Yeah but I'm taking my flying boat to the skies. There is an fixed amount of time where a car flying in the air is cool and it's perportional to the force used by land speed in lift off. Skyships and even sky boats are where it's at. Hell, even space knows sails are cool. I won't say no to a flying car but if I can bring a Schooner to the air. I will with the Jolly Roger in tow because sky crime is cool and needs more class brought to it

On a serious note - new technology always comes with new problems and restrictions. The automobile changed city planning forever, making it indispensable to have a car or use public transport if you hope to lead a life that is within a "new normal". The flying ones (if they ever appear) will probably create a huge demand (and then legal obligation) in shit like AI controls with distance checking, impact-proof windows, and further restriction of walking spaces due to danger that they would pose. All of these will take a toll on both the wallets and the freedoms of everyone, all for the luxury of parking your car on the roof and reduction in traffic jams.

Domestic flights aren't going to go anywhere, because not everyone will be able to afford a flying car, and because it will be less expensive and efficient to take a flying bus/airplane than to drive by yourself. Oh, and while you're at it, add to the possible negative consequences an expansion of air traffic control, because no one will let millions of flying vehicles roam around unchecked.

I dunno, I've never much cared about the idea of flying cars. I've always more wanted sci-fi fantasy airships.... They feel like they'd be more like.... feasible anyway, since they'd probably be specifically for highly trained professionals being used in militaries or as ferries.
The logistics of licensing people for flight let alone organized flight paths in a 3D space within current infrastructure would be a nightmare. We're better off without it IMO.
