    The NS-2 for decades is one of those “it just works” pedals. Big fan of the NS-2 and the new NS-1X is a pretty cool update of it. Multiple ways to hook it up .. if ya hit and hold the pedal it will switch between gate and suppressor modes.

    I maintain that my NS-2 is the best pedal I own. I’m a massive fan of fuzz, octaves and crazy sounds but the pedal that’s improved my tone the most is the NS-2. Using the 4-cable method and all the noise is tamed and my sound is so crisp now.

    Great video! I'd like to ask a question! I am aware that there are various connections diagrams depending on the signal chain used ( no distorsion, only pedals distorsion, only amp distorsion, amp and pedal distorsion). Is it possible to use the ns with a preamp pedal placed in the return of an amp? The ns use the send and the return to kill the noise, so I was curious about the right connections to do in this case! With the amp gain only both the send and the return of the amp are used with the loop of the pedal, but with the return used with the preamp how should it be connected?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello @PatPosse ! This is a great video on both how to use and how to set up! I had a question through... I just bought the NS-2 yesterday. I have is all plugged in correctly and it seems to be working great. The thing I noticed though is there is zero noise when I am not playing the guitar. However when I start to play the guitar I can still hear the noise over the guitar distortion. Is this normal? I have it hooked up correctly using the send/return into my distortion pedals.

    • @PatPosse
      @PatPosse 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there! Yes, it's normal... what noise gate pedals do is "close the gate" once the bigger signal (the guitar one over the added noise) is done coming through. But also, when it opens ALL the signal (noise included) comes through. It shouldn't be that noisy though... There's something on your signal that is adding too much noise.

    To Clarify for Method 3, you said the Send from the NS2 pedal goes to the distortion pedals. You then said the Send goes to the effects loop. Did you mean to say the Output from the NS2 pedal goes to the distortion pedals and the Send from the NS2 goes to the Return of the effects loop? Thx

    On the 3rd method you say to run the SEND on the pedal to the input on the front of the amp, then you say to run the SEND on the pedal to the return on the amp fx loop in the back. You don’t say where the OUTPUT on the pedal goes.

    • @PatPosse

      Sorry bro, I must have missed that... I recorded this a while back and in a rush. I think it shows... Anyhow, check the diagram at the end of the video. You can see all 3 methods there!

    Hey Pat, great video! Have one question. I just bought this pedal and I’m using it on an old fender tube amp that has no FX loop. The pedal does a great job of cleaning up the noise from the pedals I use. As soon as I hit a note I get a slight static noise until the note totally decays and then it’s quiet again. Is this the way these pedals? Thanks

    • @PatPosse
      @PatPosse 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That might be because of the way you have it set up. Sounds like there’s a lot of static already (might be a ground issue or your guitar not going in through the input) and the pedal is killing all the sound muting it but as soon as you hit the note, the gate opens and it lets the static back in until it kills it. Maybe try letting more of the noise in so it’s more natural sounding or check to see what’s adding that extra noise. (It could be a cable as well).
      Hope this helps!

      @@PatPosse Pat, I’m thinking there may be an issue with the NS 2 pedal. I disconnected all the pedals and just plugged the guitar into the input side of the NS then output directly to the amp. I tried this with two different amps, three different guitars and different cables and it still did the same thing. I’m lost at this point.

    Is it worth of buying if you have bad cable?

    • @PatPosse
      @PatPosse 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It will help get rid of cable noise and interference. But it’ll also drown your tone a bit by doing so because you’ll have to push the threshold and decay a lot. Definitely worth it but consider getting better cables soon 😉
