You normally do not have to bleed the brakes as long as you do not remove the caliper from the vehicle. Once you do that, you induce air into the system and at that point, the brakes must be bled.
In the video we show you how to clean the brake pad mounting area with a wire brush. This will help to keep the brake pads from hanging up and enable them to wear evenly.

so i have a 2007 version, and the clips that hold the brake pad in place are on the pads, and need to be swapped preferably for new ones. only thing i seen that was missing.
You guys do a good job showing the do-it-yourselfers. You don't use the ceramic lubricant for the hardware that goes on the bracket where the pads slide?
What about greasing the bearings? I had to do that on another vehicle when I changed the rotors. Also is this a 4x4? I have the same Durango full time 4 wheel drive. Is the procedure any different?
what are the best pads for a dodge durango 2007 4wd.and 8cyl? what tipe? and if the brakes in from are small ?or bigger in the back?..I am confused...some people said small pads in from and others bigger..or bigger in from and smal in the back..thanks
It should be the same or a fairly similar procedure. We nice brake pad and rotor kits on our website for all kinds of different vehicles. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Per factory manual, you're suppose to back off the bleed screw a little when compressing the caliper. If you don't, you should open up your master cylinder for the fluid to back up. Also, you should grease the pins and the metal brackets with high temp grease.
Do you ever put any lube on those channels you cleaned with the wire brush? I've been reading that thus helps the smoothness of the travel of the pad and reduces noise?
They may be similar to the fronts. You "might" need a special tool to spin the rear calipers in if they do not compress with a C-Clamp like the fronts do. We sell the Haynes manuals on our website 1aauto.com that would tell you how to service them. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
When reseating the brake piston before installing the new pads, is it possible to seat them too far, (too deep)? BTW, I need a new window regulator for my 99 Durango. Checked your website, looks like I’ll be ordering from 1aauto :-)
Done many brakes, but I watched this to see where the wierd little clips go that were in my box of pads and the ones in the video don't seem to employ these unless it's the wear indicator but then why is there a bag of a dozen in the package of pads?
My brother in law was supposed to help me do the brakes on my wife's car, first time I've ever done brakes...I feel confident though after watching this that I can do them. my new pads came with new clips, do the old ones just pop off and new ones pop on?
+James Strawser Yeah, the old ones should pop right off the caliper. Be sure to use a wire brush to clean where they sit on the calipers thoroughly, then apply a little bit of brake grease to them before installing the pads. Thank you for watching. Please let us know how the repair comes out! For anyone else who might be doing this job, we carry the parts shown in the video on our website. Order from us and we'll cover the shipping. Hi Bill, You can put some anti-squeal lube on the back of the pads to help eliminate any possible squealing noises when you use the brakes. We offer some great prices on our brake pad and rotor kits available on our website 1aauto.com 888-844-3393 Hope this helps you out.
had my 04 durango a few yrs now.my first large suv.and i fiiinally realized something...this think does not have any front coil springs.the entire weight of the front is held up by the shocks
Ive got on 07 Durango and my breaks pad clips look nothing like this. And you dont need a c- clamp to do your breaks. And always use a rubber mallet with a block of wood to not damage anything

is it the same way for the back brakes as well
Thanks i had problems wit front ones and i found u thank u mannn
The Journey is based off of a minivan and the Durango is based off of a truck platform so the brakes will be different.
What about greasing the bearings? I had to do that on another vehicle when I changed the rotors. Also is this a 4x4? I have the same Durango full time 4 wheel drive. Is the procedure any different?
Is there anything significantly different when replacing the pads on the rear? Thanks for the frat video
Thank you! very helpful!

I changed my front brakes on a 2005 dodge durango, still making a grinding noise when breaks applied. Rotors look good. Any idea..? Thanks

Is a dust mask required when doing this job?
do you happen to know the torque spec for the 13mm bolts?
Would the change be much different if the Durango is 4WD?

You can put a little anti-seize on them, it won't hurt anything. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
You can't really collapse the caliper to far. It will stop once it's fully collapsed. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

what about the extra oil that you push by using the c clam?
For the 4wd vehicles, the bearings are sealed so there is no way to repack them.
The "slides" didn't require to be re-greased?
do you have to repack the bearings?
I love u! #pause. Today I appreciate the Internet! #needed

Or a double sided bolt with the pad holder still on. Stick bolt through nuts and use bolt to push rotor off
You don't have to bleed the brakes after you are done ?
Appreciate the helpful video.
thanks for the video. my break light is still on how do I reset that?
+dwight solis It might reset after a few miles of driving.
It will end up back in the brake reservoir.
do you have to open the brake resivor before doing the breaks?
+Robert Alexander You can loosen the cap if you want to, but it's not necessary. Thanks for watching 1aauto.com
