  • I filmed this some time ago on a farm that no longer puts barley in unfortunately, it wasn't the best of days for hunting with an air rifle but i made best use of the break in the rainy weather we were having that year and managed to put a few birds in the bag.

      Yes it can be frustrating when the birds are decoying lovely for a shotgun but just not landing for a shot with an air rifle. Good luck with your new air rifle and try using a dead rabbit to bait magpies down for you air rifle.

      Its true the HW97 i use isn't the cheapest of spring guns and there are budget end rifles out there that can do the same in the right hands but the hunting techniques i use can be used by anyone.

  • @gabrielbell4867
    @gabrielbell4867 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bit late, but when in a hide with a springer, do you shoot with sticks or a rest? I've always preferred stalking with the airgun due to hide shooting feeling restrictive and just wondered if there was anything I could do to make it easier/more comfortable.

    Love the springer videos as that is the type of air rifle I use. Don't do enough shooting to justify a PCP but do want to get the best springer I can afford.

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, when i got back into springers i couldn't put it down and took it every where and could shoot just as well as i could with my pcp's if i put the practice in that is, the only big disadvantage was not having that quick reload.

      @@HuntersVermin The HW97 seems to be the best I've come across how would you compare it to the Air Arms TX200

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well as far as accuracy goes there's nothing really between them though i think the TX200 has a nicer stock but the one thing i hate is that clicking noise the anti bear trap on the side of the TX200 makes.

    • @genebraaksma
      @genebraaksma 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HuntersVermin Thanks, I like the looks of the TX200 too but the bottom line is if you are taking it out for hunting you have a lot more options with the HW97 and we all know no one would want to paint up the TX200.

    +HuntersVermin I have a BSA Superten and I would like change my original barrel to a R10 Barrel because this last has a thread for a silencer. I am not sure if are the same barrel. Are they?. I mean if it's possible to fit a r10 barrel on a S10. Thanks.

      +AGBCR ART SORA
      I'm not sure if the R10 barrel will fit an S10 as even if the barrel diameter is the same the transfer port might be bored it a different place, but if all you want is the end of the barrel threaded you can take your S10 to a gunsmith and they with thread the barrel for you so a silencer can be fitted.

      And I`ll remember that! :)
      Also considering my first PCP, my cheaper break barrels works well enough for sparrows inside 25-30 meters (when I hit).
      But should like to extend that range and improve accuracy.
      Cometa Orion Bullpup seems a decent choice for the money, I`ve always had good luck with Spanish air rifle.
      Other than that I use mostly my CZ 452 Lux .22LR with Suppressor, but the cheap scope is losing zero on that so it`s time to get some sort of good quality Mil-scope, a Falcon FFP with the BR20 reticle should do the trick, though I originally wanted the Primary Arms with the R-Grid reticle (Not sold outside U.S unfortunately) which is like the Horus reticle, you just zero in the thing and work with the mils :)

      I don't know as i find TH-cam a little overwhelming at times with all the comments i get and i find myself sitting at a computer editing or answering questions when i'd rather be out in the field enjoying the sights and sounds of the country side with the possibility of bagging a few rabbits or decoying crows, but i will look the site up to see what its like.

    Hi friend, I like your channel very much. I'm from Germany and my English isn't the best, sorry! I have a question. Did you measure how many joules the rifle has with the tuning kit? I read that in England you can freely buy rifles up to 16.3 joules. Can you tell me the performance and what is the maximum effective range you can hunt? I would appreciate an answer. You make very interesting videos! Warm greetings from Germany.

    • @HuntersVermin
      @HuntersVermin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi my HW97 was a 12ft/lb (16 joules) UK legal rifle as you can buy an air rifle in the UK (But not Scotland) without a licence so long as it is under 12ft/lb so most guns will come from the manufacture at around 11 to 11.5ft/lb to be on the safe side. After the tuning kit my rifle was about 13ft/lb (17.6joules) but i live in Northern Ireland were we have to have a licence for any air rifle over 1 joule of energy. At this sort of power my rifle would cleanly kill a rabbit out to 35-40 yards with a well placed head shot. Hope that answers your questions.
