- There is more to GARDNER McKAY beyond just her beauty. Her sturdy construction, classic design and unprecedented safety make her a great choice for anyone thinking about doing some serious cruising! She is ready to sail the open seas and ready to take off for an around-the-world tour immediately!

I never get tired of this video. The Gardner McKay has to be my favorite mono hull boat ever. Her draft is the only draw back.
The most beautiful 48 I've ever seen.
Wow what a thing of great beauty! Thanks for sharing.
My friend, Jan Flammer, had her built as the second 48T aft cockpit after sailing BRAVURA. Which was the first aft cockpit 48T which was owned by me , designed by myself and Scott Sprague in 1986. BRAVURA was built in the Hansa yard while this boat was, I believe, built by King Dragon. I saw her in San Diego when she was about 12 years old. Someone had really "done her wrong." But a subsequent owner spent a ton and brought into the fine shape you see in this video.
48Ts are fast, and comfortable . On several of our blue water passages 200nm a day were common. A truly great boat. As far as I know only 3 aft cockpits were built. Mine, Jan's and a third boat, a ketch, that was send to the UK for finishing. The deck mould was destroyed when Hans Christian made the ill-fated move to Thailand. So unfortunately they are the last and only examples of this fine vessel.
Interesting HC 48 history, so thanks for contributing to the discussion.
I have a Harwood Ives designed 1986 HC 43T, also built at the King Dragon yard in Taiwan and I agree HC's are both lovely to look at and lovely to sail.
Mine was also unloved when I bought her almost 10 years ago and I have been slowly but steadily returning her to her former glory. What has saved mine is that the decks appear to have originally been around one inch thick I'm guessing, and after I finished the decks there's still between 12 to 16mm of good teak left.
She's a thing of beauty...
Great blue water cruising sailboat ⛵️
Magnifique 👍⛵🤩
Those sails 😍😍😍
Like the 4th time I've watched this video. Such a beautiful boat man.
awesome video.
She's beautiful! Wish i could be sailing on her.
❤ ⛵️
Glorious.
My God. What a boat.
A beautiful cutter, no question. I tried to get an idea of the size of the anchor chain....but think it looks like 3/8"....I sure hope it is actually 1/2". I was one of two boats that held their anchor in Tahiti during one of their 7 hurricanes in 81-82. Every boat over 40' except mine and one other that had 1/2 chain broke their gear and went on the beach. -Veteran '66-68
Great video!!
This what sail boat videos should be about - sailing!
She looks very sea kindly ...
Mike from Missouri
nice boat, but i find center cockpit a more roomy boat!
Hope everyone knows who Gardner McKay was
even in french TV, France ! in 1963...i dream to be cpt Troy !! .i was sure he was french ,in tahiti!
@@ballyerick2270 He was an actor but much more. Try wikipedia. He was a sailor and crossed the atlantic several times. His grandfather (Donald) was a famous boat builder in Massachusetts. Donald started the first Massachusetts miracle. He doubled the tonnage of his boats every year or so. Long before Moore (Moore's law) was born.
How much?

Did you buy it?
Beautiful yacht, she looks a bit heavy in the bow
Needs more shots of the interior and less of sailing. What do the head(s), the berths, the engine, etc. look like?
Nice sailing video, but not a "walk through". Nice boat, but needs more re-hab than it's worth.
Scott Edson more rehab?? The damn thing is in perfect condition 🤣
@@svgitana2499 Brass. high gloss wod, velour pillows. red sails. Looks like Trump Tower.
She has clearly been completely rehabbed and appears to be in Bristol condition.
Let’s hope you’ve learned something about yachts in the past 2 years.
@@ushoys Great boat, but still wouldn't buy other than sailing around the bay.
