  • This short video shows you how to access the Galveston - Bolivar Ferry from Galveston Island to the Bolivar Peninsula in Texas. For those who have never been, it shows you how to access the Ferry, access Crystal Beach and drive along the 7 mile stretch. It gives you a high level overview of the Ferry ride and the beach area on the Peninsula.
The trip on the ferry lasts about 18-22 minutes on average. The Galveston Ferry provides updates on wait times and service. Realize weather conditions can impact the Ferry operation. Busy weekends could extend the wait to access the ferry over multiple hours. Galveston Ferry provides updates for wait times on Twitter (now X). View their profile for updated information.
The trip length is approximately 2.7 miles. It takes 9-10 minutes to load the Ferry. The free Ferry service is provided by the TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation).
The information provided in this video and the conditions only reflect the existing conditions when this video was filmed. For more information, visit TxDOT's ferry information page.
When driving on Crystal Beach, you must have a beach parking permit to park on the beach and camp overnight. These can be seen in the video.
If you want to sit down and have a nice seafood, lunch, or dinner, may we suggest the Stingaree Restaurant and Marina. it is on the opposite side of Crystal Beach.
