How to connect Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor correctly

  • This video shows how the Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2 and simmilar pedals should be connected correctly to other pedals. The idea is to get the trigger signal from the cleanest possible signal and do the actual gating after all the noise has been added. To do this, all the noisy pedals like overdrives and distortion are connected in the send-receive loop.

    This is the correct setup, but if you have an fx loop, put the time/mod fx there and run the output of the NS2 to the amp input. (assuming you have all the gain pedals in the NS2 loop.) Remember, compressors and equalizers are also gain pedals.

      I have tried to connect this way from the beginning when I bought my NS-2 . As result - my Boss RV-6 is not functioning and the mute mode of NS-2 falls out (not muting at all). Where did I go wrong? Any suggestions? I simply don't get why it isn't working. Any tips?

    • @janivarsorby
      @janivarsorby  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PontLimon Make sure the RV-6 is last in the chain and after the NS-2. Unless you want to have gated reverb. Why the mute mode falls out I have no idea.

    • @PontLimon
      @PontLimon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janivarsorby It is just exactly like you say and my rv-6 is the only one in the chain of "time and space" effects So, actually, it is the only pedal between the "output"of ns-2 and "return" of the amp. So everything seem to be right, except the result. I guess there's something wrong with my amp and I simply should forget the 4 cables method and make the loop inside of the pedal board instead, just like it's explained in the video. Afterall it works fine that way. Thanks for your help (*_*) \m/

    If you only have the NS-2 then you would probably just connect it between the guitar and the amp. There is no need to use the send-receive loop in this case. If you really want to be advanced and your amp has a send-receive loop, you could use the 4-cable method.

    When you are using your amps distortion the best connection is this: from guitar to NS-2 Input, from NS-2 Send to amp Input, from amp loop Send to NS-2 Return, from NS-2 Output to amp loop Return. If your amp does not have an effects loop just plug the guitar to NS-2 Input and NS-2 Output to your amp.

    Damn I wish I would of watched this video before returning my ns2 to guitar center. I know there’s a lot of bad info out there these days from all the expert know it alls. I used their “X wiring” setup whereas guitar to ns2 input and send to all distortion pedals then into front of amp. Ns2 output to all time based fx then out time based to amp FXL
    amp FXL send back to ns2 return. Sounded ok except a super annoying volume swell that kept happening.

    I suppose the Digitech Whammy is best placed in front of the NS-2. If you use any kind of distortion/overdrive pedal I think it is more important if the Whammy is placed before or after that. None of the positions are "wrong", but will give different result.
