  • A quick review on my new PRS Guitars DGT SE. Thanks for checking it out!
    *After filming this and reading you folks’ comments, I realized that I have started an issue over the string gauge. The PRS website says they ship with 10-46 and that maybe the case. I will be changing to my preferred string: Daddario XL110 and see if there is any difference. If not I may try 10.5’s or even 11’s.
    **Point of clarification: I spent that 45 minutes feeling out the adjustments to action, not using a feeler or measuring device. (I’m not a luthier by no means!)
    *This guitar and the content is my own.
    I preordered this from Sweetwater the day they were announced and it came in today: 2/17/2023. I'm not promoting anything except my own thoughts!
    Sound clips were recorded with an iPhone for the purposes of baseline evaluation.

    This guitar I have had for a month or so. I have never spent 850 and been as happy. Ever. That doesn’t mean your guitar stinks, just for me, it’s what I have been waiting for for the money for 10 years. Love everything about it.

  • @riloh58
    @riloh58 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    That middle position with either buckers or tapped is really super sweet. I love it. And you’re right about the blending on that setting. It’s great.
    My Gold Top arrived Wednesday so not had much time to play yet. My back finish on neck and body is translucent. It is really dark but with a well lit room you can see wood grain through it on mine.
    Pretty sure mine has 10s on it but I think it was restrung by the store I bought from (could be wrong about that) but they’re definitely not 9s which is what I play on my Strat. Mine was intonated well for the setup when it arrived but I lowered the action slightly and so had to adjust all of that to suit. Took a little while but the guitar responds well to being adjusted.
    Very happy with mine. And those pickups are super articulate. Love them in all settings so far. And the guitar is also super responsive (with my amp anyway), to dynamics or styles of play. I find myself using the volumes and tone knobs way more than usual. And reaping the rewards that come with that.

    Nice chords in that demo! Certainly interesting guitar ..the only thing I don't like is the solid paint on the back and neck. It's either one of these or an Eastman for me next.

    • @prsfan01
      @prsfan01  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d love to try an Eastman also…. I’ve seen some nice things there.
      The back/neck is brown and in bright light there is the slightest of transparency… but for most it will look opaque.

    I got my GT version about a week ago and it said it came with 10s but it was so easy to bend vs my 2 core models so I assumed they were 9s. I checked with calipers and they were indeed 10s. I put lampshade knobs, s-locks and SE locking tuners on mine and oiled the fretboard. However with NYXL 10s the intonation was perfect except for a slight adjustment on the B string. Maybe the Goldtop comes with different strings. Apparently the DGT has larger frets than other PRS models. Took it to practice tonight and everyone loved it. I personally like these pickups better than the Core 85/15s by far. Congrats on your DGT, great quick review as well! These are hitting WAY above their price point!

      Ive got one on order but I wont see it till Oct… I believe the pups are actually lower output but it allows more harmonics to ring through apparently….. chk out Phillip McKnights review….he takes it apart & puts a meter on the pups..
      Also watch Tim Pierce’s vid called “Could this be the best guitar for less than $1000”
      Tim is from my hometown & is friends with both Paul R Smith & David Grissom both… they went through 40 sets of pups and >20 years designing the DGT… There is a review on YT from a British cat that works with “True-fire” , that had the Core model & actually likes the SE version better…. Crazy!

Interesting about the middle position and the different tones you are getting using the volume pots so I must try that. Coil split is also a bonus. Overall I don't think you can go wrong with guitar and probably best in its price range.

    The finish on these varies a lot. Mine is a much lighter brown, to the point where the grain on the back easily shows through the paint.

    • @prsfan01
      @prsfan01  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I’ve seen a few now that have that lighter vibe! I’m sure it’s hard to keep everyone 100% the same. Some guitars also have flaws that need hiding… lesser wood and all!!

    • @faethe000
      @faethe000 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@prsfan01Yah, they had to cut corners to get these down in price. And I think the corner most often cut is in wood choice. On mine, the maple cap underneath the veneer has pretty poor color matching of the 3 pieces. You can easily see where the pieces meet in the "binding" and 1 piece is significantly darker than the other two.
      But I will take that any day over an actual finish mistake or something that affects playability.

    Thanks for the video, very good. String gauge: I've got the Goldtop on order here in the UK, and should be here in a few weeks, hopefully. You say that yours came with 10 gauge strings. Odd, all my research on the PRS site and those of retailers say that it comes with 10s. I always use 9s and was undecided whether to leave the 10s on and see how I get on with them, or asking my retailer to fit 9s (and do any associated adjustments) before they ship it to me.

      And I’m surprised these come with either lighter gauge, since new Core DGTs actually come strung with .11s-frequently commented upon that the .11s feel like .10s on the Core. Just a puzzling deviation that would’ve been so easy to replicate from the factory here. I wonder why. Eh, no big deal… I use .10s on my Core DGT. Anyway, great playing here, a great touch, and congrats on a fine guitar.

      @Straydogger 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      American-made is $4500 or so. Se DGT is around $900. Other than that, it's not $3500 better. SE DGT is really a great guitar. I bought the Goldtop model. $849 I love it.

    • @JoonKimDMD
      @JoonKimDMD 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Straydogger Nice! I only have heard nice things about DGT SE models. But at the same time, there is a group of people saying that American made pickups or woods feel better. Instead of spending $4500 and break the bank, I am thinking about spending somewhere between SE and core. CE models seem to be a good middle ground at $2000 with core pickups included.

    • @prsfan01
      @prsfan01  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Core guitar is made to top level fit & finish. It’s made in US, so labor costs are much higher. Full deep violin carve and hand finishing. Choice top woods instead of veneers. US made pickups. Plastics, tuners, and all wiring on SE are cheaper. Just a few things… but again, the SE is about as good a guitar as you can get for $800
