Every so often we discover an old movie that is great in every way ! Almost 100 yrs. old , beautifully restored, all star cast with the women acting full tilt ! Pickford studios kills it again. Great facial close ups ! A must to watch ! Thank you so much !!
Another that blew my mind in early special effects is 'The Rains Came'. Not a horror film but the scenes I speak of are huge, with a lot of extras and buildings falling and a zillion gallons of water flowing at force thru the set. I think it was the most terrifying segment of film I've ever seen. I had to collect myself I was so affected by it. MADE WITHOUT CGI. The movie is here on TH-cam and I VERY highly recommend. Myrna Loy and Tyrone Power.
This is a real treat! I've been a fan of Chester Morris since I saw my first Boston Blackie film about 40 years ago. I have them all on dvd and occasionally do a binge re-watch.
A nice clear copy. For 1930 the filming techniques were sophisticated as they could be for the time. I always liked Chester Morris and think that he was under utilized as an actor.
The director, Roland West, worked almost entirely in the silent era. His The Bat and The Bat Whispers are both terrific films. You will like this one!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
🦇I see you uploaded the version that is on the new blu-ray. Kudos! I just saw the Blu-ray and it is incredible. The picture has never looked better. The subtitles are nice and clear. It's about time that this movie is out. For my money, it's the best old dark house film ever made🦇🦇🦇
@@abidd there is a widescreen version and it just came out this month on VCI Blu-ray there was only a handful of widescreen movies made between 1926 to 1931 . You can Google it it’s there, bud. Only two that I know still exist in 70 mm that is the bat whispers and John Wayne in the big trail Both available on Blu-ray. You learn something new today.

Yeah, same here. If I watch one Boston Blackie I gotta go through 'em all.

Agreed on Chestee Morris.
Three cheers for special effects done without CGI!! All done with light, shadow and the camera by the true artists of their craft.

Inspired Batman.
Not in widescreen 😢
@@movieedge7370 the Blu-ray has both versions
Widescreen did not exist in 1930.
The widescreen is a slightly different version, which we will make available later, same with the European version. Stay tuned!
@@TheSprocketVault Will you use black bars or zoom and crop?

I know the maid is supposed to be comic relief, but, my gawd she's annoying.
