    As a dinosaur lover, I am actually really pleased with the Brachiosaurus. The legs and neck gap are a letdown, but the shaping is really nice. It looks a lot like a real Brachiosaurus (or Giraffititan). The stance is amazing, perfectly capturing it's taller front limbs. There's currently some debate over where its nostrils were, so it's cool that they didn't include a print or suggestion for those. It's not a very mobile figure, and works more like a statue, but it's impressive. Way better than our last big lego herbivore, Therizinosaurus.

    I'm looking forward to getting this set (when it goes on sale) but I'm so annoyed that they didn't give the brachiosaurus movable legs. That's my only real complaint. One of the most iconic parts of that scene is the dinosaur standing on its back legs to reach the tree. They even have to pose it in that weird way on the box for that scene where it's basically hovering in a way that it can't in real life. You were making a new dinosaur so why not go all out with it

    • @storm5936
      @storm5936 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      True, the brachio was on it's hind legs, it is sad that I can remember this scene so damn well

    • @HEMAYATC
      @HEMAYATC ปีที่แล้ว +4

      100% agreed. Movable legs would have also gone a long way towards mitigating the lack of flexibility in the neck.

    • @owene2530
      @owene2530 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They're too cheap. If they gave it working legs they'd be making 4 brand new molds, and as of late lego hates when they don't get to cut corners

      Spared some expense

    • @Tiishen
      @Tiishen ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not that I'm defending the lack of articulated legs, it definitely would have been a good feature, but I'm thinking it was simply a cost-saving measure
      Like, making the legs movable would require two (just hind legs) or four (all legs) additional new molds. We know Lego designers have some kind of limit on making new molds. So seems like that could be the cause

    I love the look of the brachiosaurus. Definitely the selling point of the set. Hopefully they improve the neck system as time goes on.

    I just wish they included the kids’ minifigs. The set’s basically two scenes in one, which is a great idea, but the second scene is difficult to recreate with two of three characters missing.

    • @vincentwiddershoven2122
      @vincentwiddershoven2122 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You read my mind. As soon as i saw the minifigure line up i whas like: where are the kids. Or... is this the scene where they just started the tour and saw the dinos for the first time... if that is the case, why the platform on the tree? 😁

    • @Howlox
      @Howlox ปีที่แล้ว

      What? Is this not just the scene where they see the sauropod for the first time?

    • @kibavee3295
      @kibavee3295 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Triceratops set in this wave is like that too! You get Ellie the dung pile and Malcolm, but no park ranger guy. And I know they can't have everyone, but a big part of the sick Triceratops scene was that park ranger guy.
      Unless I'm getting my scenes wrong, it's been awhile since I've last seen the film

    I think the neck should be built in like on a lego horse and the rear legs should be movable.
    Alse Ellie Sattler's legs might as well be just regular tan legs if they're gonna print them like that.

  • @skyborne80
    @skyborne80 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Considering one of the cooler parts of the brachiosaurus scene in Jurassic Park was when she reared up on her hind legs to reach a higher branch, it's unfortunate that there's no limb articulation.

    The dinosaur's half-cut neck is not the design standard I expect of LEGO. It's inexcusable. Action figure manufacturers solved the problem of seamless joints that could hold their position decades ago.

    • @falx88
      @falx88 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Man I agree. But actually Lego didn't have to solve anything. They already had a decent solution with their 2001 brachiosaurus which they could have improved upon. That one has no gaps. Both the neck and tail can move up and down. Has more rotation points and even movable legs. But I guess they wanted to reuse the joints used in other dinosaurs and save on costs.

    • @owene2530
      @owene2530 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      They put it there so it could bend its neck downward. Lego is very stubborn about changing their system so if they made it seamless and fully articulated they'd probably have to design a new joint system. I don't disagree it looks terrible, but I think lego needs to stop calling their products quality, because they're leaning into the fact that kids don't care about perfection too much, even when they're designing sets intended for adults 😂 they've made a shift in their methods but they won't make the shift in their marketing to match their new standards

    I can't join in on the excitement for this brachiosaurus. I have the OG "Dinosaurs" one that you showed in the video; it was one of my favourite toys as a kid. If Lego can make a sauropod with poseable legs more than 20 years ago, they have no excuse to no do so today( I know it might be difficult and it would up the price but still.)
    People here are commenting saying they hope they will get an updated version soon with more poseability. Why would Lego design a new sauropod any time soon? This will be the sauropod mold for the next 10 years I bet. They should have done it right first go, I must say.

    I always thought the Brachiosaur in the movie was more blue, but it doesn't look bad like this. That gap in the neck is very unfortunate. Lack of articulation is especially odd, since this set contains the iconic scene of the Brachiosaur rearing up to get the top leaves on the giant tree.
    It's good the tree was included. You could recreate the scene with Grant and the 2 kids when the Brachiosaur comes up to the tree, though the kids aren't included here.
    By the way, I could swear there was a shot of Elie grabbing the leaf off a plant as they drive by (which was also an extinct species brought back,) but I can't ever find the scene in the movie, even in the theatrical aspect ratio. I figured it just got cut off in my old VHS copies. Maybe it was from a trailer or something.

    I could engineer a fix for that gap as well as allow it to go further down. Would be more expensive, but making that hollow neck have a moveable/retractable chunk that sat flush with the base but pushed into the hollow cavity would allow full range and clean up the slice. Wouldnt be much of a modification to the piece either. Its nice to see those extra bits of effort when they happen in the company. But I get why it doesnt and cant always happen.

    I was gonna take it easy on my Lego spending for the rest of 2023... Lack of space etc. Then Lego goes on the offensive and comes out with SO MANY fun sets within months of each other! Im just hoping I will still have rent money by the time 2024 rolls around. ;)

  • @EvolutionSquare
    @EvolutionSquare ปีที่แล้ว

    When we first heard they were making a Brachi, I was SO excited and I can't pretend that the actual figure doesn't hugely disappoint me.
    The gap at the neck is horrendous and could have been solved by a different joint which would not have allowed for neck rotation, only up and down but that's all that was needed.
    On top of that the complete lack of posability in the legs.
    Final nail in the coffin is the tree build that comes with the set. It's most of the piece count but it's inexcusably ugly imo. Most LEGO trees I'm not a fan of but it's just the result ofthem using as few pieces as possible. The reasoning behind that is understandable, even though it sadly leads to meager looking trees. But this tree has a substantial piece count, so it could/should have been good.
    I got the three smaller sets, but this one and the Visitor Center I hope to maybe get at a discount one day.

    Here in the Netherlands this set (in fact all JP sets) were discounted 20% upon launch. However, I still was not happy about all the spruce marks on so many pieces! The T.rex also has this gap in the neck for articulation and it looks very good, I don't see how it's annoying for the Brachiosaurus if the rendering is just as good? In any case, its design is excellent, very faithful to that of the film, second place after the velociraptor.

    In my opinion, the 'pure Lego' portions of these, the lab in the other set and the jeep are neat and the figures are great, but the dinosaurs (arguably the biggest draw to some) appear to be devolving, or at the very least the execution of them, the T. rex lacks the teeth printing that (unless I'm mistaken) most if not all of that style of Lego T. rex have had - which might be a nitpick, but it seems like something that shouldn't happen to a premium 'this set is expensive because of this' item. Likewise the entire joint setup of the Brachiosaurus is strange, I understand that this is a Lego dinosaur, and that there might be a good reason for the lack of leg articulation (which is a shame given how iconic the scene is) but the neck is just a big meh, if they needed to sacrifice so much aesthetically then at least it could/should've had more articulation. It all somewhat reminds me of the Indoraptor parts being recycled for the much different looking Therizinosaurus/Baryonyx, where I do understand that the costs and effort needed to make new, solid and functional (but very specialized) pieces are a risky or just complicated move, but from Lego I'd hope for at least a bit more of that extra effort (like their fantastic Triceratops figure) if you get what I mean.

    Fast forward 3 months.. i have this set. The jp theme is the only theme i reasonably disagree with jang's conclusions. As a jp fan, that set is so perfect. All the components, even the minfigs are a perfect combination, the whole set is absolutely worth getting. Pricing however, not so much. Its an odd set, i don't like how the pricing its making me feel, it feels like they've made as much "stuff" as possible, while using the smallest amounts of parts possible, it feels like a fully covered piece of toast with very thin, perfectly applied butter. So you could justify somewhere close to the rrp, but from the substance of the lego pieces, you won't feel good about passing it, even though you can pass it.

    I want this mostly for the jeep and figures, but it cost 110$ in my country -3-

      They could do a fairly cheap, standalone JP Jeep and they would sell like hotcakes

    80$ in my opinion definitely isn’t bad considering the intensely large pieces for the brachiosaurus and the cost of inflation possibly added on 🤷

    We are getting more preformed trees and leaves in different colors, which is great, but they really should improve on their built up trees. The dinosaur is really really poor.
    As a person who likes dinos and nature I find the car the best thing here. Weird

    I wouldn’t even have minded if they used the same model that they used in the Lego Jurassic park game even if they sold him by it’s self for like $40 at least it was massive and had the articulation so wtf is this that we got

    Give me brick built dinos any day over these figures. These feel like Playskool not Lego.

    I don’t care about the neck. Far enough to the point that I didn’t even notice that it would be seen as an issue for people
