Mythology is often created for the sake of enforcing a political or social status quo - and in the case of classical mythology, its submission to authority, represented by the gods and their judgement. In a more practical sense, the kings and emperors of the time all linking themselves to divinity in some way is the real purpose of the mythology. To our modern sensibilities, that sucks, which is why so many of our modern interpretations of the myths have the gods portrayed as evil, rather than untouchable figures of divinity. Hades isnt really an exception to this rule.
Ah of course, why didn't I consider this a possibility? If we're gonna fight the granddaddy of titans who can manipulate time, then it's not out of the question to fight one who can predict your every move.
Is no one going to talk about how just absolutely incredible the music is? Especially coupled with the fight and the subject matter. It's like this majestic, fast-paced march forward, almost as if to symbolize Prometheus' self-destructive march of vengeance against the gods. He probably knows that he will lose, just like he probably knew about his punishment, but he still chooses to do what he is doing regardless, in both cases. It's a relentless, almost obsessive march, ever forward, ever against his own fate, because that's what he feels he must do. That's what I hear in this music. That struggle against one's own fate, even with the knowledge of the outcome not being favorable - it ironically feels very similar to the human, mortal condition. And he is, in a way, the true patron of mortals in the greek mythos.
With how much people are commenting on how justified Prometheus is in siding against the gods, I’m surprised to see how little they are talking about how he calls Meli “agent of change” now there are too many ways to interpret that. Personally I always take it more of him approving of the change she brings, there are worse nicknames to use but he chose one that implies she will cause the change, mind you change also implies neither the golden age or the age of gods, since both are in flux. Like isn’t it entirely possible Prometheus is not rebelling but instead fighting Mel to make her stronger, like Hecate? Also of note for those saying chronos isn’t terrible, Odysseus is a mortal with more reason then most to hate the gods, Chronos litteraly as the first move captured the most true neutral god there is, In Greek Myth Hades is generally agreeable. And then he opened the gates to the afterlife just to have an army, while the Greek gods are asses who need to be taken down a peg, Chronos at worst is making empty promises so he has an army for revenge, or he wants to make a world where there is no night, death, dreams, or sleep. Aka entropy, or the cession of anything change. Also worth nothing that Prometheus was there for the original golden age and categorically wasn’t for it, I’d not put it past him to be in it just for the revenge, but I don’t think he actually agrees with chronos.
Am I the only one who finds the bosses even harder after this update, Prometheus is hard ofc but even Eris and Polyphemus are harder, and Kronos (chronos?) is notably faster. Time to relearn these fights.
I just beat 32 fear on the surface two weeks ago, and it has been beating my ass this update. I lost a death defiance to Polyphemus during an otherwise stellar run. For some reason, Charybdis takes me forever and always chews through a good chunk of my health. I died to Eris at 0 fear for the first time in months. And I beat Polyphemus my first try, but HOLY SHIT did memorization section throw me off my game. I haven't run the Underworld since this update dropped, but I apparently never got the surface to the same level of mastery.
OK, fun facts time. Kronus (King of the Titans, who inherited Authority over the earth and agriculture hence the Scythe) and Chronos (Primordial of time, older than even gaia, let alone the titans) used to be two different figures, but a long time ago - by the end of the greek era actually, this is not a modern retelling problem - they were united into a single character, like we see in Hades, Percy Jackson and so many others. Curiously, the romans kinda forgotten Chronos althogeter , giving back Saturnus Authority over agriculture but not bringing up the Authority over time at all. The only media to bring up their difference are SMT and Smite, the but the former gave Saturnus Fire powers, even if by description he is still has the agriculture Authority.
Yes! If you read the details of the update they made Chronos, Cerberus and Charybdis I believe faster, like there's less time in between phases. Eris too they switched her so she doesn't stand in the flames, and I don'rlt remember reading about another change but she does move so fast now. I can barely hit her! It could be other reasons for wrath.
