Fun Facts: This is used in the September 13th, 1997 build as seen on TCRF This early digging ground can still be seen in the final game, via Diggin It's Save Icon.
Even back then, these levels were *always* the weirdest to me. Just...so much strange bizarre stuff in it. Like its another outside dirt path level but with...so many strange obstacles and enemies. They probably wanted to make this level as looney tunes as possible.
If I had to guess why the colour of the burrowable ground was changed to the maroon shade in the final game, I’m guessing it kinda blends in with the rest of the ground. The maroon contrasts more with the beige.
Not much to process. Still intresting. The early texture's cool and the physics based bits of dirt look pretty cool. It was probably cut due to not working/lagging the game if the screen was too busy.
I assume we're looking at the particle effect? I reckon we could reinstate them with modern modding for emulators. But as another user says, on console it'll probably cause lag.
Not just that but the ground here is grey as opposed to a more reddish colour in the final build. I prefer the final build it adds more colour. I think... the dirt animation was removed though.
G'day airumu! Been a while, hasn't it... Hey, do you mind if I ask a question? How do you think you would go with modding/understanding how to mod a different game from Crash? I ask because you seem to have a pretty good grasp on how to mod the Crash games in ways we previously thought impossible - which s significant since these games haven't necessarily been the easiest to mod in the past. So I'd imagine you would be able to figure out the inner workings of a different game pretty easily. And I have something in mind for a mod for a different type of game... A seemingly rather basic mod, admittedly, but it would require doing something that the community for the game in question hasn't figured out - surprisingly. *Voice/audio switching.* If you're interested - or at least curious - let me know and we can discuss further.
Hello :) I don't know how I would go about it because I honestly have no interest in modding other games right now, so I have no idea how the voice switching would work in said game. At least in Crash games it's easy to do though.

Yeah I noticed that too. Always thought it was some unused texture. Cool to see in game though!
That perfectly cut woah at the end really cracked me up.
W-
That floor texture is really different compared to the one to the final version. It’s an interesting find.
That looks to be the same colour that it is on the load/save menu icon for Diggin’ It.
That texture honestly fits much better.
Agreed, It looks more frosty.
This was present in the red crystal prototype build... my life will be complete when that build will be leaked
Red crystal? Where can I see that?

That floor texture is downright cursed.
Brains.

土の色がベージュ…しかも潜る時の専用エフェクトがあったんだな…。
When I played it for the first time in late christmas 2003 I was supposed that texture is rubber or something natural polymer this excavatable floor.
I like that he can dive into the ground while still moving forward, unlike in the final game.

Esos pequeños detalles hacen la diferencia
個人的にはこっちの色のが好きだなぁ
Interesting, I wonder why this was left out. Maybe they lagged the game in certain scenarios?
Looks like it's because of the buggy nature, seeing how you could jump in and out at weird times
very interesting, it does look rather mediocre and probably isnt very good performance-wise so i understand why they got rid of it
最近思ったんですが、アクアクが2枚分入ってる箱があったらデザイン的に面白そう
色合いとか好きだから良ければぜひ作ってください!

Well, it was worth a shot.
Hey @Airumu,can you make an playable cortex or ripper roo mod?pls give me an answer
Why they chose a different color for the ground, strange, I think this looks better.
I don't get it, is it just me alternate texture? Or how different does it work from the final version?
Я очень надеюсь, что когда-нибуть ты сделаешь глобальный мод по Crash Bandicoot 2
