I have the the same version , mine is a 1997 , 24 years old and still going strong . The build quality is outstanding .They even used really good paint back then as mine will polish up just like new . Except for new plugs and wires , oil changes , and batteries all original still .
Dony....thanks for all the info you share...I have a Murray 19hp ....I cannot start or shot off with the ignition. I have to use a screw driver on solenoid to start .i have replaced the ignition switch, and solenoid. Thx
Wheel Horse made awesome machines.I have always liked them. The top dog 520-H has a P218G Onan with chrome air cleaner cover, and chrome exhaust guard. Im always on the lookout for one of these or a 520-H.Great review Don.
My grandma has one still running. She'd take my brother and I around for rides in a trailer. She has a new lawn mower but I still prefer the good old wheel horse even though it's missing a headlight and makes a gunshot noise when you turn it off
I have a wheel horse electro-12 with a cast iron Kohler engine. The original engine had snapped a rod andf cracked the block so I got a block on e-bay and rebuilt it. One of the windings for the module was open so I used points instead. Starts up in a second.''The chassis is the same as the one you just showed by toro. Solid cast iron frame and strong hydo drive. I may have a question soon about a hard to start homelite chainsaw. .
I'm in the process of buying a used Wheel Horse tractor from a mechanic. It doesn't cut grass but rather it's setup as a snow blower machine with a covered cab, wheel weights and chains with a snow blower attached in the front with a 47" width. Once up and down my long driveway and I'm back in the house again. I'm wondering if I'll need to do maintenance any differently with this as a dedicated snow machine besides #2 grease and non-ethanol gas? Couldn't get the exact model from where the machine was situated.
Is there suppose to be any belt guard coming off of the engine? It seems that your foot could almost get wound up in there. Other than that the tractor runs great, the engine on there seems better than the ones made today.
it sound realy good and seem to be built more quality id love to have one like that hydrolick deck to me means more quality and all the rest realy nice
I have acquired a NOMA A4616-000 and I have fixed pretty much all the bugs except that there is a whining sound from the rear (Hydro-static transmission). The drive belt seems to have a good tension but the mower will only move a couple of feet forwards and backwards, then it slips. Is there a way to check the oil and what kind would you suggest ? Thank you very much in advance.
In 1986, Onan Corporation became a fully owned subsidiary of the Cummins Engine Company. All Onan products are still manufactured in Minneapolis as part of the Cummins Power Generation group AFAIK.
Every walk behind snow blower and MOST lawn tractor patents are owned by MTD. They do the old "stamp em out and bolt em together" routine. I have a 416-H, 520-H and two C-101's. I wouldnt give them up for a JD (which I also own) or a newer Cub Cadet (which I also own). Nothing like them and parts are so interchangable the upkeep is easy as pie. I love em all, but Wheelhorses are where its at. I would only give them up for a Case 446 in great condtition. Even then I would think about it.
I have this same mower and ive been having trouble when mowing the blades want to stop rotating in regular length grass. my guess is it is the pto clutch going bad what are your thoughts?
the tractor is built in the USA but the motor is a Onan so isn't the motor made in japan?? i have a old Onan generator that was used back in the days by my grandfather and it was made in japan and still running today. love these motors.

Dony, you didn't say what you had to do to it.Sounds to me that the deck spindles are growlin and dragging a bit a old trick is to take wooden handle and put one end on the bearing and the other up to your ear and listen . I think the difference between a lawn tractor and a garden tractor are the size of the back wheels.
I am looking to buy one. How hard is it to replace belts and is the deck easy to remove to replace blades? I'm tired of replacing pulleys, belts and other parts in my MTD.
Great videos on lawn tractors. Watching all of them because you do such a great job and hope to get to transmissions at some point. Just one comment for the benefit of novices like me. I was in the high tech electronics industry for years and I've made thousands of presentations. I would often begin with a bit of humor asking my audience to warn me if I used too many TLAs. Sometimes we forget that we have rookies in the audience. I would actually use TLA a three letter acronym to describe one. So with that said what is a PTO ? I'm guessing it's some kind of output at the rear for running attachments. Power Turning Output?
That's the tractor/engine that had the valve seat come loose and destroy the block! I was able to have a friend of mine Tig weld it, and it does run, but it has low compression on that cylinder since the valve is so far in now! Good tractor, I would say not so good engine :/
onan kind of sucks, i fixed so many of these motors and common thing is their intakes get loose and carb is not as reliable as any other twin cyl motor also they like to surge up and down but i have seen them lasting over 6000 hours
Nice 416H. I have the 8 speed model made by Wheel Horse and a 520H. They are fantastic tractors. Check out my videos if you have a chance, I restore them. Good stuff.
my toro is junk never have another,,L just use it to pull yard roller around and wagon it will pull. koler 19 horse head bolts stretch the deck is junk falling apart,
Love those Wheel Horse tractors, probably some of the best garden tractors ever built.

Love Wheel Horse and Onan. Keep the Onan engine clean and grass free. Change the oil and filter regularly, and they last.
I just picked up the identical tractor at an estate sale. Looking forward to running her. Thanks for the video.

I have a 312-8 WH that is awesome. I slapped some Kenda Executioners on the rear with WW's and she will pull and push like there is no tomorrow.

what a good running tractor
I just found one of these and snagged it up

doncha' love it when people actually TAKE CARE of their things? you can beat on them all you want, but if you take care of it,it will last forever!
yes they are nice tractors
Those little machines last forever if taken care of.
it sound realy good and seem to be built more quality id love to have one like that hydrolick deck to me means more quality and all the rest realy nice
Nice little workhorse, the engine sounds happy :-)
Smashing vid :-)

How does one move this tractor when the engine is not running ?? A disengage rod of sorts Dony ???
There's a hydro static disengage rod on it, I forget where it is as I don't have it in the shop
@@donyboy73 Thank you for the response and a verification too. vf
Very nice machine indeed. Is ONAN still in business? I haven't seen one of them in years..
Dony, you didn't say what you had to do to it.Sounds to me that the deck spindles are growlin and dragging a bit a old trick is to take wooden handle and put one end on the bearing and the other up to your ear and listen . Wow that looks like its new! Nice vid
Nice tractor! They don't build them like this anymore.

Have you ever worked on a 211-5?

Power take off. It’s an external drive shaft that’s for attaching various implements
yes indeed, that thing is well built but it's not mine :(

Fantabulous
I really need a muffler for my P216 Onan engine and cannot find one. Any ideas where I can get one?
There's some on eBay I ordered one
yooooooo its donyboy
are you working on this for someone?
What size is the belt that drives the deck (Blades)?
Nice
I guess the saying, "they don't make them like they used to" applies here.
yes it's not mine
Nice!
Sweet tractor Dony. I'm with you I wish it were mine.O7OUT
How many cc's?
parts are super expensive for this engine
onan kind of sucks, i fixed so many of these motors and common thing is their intakes get loose and carb is not as reliable as any other twin cyl motor also they like to surge up and down but i have seen them lasting over 6000 hours

I have this tractor in a 1998. It is not a 98. The drive lever is in a different position. Very similar though.
