- long time no see. After almost 3 years of ownership, I finally engine swapped my 316i e36 to an m52b28. This definitely took more time than expected, but that's just because everything I did, I wanted to do once and well, so I wouldn't have to come back to certain things.
The list of things I did to the engine: All the possible gaskets, seals, o-rings, crush washers (except head gasket, but including the gearbox seals), engine and trans mounts, Schmiedmann equal length exhaust headers, M50 intake manifold, thermostat + housing, waterpump, all the pulleys and belts, guibo, single mass clutch kit, all the rubber lines and hoses, power steering fluid reservoir, radiator, everything related to the shifter, etc...
Long story short, I wanted to make sure I put the engine in and I could drive it happily for a really long time with absolutely 0 problems.

always good 2 watch, keep going!
Looking up for more videos, and for the digital ac one, you need the control box for the ac, the ac itself so you will take out the whole dash and the center grill if it's the cable one you need one with electrical connectors, would like to see how you wire it up since I had that AC with 2 zones / dials, and have put digital, but can't figure out wiring so I don't have even heating at all, on rainy days it's awful.
hey, I don't remember a 100% everything since this was some time ago. For me - going from the regular heater to the digital climate control, required the heater box, center vent (with the cable. I think the dial climate control had the "digital" center vent), water valves and some other stuff for AC. Previously I only had 1 connector (if I remember correctly, the white connector), after the swap now there's also a black connector which is mainly for AC features. For the white connector, the wires are the same, but the only thing you have to do is change the pinout, since that changes slightly, after doing that, heating works. I don't really know about going from dial climate control to digital climate control, but I think the wiring and the connectors are supposed to be the same.
Did you need to change anything electrological for it to work?
No, not really. Just 3 things I did, disable EWS on the ECU so I don't have to do anything related to that(change key chips), disable vehicle speed sensor or something like that (this was done, so I don't have to add an extra wire), if you don't add the wire and keep the vehicle speed enabled, I think there were problems with max RPM. And the last thing, since this engine had an auto wiring harness, had to add 2 wires so the reverse lights work. From what I remember the ECUs between manual and auto are supposed to be the same, the EWS module is the one keeping the information about the car if it's an auto or manual. If I remember correctly, I think there were people on some forums saying that, if you keep the "auto ews", but the car is actually a manual, you get random rpm spikes when shifting, since the car still thinks it's an auto.
