There is no need to be constantly talking and interacting with your dog. Thinking dogs are the best kind. They are the kind that adjust their own behavior and think before acting. There's only comes by giving them time to figure some things out on their own with that constantly being told and directed, pushed and prodded into strict behaviors. Oh, I have some absolutes such as staying inside the threshold of the door when it's opened unless I give permission to go out. My dogs need to stop on a dime, if I tell them to. If I say "mine'' they better not put it in their mouth, and if they already have something they shouldn't in their mouth and I say "mine" they need to drop it. Just one word and a situational awareness to a thinking dog gets the desired result. That's why Mamadogging works. Dogs don't have words but if the focus is on one thing and there is a growl from Mamadog that puppy knows just what it should do. That is also why I can growl and slap a table next to my full plate of barbecued ribs, Leave the room for 5, 10 minutes ...They'll still be there when I get back - even if I have a pack. I have found they will keep each other in check to guard what mama growled at and put a paw slap to, and told them not to touch with my actions. After the leader is done eating they get the ribs. That is their reward for good behavior. From puppyhood,d they learned to wait for gratification.
With guardy or bitey breeds, It is not wise to play the game that many families do of teasing the dog into growling or lunging or snapping at other members of the family in an act to protect one person or other, this produces and encourages anxiety stress and reactionary unpredictable behavior inside and outside the home, and can be one of the reasons why pitbulls have the reputation they have, and why they attack children and adults outside of their homes. It is a proven fact that trying to physically punish a pitbull can cause fear aggression towards human beings which they were bred to not have, but instead to be sensitive to humans and aggressive to animals - If a pitbull is ever aggressive to a human, everything in its life went sadly and badly up to that point went.
Many shepherd and guardian dogs that live outside with their flocks are left alone to raise their babies until many weeks After their birth, before the pups are handled, and they allow Mamadog to teach them manners. If you observe them you will see them weaning their babies by eating their own food and regurgitating it for their babies. I spit out food to my pups to simulate this, and bond with them. I sit with them on the floor and I play with them and give names to their behavior with instantaneous rewards of a crumble of food or a cheery "thank you!" in a coochie-coo baby talk voice. If the puppy is looking right directly at me or the dug is death I show them my face with a smile and my tongue hanging out and panting just like a dog does when they're happy with something. I continue capturing their actions with names and later use those words as commands. This all works extremely well, coupled with Dealing with recalcitrant youth the same way Mamadog does by putting them down on the floor and keeping them there until they decide to change their attitude before letting them up. May be giving them a growl so they will change their behavior such as staying out of the trash when they get near it, works far better than trying to punish a dog the way humans would a child because dogs don't perceive things the same way. Spanking of dogs' butts or using the newspaper to the nose or rubbing it in pee or waste on your carpet only proves to the dog that you are unpredictable and mean - that is the lesson that the dog learns - remember, most dogs will lick up their own eliminations to keep their area clean given and situational awareness and not enough space, coupled with maturity and raised by their mother long enough to learn that behavior in a natural, or in my household, I would call it "organic Mamadog rearing" setting. They don't associate your punishing behavior with their action that you didn't like. It confuses them and causes anxiety. Also look ahead to Whether something could be problematic to another person or a kid such as if your dog jumped up on them and accidentally scratched them with a broken nail any swears he's been, or snags there expensive Chanel linen garment or $45 silk hosiery and she swears she's been attacked because her dog is a pitbull, make sure you don't accidentally reward behaviors that could become Problems for you and others. This can mean that unless your dog is acting right you don't give it attention period this creates a thinking dog that will gauge his own behavior so that you don't have to constantly be telling it what to do while you're trying to talk with someone. As soon as they change their mind and do the good thing you are instant with the pat on the head or scratch behind the ears. This also means not giving into their demands for constant attention but giving it on your terms when you're sitting in relaxing or trying to get some crochet or knit project done. Are just growl and look at them and say what do you do they figure it out and they set quietly by my side as soon as they do, pets and ear scritches. The reason I spent time on the floor with them taking naps or capturing behaviors and playing with them on the floor is so that eventually they will have to ask permission to get up on the furniture. The way they ask, is to sit in front of me still and quiet, no whines. This behavior gets rewarded with an invitation up, or I get down (to keep them guessing, and polite). You just gotta be strong - don't fall for the whine or the insistent paw grab, or, those blasted puppy dog eyes [truth: I can be a sucker for 'em at times]! By the way, since trash is its own reward, you should only have trash cans that have lids on them - preferably the kind that is not battery operated motion sensor, but has a foot pedal to operate the lid - one less worry!
I had both male and female pitbulls the true pitbull bloodlines my dad was involved with the American pitbull association all of his dogs were Imported and they don't sale any of their puppies out to the public,a female pitbull is easier to handle a trainer will tell us but I don't think it matters on a male or female growing up all my life with these dogs talk to your local shelter have them get to know you and asked them for thier advice on helping u pick out the right dog that will best fit your life style,I am only being honest alot of pitbulls do not get a long with other animals it's unfair to think that they will if it's a true pitbull bloodlines , but asked your local shelter for a young puppy because their window closes around 4 months old for socializing and desensitizing them and in all honesty with dogs that have a higher prey drive they need to be socializing and desensitizing them and training them from day one as soon as you bring a puppy home, I am not telling you not to get a full grown pitbull out of a shelter but I am telling you the truth ,they pick up bad habits from the shelter and they might have been really abused and they can turn ,I'm all for adoption but if you are not experienced in dog training then get a pitbull puppy from the shelter u will be able to get it set up on the right foot from day one, I personally would never adopt a full grown pitbull from a shelter because it most likely don't like other dogs or animals that will be a big liability for any one because most of the time when dogs go to the shelter they were not bred by a responsible dog breeder who breeds for health and temperament so u can get a dog that was poorly bred with behavior or aggressive behaviors and it will be so hard and the training on aggressive dogs is so expensive alot of trainers now believe in positive reinforcement training and that is a joke for a pitbull or a cane Corso and dogs like that, they need a firm leader and they need to be taught straight away now I have a Czech German shepherd and a cane Corso and a Presa canerio and I love them dearly , for people who want either a cane Corso or presa canerio they are nothing alike the Presa canerio is more energetic and more aloof they need a lot more time to burn out the energy so they can sleep good 😂a cane Corso is more chill but they are both very serious dog breeds

The "Rhodesian" Ridgeback did NOT originate in South Africa, it originated in what was then called Rhodesia, now called Zimbabwe. There is not a dog alive that will defeat a polar bear, although I have heard of 2-3 of them driving a bear away from a village when it tried to go through instead of around and Is the PROPER name of what you listed as the "Cane" Corso not the Cano Corso?... I raised St. Bernards for 7 years, and have seen some big dogs, St's, Great Pyrenees, Newfoundland's, Tibetan Mastiffs, Boerbols, Russian and Irish Wolfhounds, all raised by different friends, and I once saw a very, VERY mean Chihuahua that would have scared all of them.
A polar bear lives a life where whatever it sees move is potentially food. Can be nearly 10 feet tall and 1500 pounds. Your pet (fill in the bland) doesn't stand a chance.

I would not talk too confidently about the Rottie being able to kill wolves. You may need at least 4 to kill 1-2 wolves. In fact, saw a video where two wolves just walked up to a Rottie that was chained outside and the wolves just grabbed it and pulled it off the chain and dragged it off to eat it.
Wolves in general bite force is stronger than any breed of dogs. Somewhere in the 900+ compared to a German Sheppard's being in the 200+ range.

That would depend on the type of wolf. If it was a North American Timber Wolf the rottie will lose 99 out of 100 times. The Timber Wolf out classes the Rottie in every way that matters They are larger, pound for pound far more powerful, faster, have more bite force and stamina and are far more experienced killers.

So yes a single Wolf can absolutely kill a rot. Have you ever seen a Timber Wolf up close? One of the animals I raised was 36 inches at the shoulders and 180 lbs.
