I can't express how happy it makes me that this video is here. The man playing Cousin Luther is my grandpa, Jack Logan. He passed away well over a decade ago. Memories, photographs and videos like this are all I have left of him. ❤
When my uncle was in WWII, in his barracks there were a lot of Southern boys who turned him on to country music via the Opry on Armed Forces Radio, and it was his first exposure to acts like Lonzo & Oscar, Roy Acuff and the gang. He became a lifelong fan, and when he was discharged he turned his sister (my mom) on to country and bluegrass, and she in turn was responsible for me liking it too. One of my uncle's favorite sayings was to quote the Duke of Paducah: "Take me back to the wagon boys, my shoes are a-killin' me!"
Lyrics: Down the road here from me stood an old hollow tree Where you lay down a dollar or two Go on round the bend come back again There's a jug full of that good ole mountain dew … Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew And them that refuse it are few I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug With that good ole mountain dew … Now Mr. Roosevelt told 'em just how he felt When he heard that the dry law 'd gone through If your liquors too red it'll swell up your head You better stick to that good ole mountain dew … Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew And them that refuse it are few I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug With that good ole mountain dew … The preacher rode by with his head hasted high Said his wife had been down with the flu He thought that I o'rt to sell him a quart Of my good ole mountain dew … Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew And them that refuse it are few I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug With that good ole mountain dew … Well my uncle Snort he's sawed off and short He measures four feet two But feels like a giant when you give him a pint Of that good old mountain dew … Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew And them that refuse it are few I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug With that good ole mountain dew
Did I see these guys in Deliverance? Just joshin. But Appalachians and Ozarkians, don't complain about yankee snobs stereotyping you when there was this.
This is a great song and these guys are great musicians, but they are way too corny. I feel like they’re actually making fun of mountain folk. This is the equivalent of black face for mountain people
Tim Smith No, they were mountain folks. When they were hired on the Grand Ole Opy, they were told that they were hired as a COMEDY ACT, and if they started singing serious, they would be FIRED ! They were really good singers and musicians . They were from Kentucky .

Spook Show 1993, What is that instrument called that your Grandpa is playing. I really loved his facial expressions in this number. Thanks
@@Eddie_Schantz
That instrument is called a Lap Steel Guitar.
@@Eddie_Schantz Ron 4578 was slightly off with his description of that instrument. It's a dobro, aka a resonator guitar. A lap steel is much smaller.
@@Ron-vq3zl Thanks for your response

They were the greatest back then for comedy and singing! So sad that noone today can match the talent that walked on that Rhineman Auditorium stage!
So this is why Mountain Dew attracts a certain type...
It Great to listening to and I love it
Great live performance people forget this was originally recorded in black and white that's how old this is but still sounds great as it did then
I love these guys.😂
Moonshine 😋
Lyrics:
Down the road here from me stood an old hollow tree
Where you lay down a dollar or two
Go on round the bend come back again
There's a jug full of that good ole mountain dew
… Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew
And them that refuse it are few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug
With that good ole mountain dew
… Now Mr. Roosevelt told 'em just how he felt
When he heard that the dry law 'd gone through
If your liquors too red it'll swell up your head
You better stick to that good ole mountain dew
… Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew
And them that refuse it are few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug
With that good ole mountain dew
… The preacher rode by with his head hasted high
Said his wife had been down with the flu
He thought that I o'rt to sell him a quart
Of my good ole mountain dew
… Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew
And them that refuse it are few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug
With that good ole mountain dew
… Well my uncle Snort he's sawed off and short
He measures four feet two
But feels like a giant when you give him a pint
Of that good old mountain dew
… Oh they call it that good ole mountain dew
And them that refuse it are few
I'll hush up my mug if you'll fill up my jug
With that good ole mountain dew
Nice
What's up with old Smokey's tongue at the 1:53 mark?? Lol looks like a little flirting going on with the lady behind Luther....

They were really good singers and musicians .
They were from Kentucky .
You also have to take into account the era they played in, also. Things were not as “politically correct”. This is just good old county comedy.
Linda Wolff/Kashmir27 Well said !
Lighten up. It's comedy.
Thanks for all the info guys. It put things in perspective for me. And I probably do need to lighten up a bit.
