One of the greatest songs off one of the greatest albums from one of the greatest bands ever. At their peak, it would be acceptable to think that Funkadelic really WERE from outer space.
I'm ashamed I've never seen or heard this...THANK YOU guys📣 Can't believe Clinton and Zappa didn't get together and do something together, would've been absolutely EPIC❗️❗️
PURE FUNK!! How about some Maggot Brain!! I'm trying to comment on this, and it is hard!! My eyes keep getting closer and further from the keyboard because my head not stop bobbing to the groove!! LOL. Excellent reaction, fellas!!
A Parliament Funkadelic show evolves its bad ass 3 piece blues, r&b horns, killer keys, deepest grooves, psychedelic space jams, great chants, pop songs, rock songs, ballads, they are the only band I've seen approach a Sun Ra performance who did the greatest musical performances on plane earth
I have been to hundreds and hundreds of concerts, all different types of genres at all types of venues, but P-Funk was by far the best show I have ever experienced. When the Mothership lands on stage........It's just a sensory overload in the best way and as they say "Ain't no party like a P-Funk Party, cuz a P-Funk Party don't stop."!
Parliament Funkadelic was mainstream underground. If you were cool or had cool friends, you knew both of them! You know of the genius of their created George Clinton. Universal studio was full time creative jam and recording in Detroit.
I love Parliament-Funkadelic, period, but two Funkadelic albums, in particular, really show off their blend of funk and and hard rock so well-- "Cosmic Slop" and "Standing On The Verge of Getting It On." Both albums should be heard in their entirety, and the grooves on them, and the guitar work, are unbelievable, just like in this concert!
Hell yea! Greatest band ever! I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of them until my mid 20’s! Probably cuz I grew up a suburban white kid lol. Now I own all of the original 12 Funkadelic records on vinyl, and working on collecting all the Parliament records🙌 Funk on brothers!
Watch this ENTIRE CONCERT! I play this cut for hardcore metal Heads, they are like, ‘WHO THE FUCK IS THAT?’ Michael Hampton in the Big Sombrero! You gotta check out ‘Comin’ round the Mountain’ of ‘Hardcore Jollies’ Garry Shider Diaper Man RIP, Glen Goines RIP. God I love this music. Play that shit LOUD! I wanna ride when the Mothership comes!
I lived in D.C. in the early 1970s, a period where the District was 70 percent African-American. It was a time that Parliament-Funkadelic saw Chocolate City as their spiritual home, despite having coalesced as an act in N.J. and Detroit. The city was still a very racially polarized place, and AM radio stations like the influential WOL held huge sway. But other than radio I remember promotion for non-mainstream bands like this being largely by word of mouth and posters on the street. Community colleges and smaller venues were the rule. That said, P-Funk was popular enough there to fill major arenas like the Capital Centre, home of the Washington Bullets. But breaking into the mainstream, no way. As tailored black soul acts from the Sixties began to give way to psychedelicized influences in the early ‘70s, groups originating out of Eastern High School and Howard University began to change the nature of the audience base.
Please react to every song from this show!!! My top 5 from this show are: 1. Dr. Funkenstein 2. Do That Stuff 3. Give Up The Funk 4. Swing Down Sweet Chariot 5. Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples
They are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 97! They were all masters of their craft. Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins always stood out. Oh and Prince inducted them, it's on TH-cam

(I’ll just leave it there)
Cordell Mosson bass, Bernie Worrell keys, Jerome Bigfoot Brailey drums, Garry Shider, Glenn Goins and Michael Hampton on guitars. The Horny Horns: Maceo Parker, Richard Griffith, Fred Wesley and Rick Gardner and all the singers already mentioned in another comment. If I remember it right the opening act was Bootsy's Rubber Band that had several of the Parliament Funkadelic musicians performing. So some of the took the stage twice that evening.
This is the music of my teen years during the 70s. It was kind of forbidden to us youngsters, but we loved it. It was a different sound. A lot of funk, rock, and soul. They always played in DC, and I've seen them several times. Eddie Murphy is going to portray George Clinton in a movie. Funkateer4Life🤗💃🎵
Bad-ass guitar playing! My first time hearing this song. I'm more of the... We Want The Funk & Flashlight type P-Funk songs. Very cool! Keep on rockin' fellas.
To my memory Parliament and Funkadeliç were one in same. Under the name Parliament profane language wasn't published. Under the name Funkadelic and a different record label the language wasn't so restricted.😊
...and that is: Mike Hampton ["Kidd Funkadelic"] (who took over for (the GENIUS!!) Eddie Hazel, the year prior!) on lead guitar! 🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥 [George never played guitar. **smh**]
Every couple years they invade the stage near the end of the Grammy's and everything goes nuts. Lots of other big name musicians all step up to get a shot at playing them. Not sure how far back, but for a while and not long ago.
I think Eddie Hazel was the gigantic sombrero? You need to check out “Maggot Brain” single and album. The playing of Eddie Hazel in that solo is gorgeous. George’s only instruction before he played it was “play like yo mama died”
@@dawsonraines It is Michael playing the lead but Eddie was on this tour and can be seen at 6:19 in the lower right corner of the frame. Watch the entire concert and you will see he is there.
Cosmic Slop is a Funkadelic thang. Lead guitar with the sombrero Michael Hampton, singer/guitar wearing the diaper Gary Shider, also seen Grady Thomas purple sheik outfit, Fuzzy Haskins first singer after guitar intro, Eddie Hazel third guitar player (lead guitarist on Maggot Brain), and singers Jeanette Washington (Parlet) and Dawn Silva (Brides of Funkenstein) towards the very end. George Clinton is not on stage during this song, he does not appear in the video, but that is probably him whistling into a mic off-stage.
Great reaction gentleman. Love me some Parliament is this post Bootsy area? Doesn’t matter still a great groove and fantastic musicians playing. Keep up the great work La/Che
The big hat guitarist is a then teenaged Michael Hampton. And that ain't George, he hasn't come out there yet. Gary Shider always led this song to open the concert
These guys ask if they ever got any awards? (Rock n Roll Hall of Fame...Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award☆)..at one point not knowing who was George Clinton? (Mike Hampton,Grady?).Also group has plenty of Gold/Platinum Records!!Guys got to do their homework!

Dang. Where was I when this was happening! Outrageous fire. Who was the diaper wearing guitarista? I'll be looking into Funkadelics. Thanks y'all, for sharing.
George Clinton did NOT make an appearance in this footage. The singer in the purple Arab outfit was Cool Cal Simon. An original member of the Do-wop singing group "THE PARLIAMENTS". As was the lead singer Clarence FUZZY Haskins. Original members Ray Davis and Grady Thomas also made late appearances but did not sing. The musical and lyrical genius in the diaper is Hall of Fame guitarist Gary Shider. Who along with The Legendary Keyboardist Bernie Worrell has written and recorded over 170 songs for the P-FUNK Empire. ( Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsy's Rubberband, Parlet, Brides Of Funkenstein, Jimi G. and The Tackheads, Mutiny, Eddie Hazel and Kingdom Come, Quasar, The Horny Horns, Bernie Worrell, Junie Morrison, Fuzzy Haskins, P-FUNK ALL STARS, And THE RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS first Album "FREAKY STYLEY "
You guys gotta do the Mothership Connection and Funkentelechy albums by Parliament. What can can you say about George Clinton? The dude led Parliament and Funkadelic and put out some crazy great stuff back in the 70's especially. Make sure you do "Get off your ass and jam" from 1975. The story behind the guitar playing on that one is crazy.
No, Billy Bass is not there- Almost certain Cordell "Boogie" Mosson is on bass. Don't believe Eddie Hazel is @ this show either- He didn't play bass- Michael Hampton is playing lead guitar.
Regarding Garry Shider( The man in the Diaper) as much as people talk about Clinton and Bootsy- Garry was crucial. He's been called the Nervous system of the P Funk. Pay Attention to P funk Videos with him aside from his vocals and guitar playing ( sound man slighted here on his solo ) he was the band leader on stage and in the studio

The late great Eddie Hazel. Just amazing.
No it is Michael Hampton.
I stand corrected. So this must be 1975 or later. I believe Eddie left the band in 73 or 74.

Saw my first of five Mothership landings in 1978 at the then Fabulous Forum in Inglewood CA! Never gets tired 👏🏾😎
