My pops died in 2020 and left me his Corolla. It took me about a year for me to have the courage to drive it but now I couldn’t imagine myself without it. It’s a 25 year old car but I still try to preserve it and update it the best way that I can. It surely isn’t the prettiest car but I drive it with pride.
I finally got my truck did it on my own. Just like my grandpa’s the one he would take me every where. Also still got my guitar just gave it to my son. Most girls want diamonds and purses. I just wanted that truck. Love you Papa 🙏🏽💜 Thank God you raised me.
My dad just passed away two days ago. I bursted out in tears the first 30 seconds. My mom, dad, and i drove our truck out to Tennessee last year for spring break. Don't know why I came across this song but sense it's called "I hold on" it was a message from my dad telling me to "hold on" and things will eventually be better.

I remember driving up to Louisiana to get it and the entire way there all I could think was "man we could sell it and I can put a down payment on a new truck", boy was I in for a surprise. The truck wasn't in the best condition, but it was a real beauty. As soon as I sat I the drivers seat, I knew I couldn't sell it. Sometimes I just sit in it and just think about everything I never got to tell him and just talk out loud as if he was sitting next to me. Now 7 months later the truck still smells just like him. Every time this song comes on it reminds me of the first time I got in that truck. Every emotion I was feeling and every chill that went up my spine. That truck is my pride and joy and ill hold onto it for as long as his memory is with me. Rest in paradise my Free Bird.

i never paid much attention to modern country music but i kinda fell into it by accident driving to a connecticut tigers baseball game this summer. my CD player broke down and all I could get was a country station and classic rock. i'm sick of led zeppelin and aerosmith so i played the country station all summer. i'm really starting to dig some of this stuff. this song was a favorite. i didn't even know the artist. i ilke that most country songs are positive. most rock these days is so depressing.
similar thing happened to me. I'm Italian and I had never heard country music. One day my wife's nephew introduced me to a man called Brad Paisley. He told me paisley was a pretty good guitar player and he played me his song 'American Saturday Night' (that I really loved). since then I started buying Paisley's albums and then I discovered some other great guys: Alan Jackson, George Strait and Dierks Bentley. Dierks Bentley is, with Paisley, my favourite. his music is never the same but also never bad. he's put out my favourite album ever in 2010, called Up on the Ridge. I am amazed everytime I listen to that album: it's acoustic rock mixed with Irish music and bluegrass and country. even his last one, Riser, is. feel free to try these two albums and let me know what you think about them. P.S. If there's some good artist you've heard on your country station tell me!
I was big into rock growing up, and didn't have much use for country. Now that I'm an adult I've been listening to country for years. It is a better quality of music, with a better message.
Pretty much the same truck as me.. And almost the same story behind why I still have my old truck even though i have a brand new truck, I could easily sell it for $500-$1000 And get it out of my way, But it's the memories, when I fire up that old V8 I hear all the laughs, I remember the road trip me And my bro went on. I remember the day he was sent overseas, And he handed me the keys And said "look after her until I'm back" I remember that day we got the letter, stating he wasn't coming home. And I drove that truck miles after miles, wishing he was there.. I remember driving that old truck to his final resting place. Where I realized, I'd never get rid of it, because this truck was now my brother. And you can't replace a brother.
Definitely keep her, sorry for your loss. I've got an old 81 Ford I keep around, has that old In line 6. It was the only thing my papaw ever bought new, only has 92k miles, still blows Cold AC. I can remember riding with mamaw too deliver eggs too the local schools in it..I would not sell that truck for a million.
My Grandpa passed in February. I’d listened to this song before, but now it reminds me of him. He had a 2011 Chevy Silverado. He, Dad, and I, put so many miles on that truck: we drove it up and down the Midwest, hauling parts for our various projects. I used this song in the video I made for his funeral. The line “She’s still here now, he’s gone” brings tears every time I hear it. I’d give a lot to have one more trip with him. But, as the song says, “I hold on”.

Not exaggerating, it's one of the best country songs ever! He's built up quite a few hits that are absolutely quality material! When he first came on the seen, I think it was every mile a memory, I thought, yep this is high quality music and some 14 years later, still making great music. He's got a gift for sure. This song is very special for me. Two years ago when we were in West Africa, our 18-year old son experienced brain shunt failure. (He is fine now.) He and his Dad flew back to Hopkins for emergency surgery while I remained in Africa with my 86-year old mother-in-law. I love this song so much because it is exactly how I feel about my two trucks. My Chevy is the first rig my dad and I worked on together and what he taught me to drive in. I absolutely hate working on Fords but I hold onto my ranger because its the only thing I got of my own that belonged to my granddad. Its something I can use any day and always keep him near me. He was the only person who would ever sit down and just listen to me and help me with my problems and treat me like an adult growing up. He meant more to me then the world and having lost him has hurt and still hurts more then anything I have ever been through. No physical pain has ever compared to the pain of him no longer being in my life and this truck is the only thing that helps it.

RIP my 2002 F250 I got in 2013 I slept in that truck when I didn’t have where to live, it helped me and my family move multiple occasions it take care of me so long I took care of it. Big wide truck that bounced when it breaked. It’s the truck my dad claimed he wanted when I was 14 in 2002 but we couldn’t afford it then. Drove so many miles from Houston to Austin and even a few times to Tampa 19 hour drives in the rain during storms that bad boy just got it done. I was that skinny kid in his twenties who didn’t have a GF because I looked like not much, incomplete, zero promise, it didn’t matter that truck worked alongside me as I earned my paychecks and we sat at the park at night after soccer games just jamming to music by ourselves in the parking lot 🦾🐍

My husband bought a Chevy Silverado brand new in 2003. It’s not an old vintage but he’s been driving that truck since 16 years and it’s not so pretty anymore but the memories we have in that truck are priceless. Pretty much the same truck as me.. And almost the same story behind why I still have my old truck even though i have a brand new truck, I could easily sell it for $500-$1000 And get it out of my way, But it's the memories, when I fire up that old V8 I hear all the laughs, I remember the road trip me And my bro went on. I remember the day he was sent overseas, And he handed me the keys And said "look after her until I'm back" I remember that day we got the letter, stating he wasn't coming home. And I drove that truck miles after miles, wishing he was there.. I remember driving that old truck to his final resting place. Where I realized, I'd never get rid of it, because this truck was now my brother. And you can't replace a brother.

I've got an old 81 Ford I keep around, has that old In line 6. It was the only thing my papaw ever bought new, only has 92k miles, still blows Cold AC. I can remember riding with mamaw too deliver eggs too the local schools in it..I would not sell that truck for a million.

My Grandpa passed in February. I’d listened to this song before, but now it reminds me of him. He had a 2011 Chevy Silverado. He, Dad, and I, put so many miles on that truck: we drove it up and down the Midwest, hauling parts for our various projects. I used this song in the video I made for his funeral. The line “She’s still here now, he’s gone” brings tears every time I hear it.
I’d give a lot to have one more trip with him. But, as the song says, “I hold on”.
I discovered this song around the time my dad passed away, this song gave me power to continue. I may change to become the man I am suppose to be but I hold on to every memory I have of him. I miss you dad.

Not exaggerating, it's one of the best country songs ever! He's built up quite a few hits that are absolutely quality material! When he first came on the seen, I think it was every mile a memory, I thought, yep this is high quality music and some 14 years later, still making great music. He's got a gift for sure. This song is very special for me. Two years ago when we were in West Africa, our 18-year old son experienced brain shunt failure. (He is fine now.) He and his Dad flew back to Hopkins for emergency surgery while I remained in Africa with my 86-year old mother-in-law. I know I wore this song out, and it never ceased to give me strength to hold on. Thank you so much.

I love this song so much because it is exactly how I feel about my two trucks. My Chevy is the first rig my dad and I worked on together and what he taught me to drive in. I absolutely hate working on Fords but I hold onto my ranger because its the only thing I got of my own that belonged to my granddad. Its something I can use any day and always keep him near me. He was the only person who would ever sit down and just listen to me and help me with my problems and treat me like an adult growing up. He meant more to me then the world and having lost him has hurt and still hurts more then anything I have ever been through. No physical pain has ever compared to the pain of him no longer being in my life and this truck is the only thing that helps it.
I'm actually the way you are with your grandfather, but with my old dog. I still hear her in my pickup once in a while, howling like she always would. One day I swear I felt her breath on my hand. I sure as hell miss her, but I absolutely love thinking about our good times, even if it brings a tear to my eye!

This song makes me clench my jaw and make sure no tear materializes in my eyes. RIP my 2002 F250 I got in 2013 I slept in that truck when I didn’t have where to live, it helped me and my family move multiple occasions it take care of me so long I took care of it. Big wide truck that bounced when it breaked. It’s the truck my dad claimed he wanted when I was 14 in 2002 but we couldn’t afford it then.
Drove so many miles from Houston to Austin and even a few times to Tampa 19 hour drives in the rain during storms that bad boy just got it done. I was that skinny kid in his twenties who didn’t have a GF because I looked like not much, incomplete, zero promise, it didn’t matter that truck worked alongside me as I earned my paychecks and we sat at the park at night after soccer games just jamming to music by ourselves in the parking lot 🦾🐍
This song has a quality that is missing in a lot of modern country. Aside from the brilliant inspirational lyrics, it is also just a great studio performance. Every instrument on this recording is played with loads of soul. It's a subtle thing that maybe only other musicians will notice, but it makes a world of difference to the feel of the song overall.

My husband bought a Chevy Silverado brand new in 2003. It’s not an old vintage but he’s been driving that truck since 16 years and it’s not so pretty anymore but the memories we have in that truck are priceless. My son was still in a car seat in the back and now he’ll be a sophomore in college. We moved from AZ. To TN. And drive the truck all the way there. No matter it broke down in flagstaff lol but we got it fixed up and made it! This song hits the nail right on the head for us.
