A Bennett Buggy is a stripped down Model T pulled by a horse seen on the Canadian Prairies during the Great Depression. Named after the then Prime Minister of Canada, R. B. Bennett.
They were called Hoover wagons in the US.
For them who would like to know A Bennett buggy was a term used in Canada during the Great Depression to describe a car which had its engine, windows and sometimes frame work taken out and was pulled by a horse. In the United States, such vehicles were known as Hoover carts or Hoover wagons.

Scott, another magical episode blending Strong's Garage and Cold War Motors to witness the reinCARnation of your sweet T! After much, thought to be long dead highly skilled machine work including recasting Babbitt bearings, reconditioning a nearly 100 year old block, crankshaft, cylinder bores, rebuilding a flywheel magneto etc, etc the T lives with a new heart! I'm sure that Matt + Jim's highly sophisticated reconditioning mechanical rebuilding and transplant techniques would garner a sincere tip of the hat from Drs Christian Barnard, Robert Jarvik and Barney Clark for successfully giving a life extension to a 90 year old! Can't wait for the tire smoking 25 second quarter mile! Great series on the T! High desert Cheers!

This might be strange to follow but ....I watch on occasion guys from Ontario back country canoeing, they also express great appreciation to able to travel in their part of this awesome country in a way people have done in previous centuries. Different transportation but similar motivation. Keep on keeping on.
Nothing short of extraordinary from CWM! I’m grateful for the performance specs on the Model T which are virtually non-existent in 2023 as compared to Tom McCahill’s long forgotten era as a auto reviewer. Also grateful for Scott’s comments about his pursuit of old cars & gravel roads…touching and a reminder of how non existent each are becoming in our day. And any visit to Strong’s Garage is rich with visuals and commentary. Thank you for so much joy!

There are thousands of hours of black and white movies of the model T in the snow. Including Thomas Edison and Henry Ford camping in the winter.

3:15 You really have to put the 1/4 mile time into perspective to appreciate just how fast it really is. Whatever the number is, it is many, many times faster than you can walk and a lot less tiring. It's even faster than a horse walks. The only way to go faster than a Model T is to take the train. Only the train doesn't stop at your house.
It's like the first modems that operated at like 75 or 150 or later, 300, baud. It's slow as hell compared to today, but faster than getting in your car and driving or taking the bus to where the records are you need to look at.
The smile on Scott's face as the rad was being filled tells the whole story.... what a great bunch of guys!!!

Almost everybody's first car was a Model T. Either they bought one new or bought one second hand. My dad used to talk about them because when he was a kid in the late 1920's and early thirties you could take your pick of them in any junkyard just for the scrap price and with a little tinkering get it running. Many people had love affairs with them, one guy that lived in Peoria Heights Illinois couldn't bear the thought of his beloved T getting crushed during WW2 so he dug a pit in his backyard and buried it. The story came to light in the 1970's when a plumber run into it putting in a new sewer line and one of the old newspapers had covered it when he did it complete with pictures. needless to say when they dug it up there wasn't much left.

Hey Scott, just wanna say you guys are fortunate, blessed, to be up dere in the wilds of NW Canada where the roads are wide open. You can't cruise a 'T' in some of the craptastically overpopulated areas, like where I am, in the lower 48. Yeah, you guys have a great life turning wrenches on wrecks, makin em work and get whistled at too.
Sounds like you need to find a four door T for vintage chip runs.

Cool seeing g a group of buddies, making an old car more usable, and reliable can't wait for the next episode.
We enjoyed this episode very much. My wife's grandfather was very involved with the T club crowd, CCCA, Glidden Tours, etc., and she grew up around many a T restoration. So much so that when you fired up the new engine she replied, "Yep, that's the sound of a fresh T motor."
Her grandfather had a 1914 phaeton that he had "resto-modded" with hydraulic brakes and an overdrive. He was able to get it up to 55 on I-4 in order to take part in parades at Disney World.

I know there was an assembly plant in Winnipeg, which is still standing at 1181Portage Avenue and have heard there was one in Saskatchewan somewhere.

During the quarter mile run I fixed myself some dinner and came back just in time to see the T flash through the traps.
Just in the first few seconds of that new engine running you could hear how much quieter it was going to be.

I don't think Scott knows that a K&N air filter sticker adds 10hp.
The first major road trip in mine, after crawling around the yard in it, was a 110 mile round trip with no spare parts. Just put yer foot down and go . My T was rebuilt by me and ancillary help with new friends over a 14 year period. Last engine trouble I had was every valve from the exhaust on number 2 all the way thru 4 was warped. AND the car still ran and drove. LOL
I was out at the pick and pull down here in Nebraska getting some bits for my Corvair, and I'll be damned if they don't have a Kaiser like yours. Those are pretty sweet looking!
Hey Scott! I never thought I would be interested in model T's! Ever since I watched all the episodes of your T project You have a convert. I'm in my 70's so my interest in automobiles started in the 50's. The ancient technology of a 100 year old car didn't interest me back then. Your T is especially COOL! These cars are important history and now I appreciate that. How about a high performance T race car that you and Strong's could collaborate on.

You could hear the difference in the compression when you turned her over the first time on that new engine. The build up for each cylinder starts so much earlier than the old one and she fires with so much more purpose and oomph on each pot, without the rattles of the one that came out.
It will be a treat to see how the horsepower develops over the break-in period and the new standing quarter? I reckon it will easily get into the 20s and am picking a 28.2s time. It's easily noticed that you are now just speaking to the camera too, so that's just fantastic and although she's still a bit noisy from the road, the rumble-rash in the ears from driving the beasty any distance will not be overwhelming.....well, not to the same extent anyway!
I was surprised at how nimble the little car is around those potholes, Scott. She dodged them pretty easy and could teach my Triumph Stag a thing or two and save me the repair bills! I am rapt that the new engine has given the T a new lease on life and a much needed boost in the driveability from the trip enjoyment perspective. Maybe Laura will find it easier to drive and may actually enjoy a reprise of her review on the T....but maybe we wait until the interior is done and the road noise is a little more damped down by the new interior and she can get the full effect!
Either way, it sounds like a big improvement and with a more than 10% increase on her top speed (at time of recording), it bodes well for how well it will travel when everything has bedded in. I look forward to seeing the next instalment on this 97-year-old beauty!

@@MikeyMack303 OH yes, all from a long time ago. I think MATT's Dad and forefathers started way back when and collected and then trained Matt. Then Matt trained Jim in a partnership started long ago. A lot of time and Money invested-so now they are THE ones to go to for OLD cars in Canada.--that is my take.
But I would not trade SCOTT's abilities for all of that. Rich.
One of the unexpected things I found when driving around in a classic car is that they make people happy. I think that is a wonderful thing, spreading some happiness around. For some reason, it doesn't happen with my Corolla. The difference in the noise level with the new drive train is really noticeable. You can actually hear the engine over the rest of the mechanical noise and it sounds more powerful. Can't wait to see the new 1/4 mile run. Mind you, the first one was much better than I was expecting. Great video watching all you guys doing what you do. 😊👍

Train spotting was really cool. I have watched KCS roll through Joplin Missouri for 50 years, we see a lot of Canadian Pacific engines down here since the merger. That locomotive is painted in Southern Belle colors like the old KCS passenger train from the 30's and 40's.

A T may be slow, but it is a whole lot faster than a mule wagon!
One must remember, when that T was built, 35 mph was the speed limit on what few paved highways there were.

It's really something to see the bespoke Ford tech from these days, with the wild, tambourine magneto looking like something out of an industrial revolution factorium. my stupidly large tv finally accomplished its mission, it put me on the shop’s floor at strongs garage. and what a wonderful experience, for someone that has become jaded with post war automotive technology, now thrust into a world where everything is new ( just 100 years back of book) absolutely terrific experience, thanks Scott and everyone at strongs.

Yes! And, on top of all that...I liked Matt's 'straw boat' hat. To join him in spirit, I got mine out of the hat box and wore it while viewing the engine saga and ride home.
Congrats on this successful upgrade to the Model T. It was impressive to see Matt & Jim and you guys doing the removal & installation. I will enjoy seeing your footage of the tour with your T and the other pre-1932's. I saw a bit of a spoiler on Strong's Garage recent video, and I must say that you backed your T into a parking space across the street from Strong's, and placed it right between the lines on the pavement, like a Model T pro.
What a result Scott hats off to Strong's garage splendid effort by all ,loved every minute from start to finish.

Just finished a James Holland book taking a fresh look at the Normandy campaign. He figures one of the big advantages the Americans & Canadians had (that nobody really thinks about), was they grew up with cars. Majority of young guys in 1944 had probably driven a car, lots knew how to work on cars (as you would in the 30's/40's to keep them going) Teaching them to drive tanks or trucks, no big deal. When they broke in the field, lots knew how to fix them. The Germans, not so much, different culture. They obviously had cars (some great cars, years more advanced than ours & of course they didn't have Detroit supplying their army) but it wasn't like our North American car culture. It was the "T" that started it all, the first mass produced car for the common man. Thanks Henry, you old bugger....& he built & sold the "T" without the gov't shooting all the horses!
I have also heard that you could figure out what the German army was going to do next because they went "by the book". Americans and Canadians, not so much. You never knew what wild shit they were going to pull next. This drove the Germans crazy.
