You're an absolute legend. I literally tried almost every method available to get my crappy DELL G15 5510 to stop thermal throttling, I even put liquid metal on it which was barely keeping it below 95c now with my voltage offset to -100mv I can actually get back to enjoying gaming 🙃 😅
Thank you. I understand how you feel. Not being able to play a game at reasonable temperatures is a bummer especially when you paid a lot of money to do it. IMO the only way to fix the issue is to make machines thicker with an increase in heatsink size. Congrats on your new lows....👍
Just wanted to say thanks as I found your instructions to be the most easiest and logical to follow to unlock my BIOS. While I don't have a Dell G5, I used your instructions for my Alienware M15 R6 and successfully unlocked the CPU overclocking option on the latest BIOS for me to undervolt using ThrottleStop as before this was greyed out for me. Now my laptop runs much cooler and comfortably without compromising much of the performance in games so really pleased!

Hey what fields did you use when doing this with 1.18 BIOS? I'm on 1.18 I'm having a hard time knowing where to find them as I don't see the same things as the video. I don't see anything with CpuSetup to verify the right VarStoreID. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
For me it was just Setup on Dell G5 5587 latest bios

Guys, in Dell G5 5590 using commands "setup_var Setup 0x72D 0x01" and "setup_var Setup 0x9F8 0x01" I have enabled the Real Time Memory in XTU and now I can change the multiplier beyond 45X in core configs(I am using the Core i7 9750H, "Core" menu in XTU)
[UPDATE] Only im ThrottleStop I get 4,5 GHz in all cores, in XTU the overclock did not apply. @Meanpooh you are my hero! Thank you sooo much for teaching us!

setup_var Setup 0x5c4 0x0
Tap enter and:
setup_var Setup 0x660 0x0
Done! Worked for me with the bios 1.14

Only difference is for this laptop offsets are different:
CFG lock = 0x43
Overclocking lock = 0xDF.

I tried your method on a Dell inspiron 7506 with a Tigerlake i7 1165g7:
I managed to successfully change both variables to 0x0 as stated.
On throttlestop "unlock adjustable voltage" still greyed out, couldn't undervolt in the end.
I guess this time the lock is in the hardware level instead of the software level on older CPU (Bios update disabling undervolt after discovering the "Plundervolt" vulnerability)

finally done with my shjtty laptop, thank you so much for helping me undervolt my laptop. My laptop only have 8GB at first but than i upgrade it to 12Gb, the first step using bios backuptool kit 2.0 don't have 12Gb option and the 8Gb option don't have the overclocking or overclocking lock as we see in your video, only the 16Gb option have it.

great guide and works almost for all dell laptops (ofc you'll have to try and find the values for your model) dropped 10c on full load on my cpu.

@@guilhermemurari3995 0x3E is a name of variable. It is different on all laptops. You need to find and use the name of your own variable (4:30). Same for 0xDA. Try to use "Setup" instead of "CpuSetup"

@@Meanpooh Gave this a go on my G5 5500, but bailed at the last step. First I had a bitlocker problem, but got around this by finding and entering the code, but then when I read the setup_var CpuSetup 0x3E it returned the message back: "Expected a different size of the Setup variable (got 820 (0x334) bytes). Continue with care... Successfully opened "CpuSetup" from VSS (got 820 (0x344) bytes). OFFset 0x3e is: 0x01". So I chickened out and rebooted without changing anything. I'll do some more research I guess....(laptop burning my knees as I write this comment! lol...)

It says can’t find variable after I turn on grub
just want to say this still worked perfectly on my g5 5500 with a 1650ti and 10300h, now i can push my cpu to 4.2ghz all the time with no problems (ram still at multiplier 39 though becuase otherwise my chip gets to 60w)
Make sure bitlocker is disabled!

Aqui deu bom demais! Mas é o G5, acho que vale conferir se os valores do setup_var são os mesmos na bios do G3.
Dependendo tem que encontrar os parâmetros certos na hora de fazer.

@@trvphouse1227 I had the same issue. Make sure your are downloading the right IFR extractor. I downloaded the IFRExtractor that has the capitalized letters at the beginning and it worked.

No, it shouldn't. Although sometimes it can make finding the address a pain.

It's not supposed top do that. Maybe something went wrong during your input?

I was wondering if it would be possible to modify a precision m4800 bios to make it recognize a nvme drive, I've seen a work around for the optiplex 7020 mt and people successfully make the bios recognize the drive, maybe I could use your method along with the optiplex 7020 tutorial to achieve that result?
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I have a Dell G5 15 5500 and changed the values. They are both on 0x0 even after reset. Neither XTU nor Throttlestop will let me allow to change values. I also tired factory resetting the BIOS but that didn't work. I use BIOS version 1.7.1. What to do?
I noticed that when I re-export the BIOS and inspect the .FFS file the values are still on 0x01 (enabled). However, when I verify this with the grubx64, it shows they are on 0x00 (disabled). Maybe Windows added some patch to enable these settings upon boot? Would be horrific of course.
You might try to see if the Turbo Power Limits will work in Throttlestop. This will help get temps down by limiting power. You're not the first to run into the problem.
@@Meanpooh Thank you for your response! I probably can but I don't want to limit performance on my brand new 1 day old laptop. I bought it knowing it would be possible to mod it for undervolting. Do you possibly know what the problem could be? Hardware lock which isn't fixable in the bios? Error on my part? Other bios settings?
Update: I'm just dumb. Intel XTU still doesn't work, but throttlestop works now. I just forgot to enable it and thought it was greyed out because both programs were not working. I put -0.125 volt on the core and cache and called it a day for now. Thanks!

I'm debating on doing this tonight but concerned and don't want to mess anything up. Running Cyberpunk on an undervolted *GPU* 2070mq Dell G5 5500....

Thats pretty decent and don't want to mess anything up. Potentially I could save power and get even better thermals undervolting the cpu but I hear 5% of all i7 10750h will crash at -0.50v
If I do do it will Dell's usual power limits and everything work fine and keep the cpu at around 85 degrees but with potentially higher clocks?
My 16.1 HP Victus 13700HX laptop has 2x NVME 4.0 slots, but there is no VMD or RAID settings in the BIOS to raid the 2 NVME drives.
Is it possible to use similar BIOS modding tools to "unlock" VMD and RAID?? the 13700HX supports VMD and raid, its just that its not in the bios that HP has.
