52 year old Baseball collector only here. I’ve laughed for years on what people are paying for single A MLB prospects that have done absolutely nothing so far. Some are going for 4 and 5 digits. You can buy a 2009 Bowman Chrome Refractor auto in high grade for like a grand or less of a first ballot hall of famer like Freddie Freeman. Modern cards are like speculative tech stock that rarely pans out. Vintage and future HOF’ers are where the smart moneys at in baseball - that’s blue chip stock. Even future stars like Bobby Witt Jr and Gunnar Henderson are overpriced. No way their 1st bowman autos should be going for more than a veteran future HOF’er.
To use a pitcher as an example - take Paul Skenes. His rookie refractor autos are going for a grand or more in like PSA 9 grade. I saw a raw gold wave 2024 auto just did $5k. You can buy the best rookie cards of Greinke, Verlander and Scherzer (3 future HOF’es) for that and still have plenty of money left over. Will Skenes have the career of any of those guys? Maybe, future looks bright, but my money and common sense would say probably not. You’ll be able to buy these same Skenes cards for a fraction of the price in 10 years. Anyone buying Skenes right now to hold, thinking that $5k card is going to be $10k in 5 years, are missing brain cells.
Very nice point, but in our day and age, people looooove shiny things in Gem mint slabs. It's like going to the car dealership and getting upsold into the flashier model.

You litterally have to find a sucker to buy esp if you pay BIN price.. taxes also hurt. I feel like only 5%-10% is actually makinh money via ebay, even at card shows folks lose out big

You're making this way more complicated than it actually is. It's one big cycle: It's all about the hype and who can't afford it. Everyone wants the top names, but a lot of people don't have the money for the most expensive cards. Instead, they buy up all the cards for the rookies and new guys because it's what all the hype is about. Those rookie cards skyrocket and the more established legend cards start to fall. The people who do have money don't really care about any of that. They're in it to make more money, so they start buying up the cards with a lot of hype in hopes of making a bigger profit. Then, everyone else who bought the hyped-up cards finds out that the hype wasn't real and starts scrambling to buy the cards for the actual legendary players, sending the values of those cards through the roof. The rich guys now have their own cards that are highly sought-after, so they jack the price up there too. It happens every few years: new guys come along, the hyped cards go through the roof, and eventually everything crashes down. See the 90s inserts or Brady's cards for examples. It's just like a wave: all the sand gets pushed onto the beach, and then the tide takes most of it back out. The sand that remains is the true legends, and everything else is temporary.
I’m one of those guys that purchased a bunch of Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Manning, Payton, Jordan, LeBron cards 20-25 years ago. Let them sit and now grading some and keeping some. Also finding a bunch of Brady cards has been as who thought a 5th round backup quarterback would be worth anything has been fun. Classic example of what have you done for me lately. People want that impulse purchase, especially when they are shiny slabbed cards. Sam Darnold would have made you money thos year. I think he was the play before the NFL season.
Yea pretty legit. If I had to choose an order of what to grade and sell before next season it would be penix Caleb maybe Drake. Prob not Jayden or Bo as already too high and entering playoffs. Problem is playoffs next week and not even 1 psa graded prizm card of theirs on eBay. Sad. Pathetic. And yea LeBron just had 40 again. So what if ant or Victor's row wins some championships n move to the goat row on the right? Like 10 years later or end if career the prices will rise I believe
A lot of rookie prospect cards have a baked in value of them already being in the HOF and being a all time GOAT and if not then prices fall and even if they are the best of all time you can still see the prices low if overprinted ect.
It won’t matter. Tim Duncan won multiple championships and no one cares. No one cares about small market teams….. He would have to go to the Lakers for the prices to go up.
@jamesesslinger1976 If ant wins 2 championships my numbered rookie cards are gunns increase. They already have. He's only 23. Yes high pop fomo cards will decrease but my aren't. I already could sell at 30% increase
wembys base prizm rc psa10 is already a pop of 24k+. probably going to need to own some rare stuff. the thing is, his prices started off already astronomical. at least anthony edwards hype was minimal. definitely has some room there if you were in early.
Yes and no. For instance, a Caleb Williams Donruss Rated Rookie Silver Press Proof out of /100 will go around $100-125. Baked in price as Bryce Young’s from last year recently sold for $8.50. However, Mahomes is around $1,700. So Caleb has some baked in but if he won a Super Bowl, probably looking at a $500 card so room to still grow and not a completely baked in cost currently.

you have better investment on buying unopened vintage toys than sportscards
Only invest in what you are passionate about and have knowledge with is my position
We disagree a ton but you are absolutely right!
@@Big_Mac_Boy most vintage toys are worth money especially transformers, heman and tmnt
I was just thinking where all these junk slabs will be in 5 years…
Right next to 1988 donruss cards 😂
Wal--Mart dollar bin
They literally just sit....
Most of them will be that is for sure.
Caitlin clark and WNBA this year
Yeah Caitlin Clark is good but a lot of her stuff is a bit high. That’s for sure.
All I heard is buy a hobby box for 900 or more
I'm not the one saying that lol
Erik jabs got married and bought baseball cards on his honeymoon
Nice, good for him haha haven't heard of him
@SCVSportsCards Jabs family
Classic example of what have you done for me lately. People want that impulse purchase, especially when they are shiny slabbed cards.
Sam Darnold would have made you money thos year. I think he was the play before the NFL season.
For real, Darnold has been money.
This is all facts 💯
Thank you!
TLaw took me out on a stretcher 😢
Same here, I lost 18K on one of his cards!
Stop buying modern LMAOO buy vintage
Yeah it is definitely the smarter idea. Long term.
Buy high sell low
lol
No watch if there’s no robe😝😜. Just messing with you good video, bud.
Haha thank you
Yea pretty legit. I don’t like him as much as I used to but he gets an almost triple double daily so anyone that says he sucks is just not good with their eyes. NBA might be a dead sport soon if not already. NFL is like 10x the watching and betting. I bet huge nba changes come soon 😅😅😅
Yeah for sure, it is always tough to know and tell with these guys.
SCV DO YOU THINK CAITLIN CLARK, JUJU WATKINS,PAIGE BUECHERS CARDS ARE GOOD BUYS FOR SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, OR A LONG HOLD FOR INV. PURPOSES??? PATRICK 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
@@patrickmarasco9956 he’s not going to give you card investment advice bro.
I’ll get this in a q and a!
This is why pokemon is better
pokemon is better i almost made 200 dollars on a pokemon card
Yeah pikachu is not gonna tear it’s acl
Sealed pokemon does seem to go up over time. I would be careful of thinking this bull market will last forever.
I'm not into it personally but if you are that is great.
Can you please please cover the black 1/1 finite mania bullshit that’s going on…literally seeing people post player like marquis goodwin, and Kevin white and saying captions like “only trading for other finites”, or “offer up”, and imo I just think black finates are not iconic.
There are certain panini cards I think their 1/1 will be iconic but to say any specific panini product across the board is going to be considered super collectible I think is Tom foolery.
Pacific/Donruss/Playoff 1/1 are not worth jack shit, what makes folk think all of the sudden a 6th year Calvin Ridley card is going to hold any value pending panini losing the license?
Logic would say, buy old superfractors bcuz that’s what will be in our faces, not the 10 year short lived panini era.
Yeah, I’ll drop a full video on this. Thanks, I share your same sentiment on this. Look out for the video!
NO cards EVER go to zero. Stop being so dramatic.
😆 🤣
they are no one ever get super lucky on sports cards in a few years people wont be buying sports cards
For all practical purposes, most cards in the past 40 years have gone to zero.
Mac Jones Donruss PSA 10 was 3,000 dollars, it ent down to 11 dollars. That encapsulates " going to 0".
@SCVSportsCards someone was still willing to pay $11. Just because someone overpaid doesn't mean there isn't value
why are all of the commenters old heads
well haskins is dead..
So is Panini......
