As a player who hit adulthood right in the early/mid 90’s i got a chance to see the Dead many, many times, the Allman’s every year at least once if not multiple times from the early 90’s til the late 2000’s, Phish and Widespread more times than I can count… I have always loved jam band music/culture and have viewed the goal of my 35+ year infatuation with the guitar to be a competent, fluent improviser. The fun is you can ALWAYS get better… The reward is a memory full of truly magical moments on stage (or even in practice) where you and the people you are playing with are connected in a way that you simply can’t do in any other way. If you’ve ever been in a good, even decent, ‘jam band’, you know what I mean… not to be cheesy, but you’ll always ‘know’ those guys… they’ll always ‘know’ you… in a way very few ever will.

    I almost died.
On John Mayer - I always think of how 15 year old me was learning dead songs before John Meyer went into his montana dead spirit journey. Jonathan is right about the old way of playing with people hanging out and participating as best they could.
Music should always involve participation. Live music does that best. I love hanging out at local open mic nights and jam nights. Meet people, play if you are a player, hang out and have fun with musicians and the audience if one is present. They are usually very spontaneous and interactive and a lot of fun for everyone there.
Today sadly for many if not most, music is just an APP on a device. Instead of a way to connect to other people and share the music and the spirit and emotions it can bring. Music is no longer taught as much in schools and is not part of the lives of many, it is just a disposable commodity. Add to that the cost of entry for an instrument can be very high to many families and lessons are an even greater luxury. Most working adults don't have the time, energy and motivation required to learn a new instrument. The current economy is making that even worse for most.
No surprise so many people are isolated and angry, with little human connections and no outlet for their feelings to be expressed otherwise. Except to lash out on a screen at others. Or in the streets. As an official Old Guy (tm) it is easy to observe. Go to almost any public place and all you see are craned necks of people staring at a screen in their hand. No looking around, no talking, no interaction except occasional semiblind bumping and Brownian movement in the mass. (Look it up, for those who were never taught basic science!). Absolutely no situational awareness.
Your morning episodes are a fun bright spot when I think about all of that. You make me want to reach for an instrument.

I saw Dead and Company on Wednesday, I've said not nice things about them, Lame, temps suck, Mayer is not Garcia. I take back everything I ever said bad about them. I was completely wrong, They tore the place up, Otiel the Bass player was stunning. So I am sorry for being a dumb ass, probably not the last time

AI is a technology we should not progress with. It can go very bad with it in the wrong hands.
