    I am impressed with these Zuiko lens. I have the 28 mc f/2.8 and 50 f/1.8. I adapted them to my Leica CL digital. They are not that expensive and it seems people overlook them for other vintage brands.

    I bought this lens based on this video for my Fuji XT 30. I must say I really love it. I think I might actually prefer the photos from this lens than from my AF Fuji lenses. I know technically the Fujinons are better but I really like the way this lens renders colours and the photos seem to have a depth to them that's hard to define. Thank you for your work.

    Nice video. I think that the main reason that 28mm lenses are cheaper than other wide angle lenses is that there were much more of 28mm. Cameras were very often sold as a package deal with a relatively fast 50mm lens. If people wanted a second (wide angle) lens they would usually go for a 28mm lens because the difference in view angle between a 50mm and a 35mm lens was not very significant and the difference between a 50mm and a 24mm lens on the other hand was very significant. I assume that lens manufacturers also anticipated on this fact and produced many- and often relatively cheap 28mm lenses.

    • @VintageOptiks
      @VintageOptiks  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! Yeah, that is a very good point. Back in the film days, once you had a 50mm lens on your SLR, the other two lenses you most likely were to going to buy next were 28mm and 135mm. Which is why both of those focal lengths are now easy to find and still very affordable even from some of the top manufacturers.

    Hi. Nice presentation. I wonder how this Zuiko performance if compare to the Pen F olympus Zuiko version? These old lenses perform crazy special. Full of own characteristics. I am glad that I have the chance to use these wonderful tools.

    • @VintageOptiks
      @VintageOptiks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thank you! I haven't tested any of the Pen F lenses yet, mainly because I'm worried that they might vignette quite strongly on Full Frame since they were made for the half frame Pen F camera. I've read that the longer focal lengths Pen F lenses cover full frame really well, but the wider lenses become more problematic especially at infinity. It will be fun to try some of them at some point though and see what they can do. I agree that old lenses are very special!! I absolutely love them! :)

    • @VintageOptiks
      @VintageOptiks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello friend! This lens would be more than acceptable for astrophotography. It depends of course on what your expectations are. If you are into pixel-peeping and you want perfection, then you might be better off with a new lens. Vintage wide angle lenses can have a few issues (like mustache distortion in this case), but I'm sure that this Zuiko will be more than adequate and will produce some great shots. Cheers!

    • @fm-ec1vy
      @fm-ec1vy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the quick answer. I don't think minimal mustache distortion will bother me, especially at big distances like stars. I also don't expect the same results as with the new lenses, so in addition to the oly 50mm 1.4 and 50mm 3.5 macro, I'm looking forward to this little new gem that I'm going to buy☺️ thank you 🙏

    how do this lens perform on mft sensor?

    • @VintageOptiks
      @VintageOptiks  ปีที่แล้ว

      It performs great! MFT sensors are smaller than full frame, which means that you are using the central (sharpest) area of the lens, and in this case that gives you perfect resolution. The main disadvantage of MFT sensors is that you’ll have a 2X crop factor, so you are not going to have the wide angle that this 28mm lens will give on Full Frame. But if you’re ok with the crop factor on MFT, then definitely check out this lens. It is amazing!

      @@VintageOptiks What's the difference?

    • @VintageOptiks
      @VintageOptiks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mwellmwell The main difference is the speed and the coatings. The f2.8 lens has newer coatings which protect against flare and gives richer and and more contrasty images. The f2.8 lens is also faster which produces shallower depth of field and a smoother out of focus blur. The main downside of the f2.8 lens is that it has mustache distortion which is pain to deal with in post. The f3.5 lens has only barrel distortion and that is very easy to correct. But since I'm not into shooting buildings, I prefer the faster lens with the richer colors and smother bokeh. It simply comes down to personal preferences and what I find valuable in a lens.But both lenses are sharp, extremely well build and super small and lightweight and either lens will serve you well. Cheers!
