I just saw the movie yesterday (3-4-23) on the local L.A. sports channel. Great memories. I used to sit in the first row at the Olympic from 1966-1970 for wrestling and would go to boxing and roller derby once in a while. I got to see all the greats like Freddie Blassie, Mil Mascaras, The Destroyer, Lou Thesz, John Tolos, Bobo Brazil, Roddy Piper, Pedro Morales, etc.
@@comicsfix8460 The Olympic Auditorium wasn't called the Grand Olympic until sometime in the 80's after the new owner, Jack Needleham, bought it from the L.A. Athletic Club and kicked Eileen Eaton & Mike LeBell out. He remodeled the main floor and repainted the outside. He started his own boxing promotion. LeBell was forced to promote wrestling cards at the L.A. Sports Arena and Eaton retired from boxing promotions.
Excellent memories. Gene Aguilera has so many great memories of fighters from the Golden Age of Los Angeles boxing. How about a few more of these videos with Gene's recollections.
Hello, Recently my uncle Antonio "Tony" Rodriguez passed away and he told us he boxed at The Olympic on 18th and Grand in 1976 and it was televised. Would you know if those recordings are saved somewhere and how to access them? Thank you for your time.
