jokes aside I really love the heart and passion Joe's got for not only 8½ but the art of cinema and its creation. the way he's describing all these movies is so honest and I'm like, "yeah, you've kinda nailed it really." this is a joyous video. I would gladly watch a deep dive analysis of each one of his favourite movies it meant more passion like this (and I would NOT get bored. are you kidding? this was glorious)

Just got done watching The Pacific and wanted to say what a great job you all did on that. I don’t want to call it a show because that would seem disrespectful. The scene where you ordered a strike on the hut and repelled a charge was really well done. The scene with the dying Japanese woman was incredible acting.
I don’t know how I missed this when it came out 😭 it literally gives me life knowing that you still have cardboard Ben. Besides that, though, super happy this was made and that I found it. I LOVE going on and on about stuff like this, but nobody wants to listen to me, so hearing one of my favorite actors talk about it for 16 minutes makes me day. So thank you, sorry I’m 2 months late.
Joooe Portrait of a Lady on Fire so deserves that spot!! It's a masterful take on the relation between the viewer and the subject - that's what film is all about! And it also succeeds in portraying female sexuality without it being objectifying nor having the tacky conclusion "man=bad"; because it /leans into/ the complexity of power dynamics. Soooooo it is a great take on how to subvert the male gaze- the fact that it landed above Rear Window is astonishing from a feminist film perspective! and I can go on but I really didn't start writing this to criticize you hahaha I just love that movie so much for what it does from an aesthetic point of view Great video, I guess I'll watch 8 1/2 to see if I regret writing this! 😅

I'm not a cinephile or anything like that, but I understand where he's coming from. Joe, being an actor, loves these kinds of films because he's studied them, he has experience in the field. I myself am more into music, so that's what I can relate to. For example, I enjoy the work of Frank Zappa. Most people will not, because his approach to songs and albums was completely out of the ordinary. He composed these complex instrumental pieces and rock operas, and most of the time, his lyrics were complete satire. However, someone who is a musician will appreciate it, because it's an experience rather than just a song. They will appreciate the complexity, because they play the music instead of just listening. I suppose it's the same way with film. The more you act in different movies, the more you begin to appreciate the masterpieces that maybe aren't as accessible to the average viewer.
Imo, one of the biggest problems is that the final list is based on the number of mentions a movie gets rather than how any of these critics would actually rank the movie. If each list submitted was ranked from 1 to 10 points, the final list would be a more accurate reflection of each movie's greatness. I feel like nobody who had Jeanne Dielman on their list would've placed it at #1 under such a points-based ranking system. With that kind of ranking system, you'd probably still have Jeanne Dielman in the top 25 (or maybe even top 10) on the final list (which I'm okay with), but certainly not at #1 (which I think is ridiculous). You'd probably also end up with a list where Fellini, Kurosawa, Bergman, Scorsese, Murnau, and Ford are higher.
I had a weird dream recently where it was the Addams Family Musical (the one with Nathan lane and Bebe Neuwirth) but instead of Bebe it was Joe as Morticia and he did great and looked fucking amazing in the iconic dress. Joe if you see this, you HAVE get a Morticia Addams dress and make a video about it.
