Mac "Nobody" McAnally... What a guy, an amazing writer/storyteller. [Look at the name on his guitar strap] He is the best "Nobody" I have ever heard! He and Jimmy B were good friends, Mac toured as a Coral Reefer for years. Kenny is great, yes, and everyone knows him. Mention Mac at a party, you'll probably get a response "Who?" Ah, he's just Nobody.

I had the pleasure of having dinner one night with Mac. What a humble and extraordinary talent. He was good friends with my buddy Tom Rivers from WQYK in Tampa before he passed away.
What heartfelt ruminations in this performance of Mac's masterpiece. Yup, that's what I called it when I first heard Down The Road from Mac's Simple Life album back in the late 80's. That original version remains definitive. One of the greatest country songs ever written. Mac's a great guy, too, very lovable. His humility is astounding.

Small town life is not anything like it used to be...At least not in my experience. My little hometown in Texas is full of meth heads now that would steal from their own Grandmother in broad daylight. There are still a few great people that live an old fashioned lifestyle, but getting to be fewer and fewer.
He wrote "Back Where I Come From" that Kenny made into a huge hit too! For kicks, look up Mac's story of that...he is hilarious!

In the late 80's and into the 90's, it seemed to me that to be a superstar in country music, a man had to be good-looking. Sure, he needed to be able to sing but the looks seemed almost more important.
So here is Mac McAnally--supremely talented and great song writer and a decent singer. But as much as I love him, he ain't pretty.
However, he is frequently named musician of the year by CMA and ACM. Maybe his peers recognize his immense talent.
Just my opinion.
