  • I'm continuing my Yamaha C3 restoration project after cleaning out the original tank. The replacement fuel tank showed up faster than expected, so I installed that one instead. Skip around with the chapter markers below.
    Note to future self: Don't forget to tighten the oil dipstick COMPLETELY... DOOFUS!
    I checked the oil level before the test ride and lightly tightened it when I finished. Unfortunately, engine vibration and crankcase pressure backed it out in just 1 mile of road testing! That was a nasty mess to clean up. It was everywhere... all over the back of the scooter and in the wiring harnesses on the right side... YUCK!
    Time indexes:
    0:00 Starting the cleanout of the fuel line
    2:56 Nope, had to pull the hose and the fuel injector
    4:11 Installing the new fuel tank assembly
    8:19 Navi is fetching fuel for the C3
    12:38 First startup attempt after reconnecting everything
    14:57 Second startup with a jumper box
    16:23 Reassembling the trunk box, seat, and wiring for a test ride
    18:33 Starting the test ride, and the fuel sender DOESN'T WORK! 😡
    22:00 DERP... I left the dipstick loose, and it puked oil everywhere!

    You really need to find a good (used) motorcycle lift. Your knees will thank you and your friends that ride will be blowing up your phone begging for some time on the lift. You could make a tidy sum doing just independent oil changes, filter, and spark plug changes for the folks who aren't mechanically gifted. And it's good content.

    nice to see the c3 again, thats my ride twelve miles each way to the job at the golf coarse here in Pismo where gas is 469$ per gallon. I just bought a Vespa 250 gts,my new ride. Pismo Paul

    I was going to mention a motorcycle lift myself. I figure you've been riding and working on bikes since high school so if you thought you really needed one you would have one.
    By the way, I love your neighborhood. Here in 5th Ward I don't think I've ever seen the brick house. 😂

    Great job on getting it running again. Love the C3. I think all scooters and motorcycles made today should be fuel injected. Looking forward to chapter 2 on the C3.

    I done two of these fuel pump deals on my C3's 3-4 years ago and I used knock off pumps from ebay or amazon for like $10 with good results...

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howdy, Doug! I considerd the cheap pump motor inserts, but my original unit was really corroded. I opted for the brand new Yamaha pump & sender assembly just so I wouldn't have any problems. WRONG. The fuel sender doesn't work, so now I'm stuck with another problem. I'll figure it out... maybe get a generic housing and sender from eBay or Amazon. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    If I have not mistaken your check engine was lit all through the test ride and it may be because you're spilling oil due to the dipstick not fully screwed in. I had a similar experience, checked everything before the test ride and gone however forgot to screw in the oil filler dipstick. pesky mistakes lol!!

    So surprising that bike is from 2007. Whenever I see one online I think "Oh Yamaha making an electric scooter"? Yamaha had a time machine.

    If I had to choose between the speedo or the fuel gauge not working, it would be the speedo everytime. Hopefully, it's an easy fix but she's a runnin'. 👍

    Do you have any advice on why my Yamaha C3 fuel injector is not squirting fuel. I’ve already put a new fuel pump and I’ve already cleaned the injector and it has a new battery when it hooked up to injector wire. It just doesn’t squirt if I put fueldown the injector hole the bike starts up right away. What could be killing power to the injector. I hooked an ohm reader up to the injector itself and it reads .013. I’m not sure if that means it’s good or bad. Please help.

    Don't know much about these Yamaha C3. They look fun. How fast can they go?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Howdy! The C3 tops out around 45-47 MPH, which is quick for a little 50cc scoot. However, it takes a while to get up there. It's comfortable speed is around 40 MPH, and it gets an amazing 117-125 MPG at that speed. 😉👍 --QM

    Hi. I have a question about my C3. New fuel pump and plug since suddenly running rough. Engine light still on. Runs a tad better but not humming as before. Could my injector be suspect? Thanks.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      🤔 Interesting. What is the mileage on your scoot? If you haven't checked or adjusted the valves lately, they might be slightly out of spec. If you replaced the spark plug, check the plug boot and the spark gap to be sure they are good.
      I would also try cleaning out the fuel line and injector, then clean the throttle body. Try running a high concentration of fuel injector cleaner (2-4x the recommended dose) for one tank of fuel to see if that helps. If that doesn't fix the problem, the ignition coil would be the next thing I would suspect. Unfortunately, the fuel injector and fuel line are a single assembly that is a bit pricey... that would be the last item on my list to purchase.
      Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Thanks. Mileage is 13,910. Just added a half gallon of 92 octane and 2oz. of fuel injector cleaner. Going to run awhile I guess.

      Here is the link to my shared Google Drive folder for the C3: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Uc3fPpFMPFuy58F6JTHlX1cw1qAtmEtK?usp=sharing . You can find a copy of the factory service manual in there with all of the maintenance and troubleshooting details.
      Yamaha specifies the initial valve clearance check at 600 miles, and then again every 6000 miles. So, if your scoot has ~14K miles on it and hasn't been inspected or adjusted, then the valves are probably too tight (that's a BAD thing). If the engine is hard to start and stumbles a bit, then the intake valve is probably too tight and not closing completely. If you hear some popping or "backfiring" through the exhaust, then the exhaust valve is too tight. The exhaust is the bad one because hot combustion gases blowing past the valve seat can burn the valve edges and damage the cylinder head.
      The check/adjust procedure isn't difficult, but removing all of the plastics is a bit tedious. You can follow the instructions beginning on page 3-10 of the service manual. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
