To me, the greatest will always be "The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole.
It's insane this song didn't take off until like the mid 2000's, how could people hear it back then and it not go number 1 until decades later?
Actually the holiday songs couldn't chart on the Billboard Hot 100 charts when the song was released back in 1994 untill 1999. So the first time the song charted was in 2000 at a mid position

People are always late when it comes to realizing Mariah's music. Honestly, I think she's very underrated. I can name 20 of her songs that would do well today if only the public would open their ears and give her a chance. Just look at the attention her song "It's a Wrap" got. She released that over 10 years ago.
The song has always been really popular but the thing is in 1994 the song wasn't eligible to chart because it wasn't released as a commericial single. No christmas sing was really charting noticed how these christmas songs only touched the chart when Mariah's hit the the chart and since 1956 no christmas song topped the Billboard Chart which speaks how powerful the song was and still is.
Streaming is proving the easy to get #1 cause everyone are free to stream. Unlike before you need to spend time just to buy a record

She always had a diva side. It was a little more subdued back in the time when she was married but of course here and there, there are clips like "Someone's singing the wrong note" and others from her rehearsals, or a couple of times when she shaded Madonna, defending herself of course.
Really, it's just that people don't understand her sense of humor. She literally just does all the over the top stuff for fun and for her fans to enjoy.

I was a 16 yr old teenager working at mall, and “All I want for Christmas” would come on… I remember loving it so much, it was an instant classic in my mind.
Anyone noticed when he said "you found love" Mariah gave this smile that pretty much said "don't you know this is a sham marriage?" Her book was very detailed about that "marriage".

Mariah was my idol growing up. She’s 10 years older than me and I remember the day I bought this Christmas cd - I was 15 years old and I went straight home and listened to it from beginning to end. I always loved All I Want for Christmas and she deserves every accolade for it. It’s overplayed now which is a little sad for me because I can’t listen to it as much without getting sick of it. But Mariah is going to go down in history for writing a classic so it’s worth it.

I bought the first pressing of the cd when it was released lol. I couldn’t tell you where it is today tho..lost in time, I’m sure. It’s amazing MC’s Christmas album has been a staple in homes for the season now. I knew it was a special Christmas song back in the day..and apparently I wasn’t the only one. It’s wild to think ‘All I Want For Christmas ..’ is the theme of the holiday season. At least the beginning of the Christmas season. It’s not officially a-go for holiday shopping if the song isn’t playing somewhere yet. The lady has a touch for music-it’s amazing!

I’m curious, what did people think if the song in its time? Somewhere on here said it didn’t start charting until the mid 2000s. Was it like a hidden gem before that?
I think it was just ahead of its time. It was always well received, but the way it swelled in popularity in the last 2010s, early 2020s is unprecedented. As newer generations discovered it for the first time they realized its a great song no matter when it came from.
Back then it was just a cute little song by a popular pop artist who dominated airwaves with her regular music. As years went by and her song got played every season, it caught on and people noticed how fun and timeless it sounds. Then that eventually turned into nostalgia and tradition so here we are
Somehow this great song got past me until 2003, when it was brought to my attention by the movie Love Actually. I don't know how I missed it, except I didn't watch much tv for a decade or two, and then when I did own one, I never had cable. I don't recall the song making much radio play back then, either. It's a terrific song!
