- Rango and I decided to take a road trip to Deming for some rock hounding. It was a 10 hour drive but well worth it. I found lots of raw material for future lapidary projects so be sure and keep checking back for new videos!
New Mexico has the best weather in the US. No one can tell me any different! Glad you found some gems out here 😊
Thanks Rebecca! I definitely enjoyed going there.
Except for the wind😂
I live up in Silver City and it is 100% the best weather in the United States. Because it's the mountain tops it's not as windy as most of the rest of New Mexico. We get all four seasons including snow but as soon as the sun comes up the snow melts. This summer it got a little hotter than usual but still great
Dang, great trip! Looking forward to seeing both the studs and duds when you cut these!
I’ll start tomorrow cutting some of the stones and then I’ll know how good I did picking out interesting rocks. I’m sure there will be some duds but hopefully a couple will hit.
This was awesome - thank you for sharing this trip! I love that you rook Rango with! Looking forward to seeing some of this stuff in future videos.
Thanks! Rango is a good travel buddy. I’ve already got one new video finished and I’ll start in earnest on several of them very soon.
I love that area of NM. Looking forward to seeing your results.
It was a fun trip! I should have some videos out very soon so stay tuned.
Awesome trip and good to see you out in nature with Rango the Rock Reaper 🙂
I love it, Rango the Rock Reaper!! 😆
Looking forward to see the great videos coming up that place looks amazing very cool rocks 🪨😎
I hope to have some out very soon Keith so stay tuned!
Awesome video. I can't wait to get out to Demming again! Planning on going in October when it's a little cooler. I agree that Texas humidity is another level of heat, I live in San Antonio, same weather as you. Rockhounding around here can be he'll, but it doesn't stop me. I find myself using my sweat drops to wet the rocks to get a better idea!
That’s a great idea with the sweat! 😆 Thanks for watching, and good luck with your hounding.
Excellent trip! Good haul!
Thanks, it was a fun trip for Rango and me!😆
I live in New Mexico, 2 hours from Deming, and i love it there. We go there often . Some of the rocks you found we call leaverites, because we leave er right there lol.
Yup, I must agree!😆 I’m getting better all the time at avoiding leaverites 😏
Sounds like you very close to fluorite ridge. Too bad you didn't find that location it's really great up there I hear I've only been there once and I didn't even get to look around that much because it was so hot when I went. I can't wait to go back there this winter
That sounds like a great spot, thanks for the heads up! I hope to get back there one day as well. 😁
This is a trip that I've been wanting to make for a while! Hopefully I can get out there...in the fall. hehe. The Alpine region in Texas is a good place to look on the way back but finding land that isn't private is a huge problem.
You should definitely go! I have another trip planned in a couple of weeks that will take me south of Alpine. I’m going to hunt as much as I can with the limited amount of land available.
There is a pond in Balmorhea that you can search but you have to pay a fee. Drive carefully there. The police will pull you over and just make up a reason after and the locals are not very friendly. We had at least 3 interactions in as many hours trying to rock hunt on land that was completely OK to hunt on. If you do go, don't go on the North side of the road where that mountain tempts you. That area is in dispute. I did find one decent gray blue nodule for all that harassment!
@@jamesferry6717 Thanks for the information James! If I have time I’ll try to get up that way and check it out.
Looking forward to some cutting!
Me too! I hope to get at it soon 🤞.
Swell guy here thank you sir nice glasses by the way
Thank you for watching the video!
The Deming rock club own a claim called “big diggings” which is an agate claim. Virtually all colors. The green rock you found is most likely “epidote”.
I heard about that claim and I actually bought a couple of agates at the local rock shop in Deming that came from there. It looks like good stuff!
@@spwinaustin I used to lead field trips there for the the clubs show.
I live in Idaho but have 5 acres in Deming
Sweet, I’m so jealous! I had a blast out there. Thanks for watching!
We travel between home bases. In NM now. Definitely finding some rocks of all these kinds. ❤thanks
Saw great geode museum there but sadly, no momentums to being home.
That’s too bad 😥. There’s definitely so good rockhounding around there.
Have you hunted for Turquoise in New Mexico ?
Hello, thanks for watching! I have never hunted turquoise but I’m sure it would be fun. I have bought plenty 😆.
@@spwinaustin I’m in New Mexico and have considered giving it a try
Good luck! 🍀
