so what's accent ?! great video but it's more like a teaser ow I know about it I hear it in many many songs but I just can't apply it or manipulate it in any musical pattern, any help !!?
Neceros You will feel it when you use the metronome to start something. you will decide what tick signals you to start and from that on, you will hear that tick as being the first.
So what exactly is syncopation and accent. Is the accent the sequence of repeated notes? Is syncopation the extra note that stays on key all the way? I don't understand music, and there's just way too much stuff with it. I just understand the dynamics (volume or pitch of sound)
It's a change in the stressed beat. Normal beat: ONE two THREE four ONE two THREE four. Syncopated: one TWO three FOUR one TWO three FOUR Many rock songs are syncopated beats (listen in a rock song for the snare beat, its on the second and fourth beats) But that's only with drums. Syncopation is addition of extra sounds that are stressed
Its probably because you were concentrating on his voice. Try it on a real clock. It should sound like Tik, tok, tok, tok, Tik, tok, tok, tok. or Tik, tok, Tik tok. You should be able to switch between the two consciously as well.
This might be a little 'out there', but you could download the video from TH-cam and toss into some software to slow it down a little. Something like Amazing Sldow-Downer, although I'm not sure if it supports video.
tbh it's not even clear what keys he presses. My ears are not trained, I don't play any instruments and this is fustrating. I can't even find any tutorials or sheet music. I just want the keys he uses! waaaaaaaaaaaaah
Please excuse my ignorance. I checked for you (I play various instruments and my ears are somewhat trained) and the melody is in Am. The bass note stays on A, so if we call that A, the rest is: A A' E'' A'' E'' A' (x2), A A' E'' F'' E'' A' (x2), A A' E'' G'' E'' A' (x2) if that makes any sense. The accents (') mean it's in a different octave. Hope this helps, good luck.
I have greatly appreciated your videos on music and have recommended them to others but the statement you made "African musicians for thousands of years" cannot be validated in any way shape or form, unless "musician" means something totally different to you than it does to me and everyone else. The saying, "The Beatles had three musicians and a drummer" has often been voiced.
The fact I have no idea what I want to be in your eyes are so many things I do it again I have a great way for me and I don't think that is not an issue with a lot more fun and addicting and I don't think that is not an issue with a lot more fun if you don't like it when you have a great way for you to do with my friends to play in a row of a new song and I don't have a great day and night in with me to do it all in my head room and
this is great! the explanations are so clear. i wanna understand more about swing!
Syncopated riffs make for great chase scenes.
the reverb in this room
Beautifully done, thank you! You play amazingly, you look great and I love your accent - and the music is fantastic!
wow this video was super interesting and i feel like i learned a lot. i usually hate documentaries but this was a pleasant surprise
I love Philip Glass. That man is one of the greatest at using the zeroth note, silence. Classical minimalism all the way.
Extremely helpful 🙏
Thanks for the video. It was really informative.
That's good info I always wonder why my beats sound robotic
the best reverb ever
Very interesting video.
You're great!
Oh man I fucking love drumming. Thanks for the upload.
That Clock Ticking Part Sounds Like The Beginning Of Down On The Corner!!
Interesting topic
the organ... a most versatile instrument which can produce many different sounds depending on many different adjustments (reeds, etc.)
Hearing the same thing twice and hearing him say, 'and so you hear the change' is predictably frustrating.
Great stuff
Music is Life. Life is Vibration. Look up Cymatics.
btbam and haken do this with lyrics. Brilliant
Oh my god I thought It was a picture of him, for real !!
My God.... How the brain thinks!!! BRAVO!!!
i like this guy
It kind of interrupts on swing, tho, and I can't figure out where the continuation is... :(
what is the piece of music being played near the start its sounds great.
I think accent and syncopation are modern words for misunderstood ancient terms like cantabile or prolation canon which was a contrapuntal device?
2:10 MORE COWBELL!!!
4k men and women every day
Needs more djent.
9/10 ign
Needs more djent
so what's accent ?! great video but it's more like a teaser ow I know about it I hear it in many many songs but I just can't apply it or manipulate it in any musical pattern, any help !!?
I just heard a bell clanging over and over during that metronome bit at 2:40. Didn't hear what he was talking about. Did you?
It's a DINK dink for each tick for me
+Neceros You seem to decide for yourself what tick comes first from the other.
Angry Face Yeah, my brain is different I guess. All the ticks sound identical.

I like syncopated metal music!
I did not group any of the clicks into 2s or 4s, I simply heard the clicks. Why in the world would you group them mentally into small sets?
whats that vid where there are africans? i need to sample those
very informativeeee X)
Seriously, does the clock have to sound like a cowbell? DON'T FEAR THE REAPER BABY TAKE MY HAND
@EV Fan!!!! ME TOO YAY
TOOL AND THINGS.
At 2:20, that clock was just going 1, 1, 1, 1 to me... not 1, 2, 1, 2
...I have no virtual accents :/
wow
read the description
where is the swing part????
at 00.01 why is thom yorke on the wall
i get the beat!
3:40 sounds like aliens music
***** It sounds similar to the illuminati "song" aka the intro to Scifi's X-files. lol. It's still a human invention though.
9:04 "Everyone liked the jerkiness of syncopation, so it stuck"
9:10 ...don't you tell me what i like...
@logan500 why do you say hes being told what to say?
What's the name of the song he plays by Philip Glass?
akhenaten
What does it mean if you you don't hear the "virtual accent"? Does that mean my brain doesn't make things up that aren't there?
...But what about the bwargs and the wubs? Where do those fit into musical theory?
What instrument is he playing at 3:48?
He's playing 'Organ'

Beleive it or not, this video settled an arguement.
@hepalphabet : hahahahaha!!!

How can I learn how to play 3:40?
Use your ears. ;)
i tried, but i can't work it out :( his fingers move too fast so I cant even see all the keys he is using
