Hello 👋 my outdoors friend, greetings from Northern California. I just came across your channel. Thank you for sharing this informative video. You are set for almost any emergency. Take good care of yourself and stay safe out there. 😊
interesting observation. I had not factored that in. Good idea to treat it a little more gently then because the ability to boil with it validates the extra cost.
@@AndreFavron you can buy a standard Grayl and a pathfinder titanium cup (or Toaks, etc.) the Grayl nests into and still have even more versatility. Why? Because you probably wouldn’t want to cook or dirty up your “clean water” container.
I definitely enjoy your channel. See it all the time but I must differ with your bag versus the help people bag is much more organized. I don’t do TH-cam videos but if I put mine on there, it would blow everybody out of the water. All I did was buy some 511 small inserts to divide all my small items in the center compartment, and wow what a system
Ok just found your channel and am loving it. Being raised with the whole country fried multiple use mentally, it's nice to finally find someone who understands using an item for hunting, survival, etc.....Thank you!,
I like the idea of the fold out razor blade for a survival cutter (some folk don't like the fact this is called a knife. Hey Sharp and Pointy right?!). For another choice Amazon has a single folding cutter which is a bit sturdier for those looking for that. One thing I have noticed lately is all the knives that are coming along with disposable blades and a pack of replacement blades. I am not sure how I think about this. Efficient and wasteful at the same time. I think we should really focus on making things last, repurpose etc. The small cutters discussed would do really well in a smaller container, say the one bag you always take. I am currently building bags to donate for auction to raise awareness etc. Thanks for the multitude of ideas!
I've had a few Protac 1L-1AA flashlights. The tailcap eventually failed on all of them. Streamlight should sell stand alone tailcap switches. I moved on to Fenix.
Good premise and I love the concept. I want to always have first layer gear on me,e. That gear and pouch has to be light and compact enough to wear all the time, without becoming fatigued from wearing it.
That’s perfect! I’ve been searching for months for a pouch to carry my ultra press on my chest rig vertically. I already have a Roll 1 from Ferro and didn’t like it for medical. I love all your nuggets of wisdom. Thanks! 🇺🇸
I live in the PNW area of Canada, and I actually took my ultra press out of my kit for the winter months ( so the filter cartridge doesn't freeze and crack) I carry a sawyer mini in my pocket instead close to body heat
Good well thought out kit. I put all my gear in waterproof dry bags. Have multiple dry bags of different sizes and colours. If get wet would be an issue..
Add a good fixblade at the least. Gerber strong arm is a decent option. Multitool and skily pocket boy if you can mage to squeeze them in. Tools are very difficult to create in the woods.
Man I always appreciate your point of view on things. This is just straight and to the point, not a lot of crap you don't need, some people carry the kitchen sink with them for preparedness. Really this is just the essentials executed well. I adapted your water storage method on this kit. Credit where credit is due this trauma one roll pouch works great for a 1L smart water bottle!
Thank you!I appreciate it! Just a normal due doing fun stuff lol. The roll 1 carries a smart water or a life water bottle really well. A friend of mine may be working on a better solution at the moment, too.
What... no knife??? Or is a knife too heavy for you to carry??? LOL. You would think with that 12 years of experience you would carry a knife and a poncho over a tarp. LMAO. Well... you do you, but I know I would not want that kit in a rainy environment just above freezing!!! @@PreparedAirman
@johnl-cz2qg That's the funny thing the industry tells you need all these things. They are trying to make money. If people would actually get off the couch and use their gear, they would find they don't need certain things. I don't carry a fixed blade knife for hiking, fishing, camping stuff like that. Realistically, a good folding knife will do the job. I would carry a poncho but it's too large to fit in this kit bag. So I went with something smaller... lol Stop listening to TH-cam and go out and test things for yourself. You can learn more by doing then watching.
@@johnl-cz2qg I usually keep a knife in my pocket. Most of the time a SAK ranger is what I go with, gives me an actual locking 4 inch blade with a small saw too. Unless I'm doing some bushcraft shelter building or whatever for fun, I just don't need anything more than that.
Just a few things to co sider .. #1. I saw lithium AAs which is great but no spare 123s... And thats bad. In a bad situation u wanna be able to run your most powerful lights IE your pistol light and your handheld with 123s (since AAs have extremely diminished output in that handheld light tho they do work) ALL NIGHT LONG if necessary. I would have atleast 2 full battery swaps for my pistol light and a couple spares for the handheld. #2. As far as bandaids, all i recommend or buy anymore are fingertip and knuckle bandaids. The vast majority of boo boos that need a Band-Aid are on your hands and fingers. But those Band-Aids can be used Anywhere regardless, but work far better on fingers and hands and toes/side of foot for blisters than regular bandaids do. #3. For the Grayl, they can be easily dented and deformed rendering them compromised. I always recommend an additional Pathfinder nesting cup which protects the actual body of the Grayl even more so, plus gives a second container with virtually no space or weight penalty. #4. HEADLAMP. Flashlights are great, but going hands-free is important, it also helps immensely when using your pistol and weapon light allowing you to have a second light on your head shining around giving you twice as much capability to catch eyeshine from potential predators at night as they shine around independently of each other. #5 i highly recommend adding atleast 1 space blanket. Especially since your Basha might be dedicated to overhead rain protection. #6 signalling devices. Whistle, glowstick, pen flare launcher ect. And signal mirror which is also medical as it allows you to examine your face and eyes (EXTREMELY important aspect) tho some compasses incorporate this.
I have a simiar pack with an SOL bivvy in it. I unexpectedly had to spend the night in the rocky mountains in September with only dirtbike gear. A fire saved my life but i always carry a bivvy now
That's a nice everyday kit. Very well thought out over years of use. Another recommendation, I started have these effervescent tabs called "Voost". You can usually get them on sale, and they have a lot of different flavors and vitamin/electrolyte combos.. The tabs don't break or crumble super easy, but they must stay 100% dry. taste great, not bubbly or sugary/too much color. cheers, and stay safe.
forgot to mention in case anyone gives those tabs a look. the "hydration" ones that are fruit punch flavored, I use 2 per liter, and it's a ton of electrolytes. the D vitamin one tastes great too.
Why do you carry a second identical flashlight and not a headlamp? When you actually need to do something in the dark like traveling, collecting water, or doing anything medical, you're going to want to have two hands available.
Outstanding set up! I’ve been trying to make an Eberlestock chest rig work for me, and it is pretty good, but I think I like your set up better as an all-purpose option. Thanks
Tried years ago the front harness kit it did not work for me since I was to used to my mags being there. I still like the old (very old) pouch on my back that is low enough to still wear my backpack. But use what works man.
I need to redo my get home bag and Im basically set up for just boiling water. If I use the metal canteen and the aqua tabs would that be safe enough for a 2 day hike home from work in yalls opinion? My biggest problem is weight and its screaming hot here in NC this summer.
I am not sure the compass will prove all that useful due to the ongoing major excursion of the magnetic poles. Is an up to date conversion formula available? Granted it would change regularly due to the ongoing movement. A Sextant may prove more useful, if out in the "doolies" but you can see the North Star. I have not seen any conversation on line re the use of compasses in the face of a major excursion. GPS will work as long as the satellites are working.
If I recall it is this one. The Streamlight light has a bezel of 24.13mm and the filter is a 25.4mm. In my use it will fit and stay on just not super snug. You could always add electrical tape to the inside to make it fit perfectly. amzn.to/4bhQT6z

Also what do u do about feet? Do u bring 2 different shoes and switch em out with socks when they get wet or do u wear fast drying shoes and just change out socks. ?? Snugpak is the most slept-on company out there. I own so much of their stuff.
They aren't slept on at all tho... They are an EXTREMELY popular and well-known brand lol
The titanium Grayl, besides being very high priced is subject to denting that may prevent the filter from working as designed.
