As much as I love your photography Thomas, I have to say that your filmmaking ability is top notch and getting even better all the time - and you're doing it without a film crew or a helicopter.
It’s amazing what dehydration and lack of sleep can do to your state of mind. But despite all that, you persevered and continued your pursuit for an image. The images you managed to capture here are wonderful. The first shot was stunning with so many interesting elements, I imagine many photographers would have passed by this and not seen it’s potential. Wonderful work!
Nice message in your video Tom. The one other thing I would like to say is that "don't litter". I am sure all of us have seen rubbish in the remotest places... it breaks my heart. I recently spoke to a photographer who consciously carries a bag with him and keeps space for bringing back rubbish that he finds on the sites he visits. Lovely video... I love the first shot.
This is so kind of you, thinking of next photographers don't ruining their future shots. So simple but it's great to hear it from you. I hope everybody notices that and keeps it in mind. Not only because of footprints in the sand, also not leaving trash in the landscape, breaking trees and branches, stepping on wild plants, ... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Mr Heaton - you did a podcast with "the candid frame" a while back... the only thing i remember is the host remarking how much your vibe gets people excited about taking pictures... i have to say i cant agree more - totally bosch. Thanks for sharing, tom
Highly underated, really enjoy these videos. They aren't childish, full of memes or screaming. I can sit down, chill out and just watch a proper programme.
I love the way you produce your content. The look, the edit and the music and the way you use B roll, ranks in the top of all the TH-cam I watch. Which is a lot in the last 2 years recovering from 2 knee ops with lots of bed time and not much else. I'd love to see a video covering your non photo kit photo tips. Like the CD trick for beaches, or a shower cap over filters to stop spray, that kinda thing.
You videos are like little miniature spiritual trips to the deeper side of photography. What you describe is what I feel when I'm completely alone and far away from anyone, shooting an incredibly lit scene of a huge space. Thanks, Thomas!
Their tourist board should be paying you for this promotion, you showcased it fantastically!! Absolutely stunning location and photos. Definitely added to places I should visit.
Thank you Thomas for encouraging other photographers to be courteous and respectful. Sadly, I run into so many who have no respect for the land and other people who want to enjoy the same beauty in nature. Please continue to set a good example. Cheers!
Inspiration? I'm watching TH-cam videos for a while, and I live that you just brought up inspiration, as from the many photographers who making reviews and how to videos, you are the very first one who made me really feel that this is what I meant and want to do.
The first thing you said in this video about inspiration hit home for me. I live in the states, in the midwest , and when I look at my surroundings, I don't see anything worth taking a photo of , let alone having enough interesting stuff to make a video and posting it. I have plans to go to a couple of local places but when you look at what you and so many other landscape photographers post it seems futile to try it. You all have great skills which you have developed over time, with experience, effort, and talent. You guys make it seem so easy to do and for someone like me who wants to start out it sometimes feels like I will never get to a point I will be even close to producing anything like the quality what you and others like you have achieved. Sorry for the rant but your video really hit a part of me that I need to work on. Thanks for the video and all the hard work you do! I have a long journey ahead and I need to get off my butt and get out there and shoot. Thank you, and keep doing what you do, you are a inspiration for many people who would love to follow in your footsteps!
This is great advice about not ruining the scene with your footsteps for both yourself and other photographers. I honestly haven't given it much thought until this video. Thanks!
I had a simple but profound revelation watching this video. It has been in my subconscious watching all your previous videos, but for some reason it became clear watching this one: a stunning, sublime view/environment does not automatically mean there is a stunning, sublime image to be had. good to know.
I am overwhelmed just looking at the scene in your video. I will be completely at a loss what to shoot and what not to shoot. i might probably sit at the edge of the water soaking my feet and soaking in the turquoise colour of the water. Thanks for a lovely video. Its how I can travel the world, through your lens.
I have enjoyed an evening of watching several of your videos and have found them incredibly inspirational. You have a great eye for the beauty of nature, a terrific personality and a wonderful way with words. And that is to say nothing about your photographic skills, which are exceptional. Thank you for sharing your passion for landscape photography with the rest of us Thomas in this way that really brings the wonder of it all home and makes us want to brave the elements, get out there and capture some stunning images ourselves.
Fantastic Tom! Beautiful mages... You have definitely helped me with my own photography, as a beginner composition is always overlooked. You have shown that we must not always just capture the first thing we see but look for the best and most unforgettable ways of looking at the scene. Thank you Tom!
I am from albania i have to remove trash from the top of the trees when i photograph sometimes... and you worry for not ruining the sand for another possible photographer after you... you have my absolute respect!
Your editing is really top-notch these days - not even mentioning the photography! If inspiration was the theme for this video, you really nailed it; there was something incredibly epic and soulful about this video. Great work!
I love your videos, it essentially captures the reason I went into photography as a hobby. travel, see the beauty of nature and capture beautiful sceneries. I don't care to make money out of it, nor do I plan to but your videos capture the other side of 9 to 5. job. just ordered a tripod, and Lee filter system for tamron 15-30mm.
I've said one thing before - that You are inspiring me and other people to pursuit our images. But now I have to say "one more thing". You also encourage me to do more hiking! Mostly it's connected but my love to mountains and hiking is renewed:) Thanks!
Wow, When you said pristine white sand, you really meant it as it shows in the photos. The choice to do B&W over color on the white sandy beach was a good choice as it highlights the windswept curves in the sand - even the small ones that probably wouldn't be as obvious if taken in color. Really like your work - very ambitious!
Inspiration to me..is being mindful of opportunities that may present themselves..being present in that moment, imagining what could be a possibility the next and watching the light
Wow Thomas, I think these are some of my favourite shots of yours, Keep up the awesome work and continue to inspire others to find a love in photography just like yourself, always love to watch your videos portraying your honest and insightful opinion on landscape photography. Keep it up,
Its 10:12 PM. Just finished watching your video. Im so inspired that I grabbed my camera and am heading out for a little night photography. Thank you again for inspiring us.
I will be following in your footsteps Thomas in just two weeks So looking forward to my Harris and Lewis trip and if my images are half as good as yours it will be a result 👍🏻 great inspiration and I've added extra bottled water to my list !
Ohhhh Lewis and Harris! I was on that same beach just last summer. I had the chance to tour Scotland for 8 days with amazing sunny weather and I was shocked when I saw this beach. Truly amazing. Unfortunately, our tour guide let us stay there for only 45 minutes and my long exposure looked a bit weird but I'm gonna come back one day...
Great film. Love living in Scotland and Harris is a place I have yet to visit. Taking up photography has given me the reason to go out and explore more and already visited so many amazing places I wouldnt have otherwise.
what a fantastic video. loved it. you talking about inspiration for what to shoot. That is the reason for so many people watching your Vlogs. ... you are the inspiration for people to WANT to become Landscape Photographers. you are so passionate about what you do, rubs off onto your viewers. Thanks Thom for another great video. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
Yes you are spot on. We have to just get out there and look for experiences to record on a camera of some sort to share (in my case) or just for the sake of getting out and about. I am totally in love with CalMac whether on foot, with my bicycle or (very occasionally) with my car. It gave my heart a lift just hearing the safety advice on the tannoy!
Good job Thomas. Love the image and the two filter/bracket solution. As others have said, the video is first class. Thanks as always for showing your work and process. Best, Bob
I am playing a bit of catch up here with respect to being 4 months behind since this video was recorded. Very well presented & I immediately could relate to the part of NOT walking all over the scene one may want to shoot! I also appreciate the fact you show only the images you were able to make something out of, despite the difficulty involved in getting the composition you are looking for... One last comment concerning the links you have pasted here & very much appreciated btw. I for one don't think the average photographer is of wealthy means & trot around the globe on his/her own dime & able to share this stuff without costs involved. The 3% commission you can earn through this venue is peanuts compared to the outstanding videos you are producing, job well done Thomas Heaton! Bill Farr...
That is a bangin image at the end! I love the markings in the sand as well as the spiral shape of the dune! Don't second guess it-- it's simply lovely!! The seclusion on that beach looks like paradise!
Observing your passion enjoyment and excitement coming to the surface when you are talking about photography somehow transfers to the viewer. Watching your videos makes me understand old concept of 'patronage' and why someone can pay money to the artist not exactly in exchange for outcome, expected result but just to support whole creative process and person. I know, it might sound weird but I'm amazed and just had to spit it out :D
Thomas, as usual you have created a video with excellent images and still shots. I have been struggling lately with scene composition but after watching your Vlog today I am rejuvenated and more inspired to get out in our high desert and canyons of southern Idaho to get that great shot. . . From a landscape photography hobbyist. . . Thanks again for your work.
I seriously look forward to Wednesdays because of you! I get to sit back and watch an inspiring video from you. Thanks for the awesome content Heaton 👍
Love your channel mate, a lot of the other channels are more focused on gear or street/portrait photography, much prefer your style, getting out there and making images, its much more in line with how i go about photography and why i got into it in the first place.
I have been enjoying taking pictures for many years , but have no talent. Thankfully , you have a gift for making fine images and share them with people like myself to enjoy .
11:36 min the struggle of a photographer. "YES YES! THAT'S IT! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!" "NO! NO! IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH!" *goes home heart shattered convinced there is no good shot to work with* I feel you.
Great video, could anyone tell me which song is played at around 2:45? Shazam seems to fuck up every time...I appreciate your kind help. (doesn´t match with the published description by Thomas) Many thanks to all of you!
I always learn so much from your videos. Thanks so much for sharing your settings (not many people do that and it's so helpful to we who are in a learning curve!) and your thought process. I look forward to each of you videos and come away inspired!
I'm just being really careful to make sure I only step on the rocks. Not just for me but you know, another photographer might come along in ten minutes or twenty minutes, and I would hate to have ruined this pristine scene. Very thoughtful. Many would walk right on the sand. The next photographer might find his/her inspiration from the untouched sand by those rocks. Thank you.
Obviously the weather is anything but tropical. But some parts of the outer Scottish Islands have blue water, sandy beaches and even the odd palm tree!
Nice video Thomas! I really like the quiet atmosphere of this one and your pictures are again very beautiful! Keep on doing stuff like this, I'm always happy when I get a message that you uploaded a new video!
That was a great video Thomas! Those two black and white pictures at the end of the episode were worth that wait, even though you were not feeling that well! Good luck with your future photos and traveling!
Great video, I have been wanting to go to Harris for a few years. I've been to Mull and skye doing mostly wildlife but I need to go back to do some landscape......Skye was great, no ferry costs, just drive over the bridge but Mull cost over £100 for the ferry. I'm off to look at the ferry costs for Harris now.
All the Islands have their Magic but Harris has got to be the most scenic and serene I've ever visited. You also have Lewis and the Callanish stones for more photo opportunities. Enjoy !
Hi Thomas! 😀 I only found you on TH-cam a month ago and I'd like to express my admiration. Your honesty and truthfulness as a personality, in combination with your admirable eye for stunning compositions and your flaming enthusiasm is quite refreshing and makes you a rolemodel of mine. And it's really funny...sometimes, when I look at one of your magic photographs, I'd like to shout out: "Oh no, Thomas, why didn't you varie the view slightly in this or in that way?" 😱 Not that my ideas would be the better ones...I only wished to be able to give you a direct feedback and to discuss. ☺️ Please go on with your work and do not have too much self-doubts! Your vlogs often make my day! 🤝
I love the west coast of Scotland and I would love to go to Harris and Lewis. Not another soul to be seen - bliss, and all that stunning scenery. Wow. Loved your shots Thomas. I also loved the sand dunes and I would love to have a go at a wide shot of them undulating and forming smooth patterns. Perhaps more of an abstract. (that’s just me being hopeful ). Sorry you had a headache buddy. Hope you managed to walk it off.
Stunning as usual,in every part of the world you go,love your sensational mood to teach your passion!Thank you for your channel all the best from Italy!
Amazing place, like a heaven, as you sai. I really like the calm atmosphere in this video, too. You might not got the images you came there for but the second image is still very, VERY interesting. Excellent work as always. Thanks for doing it for us.
Wonderful video, one of the best so far. Each one is a exquisite delicacy for the senses. They transmit me peace, happiness and inspiration. Keep it up.
Excellent looking location Tom you did it justice. Look forward to your next instalment. I'm just back from another white(ish) sandy beach in Scotland called Mellon Udrigle. Fantastic views if not a few too many people on a bank holiday!
As much as I love your photography Thomas, I have to say that your filmmaking ability is top notch and getting even better all the time - and you're doing it without a film crew or a helicopter.
That's very kind, thank you.
Absolutely
my thoughts at the opening sequence
you are helping rekindle a love for photography which was beginning to fade. excellent work Tom!
That's what it's all about, thanks for letting me know.
thank you for your helpful videos I am new to photography and want to learn to take striking photos Xx
Just go to nice places, simple eh.
If you made t shirts with your face and your catchphrase "absolutely stunning" I'd totally buy one.
"fantastic"
Even "lovely"!
Square space 😜
This is what it's all about.
Stunnin rather than stunning
It’s amazing what dehydration and lack of sleep can do to your state of mind. But despite all that, you persevered and continued your pursuit for an image. The images you managed to capture here are wonderful. The first shot was stunning with so many interesting elements, I imagine many photographers would have passed by this and not seen it’s potential. Wonderful work!
Thanks a lot, Andrew. I was so exhausted by the end. Next time I wil be sure to take on more water and more sleep.
Thomas Heaton should have slept in your tent.
I've heard my name pronounced far worse than that :-)
Excellent video as always! Thank you for making our Wednesdays great :-)
This is so kind of you, thinking of next photographers don't ruining their future shots. So simple but it's great to hear it from you. I hope everybody notices that and keeps it in mind. Their tourist board should be paying you for this promotion, you showcased it fantastically!! Absolutely stunning location and photos. Definitely added to places I should visit.
The cinematography in theses videos just keeps getting better and better. nice work!
Thank you Thomas for encouraging other photographers to be courteous and respectful. Sadly, I run into so many who have no respect for the land and other people who want to enjoy the same beauty in nature. Please continue to set a good example. Cheers!
How many people would walk right past that first shot and not see the composition, you got a good eye Tom. Thanks for sharing it

that looked good as a b&w. things always change. not always for the best. what a nice place for a deep sunset

Thomas, great video. It reminds me why i want to visit Harris and Lewis for the third time.
Your editing is really top-notch these days - not even mentioning the photography! If inspiration was the theme for this video, you really nailed it; there was something incredibly epic and soulful about this video. Great work!
Thanks for your kind comment, I really enjoy the editing process and setting the mood and tone of the video.
One of the your best videos yet.
Thank you, Julian.

It is awesome to see a place like this. Everyone needs need to be more responsible and keep beauty places like this. !!!!!
I love your work and inspiration! Beautiful shot, Thomas!
That's very kind, thank you.
Great film. Love living in Scotland and Harris is a place I have yet to visit. Taking up photography has given me the reason to go out and explore more and already visited so many amazing places I wouldnt have otherwise.
Absolutely stunning first image, love the contrast of the white sand and the blue sky. As always Thomas, you've done it again 👍👍
Love your enthusiasm, and the tidbits of photography philosophy! Keep them coming!
what a fantastic video. loved it. you talking about inspiration for what to shoot.
That is the reason for so many people watching your Vlogs. ... you are the inspiration for people to WANT to become Landscape Photographers. you are so passionate about what you do, rubs off onto your viewers. Thanks Thom for another great video. Looking forward to seeing the next one.
You really captured the emotion you were feeling during this shoot. One of your best videos!
I love watching you work. The passion you have for what you do is quite evident! Very inspiring indeed!
Inspiration dose...when needed ..this is where I come. And so far it has worked wonders for me..
Just 1 thing which is this song..
Thanks Thomas. Great as always!! And thanks for the suggested video this week. Sean Tuckers video was also very nice.
That is a bangin image at the end! I love the markings in the sand as well as the spiral shape of the dune! Don't second guess it-- it's simply lovely!! The seclusion on that beach looks like paradise!
Two truly wonderful images from a lovely location. Thank you Thomas.
Beautiful place and your images are gorgeous! The black & whites are my favs! Thanks for sharing ;)
That's very kind, thank you.
That's a very kind comment, thanks a lot!!
As always brilliant, since being a small child and first hearing of the place the Isle of Harris has been on my bucket list.
Yip as always gets me looking for new compositions..great work Tom
Thanks.
Great video as always; full of enthusiasm for the wildness of our landscape!
10:40 I loved this picture , it was ambient light the atmosphere. naturally serious and handsome
You've got me thinking about composition so much more in my photos! I love your approach to photography and your work is stunning
I like your channel a lot ,because its making me really happy when I watch your videos, thank you so much for making this channel
its so much more inspiring to see how you get to the picture instead of seeing tons of great photographs.
I seriously look forward to Wednesdays because of you! I get to sit back and watch an inspiring video from you. Thanks for the awesome content Heaton 👍
I really like the attention to the sound in the video, it`s amazing !
Great stuff again, Thomas. Going to Harris at the end of May with the family. One of my favourite places on Earth. Can't wait!
Thank you.
Amazing talent you've got mate, both photography and film making.
"Things we do for photography" :)
i really appreciate how considerate you are :)
Your skills are like meditation for a soul.
Keep it up Thomas.
OMG Luskentyre Beach. It's amazing there. Thanks for sharing this.
Your videos are so well crafted. Makes me realised how far I have to come in filming and editing.
Great episode as usual Thomas! That first image made the place look almost tropical - almost. :-)
...almost.
Obviously the weather is anything but tropical. But some parts of the outer Scottish Islands have blue water, sandy beaches and even the odd palm tree!
You always makes the best concepts on the photography
Nice video Thomas! I really like the quiet atmosphere of this one and your pictures are again very beautiful! Keep on doing stuff like this, I'm always happy when I get a message that you uploaded a new video!
Great advise about not only leaving a scene pristine for YOUR photo, but also leaving it pristine for SOMEONE ELSE's photo/adventurer. Leave no trace!
That was a great video Thomas! Those two black and white pictures at the end of the episode were worth that wait, even though you were not feeling that well! Good luck with your future photos and traveling!
Awesome as always! I've been binge watching all your episodes as study breaks during this exam season!!
Brilliant VideoThomas. That B&W image is a beautiful image.
Thank you Thomas Heaton for another good video. I can identify with getting a headache during an outing.
Harris was about £70 return from Uig, so not too bad.
£70 is very reasonable to harris.
All the Islands have their Magic but Harris has got to be the most scenic and serene I've ever visited. You also have Lewis and the Callanish stones for more photo opportunities. Enjoy !
Hi Thomas! 😀
I only found you on TH-cam a month ago and I'd like to express my admiration.
Your honesty and truthfulness as a personality, in combination with your admirable eye for stunning compositions and your flaming enthusiasm is quite refreshing and makes you a rolemodel of mine.
And it's really funny...sometimes, when I look at one of your magic photographs, I'd like to shout out: "Oh no, Thomas, why didn't you varie the view slightly in this or in that way?" 😱
Not that my ideas would be the better ones...I only wished to be able to give you a direct feedback and to discuss. ☺️
Please go on with your work and do not have too much self-doubts!
Hope you managed to walk it off.
thank you for making my day . Another amazing vid. And don't forget to stay hydrated my friend!
Fab video of somewhere I plan to take my landscape photography.

Excellent looking location Tom you did it justice. Look forward to your next instalment. I'm just back from another white(ish) sandy beach in Scotland called Mellon Udrigle. Fantastic views if not a few too many people on a bank holiday!
That curved last image is just simply breathtaking... thank you for sharing
