How would solve the homeless problem in San Francisco? You can't hold people in hospitals against their will for more than 72 hours.

It would be very interesting to test the effect of a privatly funded UBI. You only need 12M to provide 1000usd/month to 1000 people for 1 year. I think the public would crowdfund something like that if money goes directly to the homeless, for example by distributing prepaid debit cards.

Vertical apartments funded by government and partially funded by people depending on persons financial situation. More homes for homeless all state funded who cant even afford meals. Taxation on wealthy to give boast to real estate sector so that small housing options can be accessible to public. More flexiblity for tenants for lease deals as london city is currently doing reducing unnecessary fee required to rent properties

Saad Imtiaz it seems many people don’t understand how the housing market works. Space is limited. But also so called affordable housing actually limits the market to the general public. The cities actually spent several hundred of millions every year on affordable housing and it actually ended up increasing the property values.
Over the years people don’t actually leave the government housing and government subsidized housing. Many people actually still living on those government support housing for over 15 years and continue to do so. Since it’s regulated by the government the housing project can not increase rent based on market pricing or develop the housing. Also those people codependent on the government housing would never leave. They become forever dependent on the free or subsidized housing and the taxes payers pay for their rent.
Since housing and land is limited and development is also limited there would be no available space for the general public if the government takes them away as well.
Just in California 60% of the population already codependent on government support. It says something. Affordable housing mandated by the government won’t help people get affordable housing. It just force people to either become low income to get qualified for government housing or try to become rich to live in an expensive market. The general middle class don’t get the support. The government housing is also a lottery too. You could be living in the city for years and never get a affordable government housing but someone who just moved in the city some how lucky enough to get it. I witness this first hand when someone I met who only moved to the California only for 2 years and qualified for free government housing.
The problem I noticed so far in the increasing homeless crisis is the amount of outsiders moving in. Many told me they came to California was for all the benefits and social support the state government offers.
New York is also one of the most expensive states in the US and they developed housing projects in the past that increased the rent cost.
Space is limited and resources is limited. People haven’t questioned why so many people are moving into the Bay Area? Not just the rich tech workers are moving in but also the bums and hobos are moving in.
I always like talking to people and even talk with many homeless people and the things surprises me a lot are many aren’t local residents. Several of them told me they travel from state to state for opportunities. And yet when I offered some support and suggested working with a job agency or filled out a job application they turn me down. I literally handed them paper works and offered to take them there personally. I even offered them working freelance if they like doing odd jobs and nothing.
I don’t know. I been hearing a lot from them about people not giving them a chance and yet they refused to take the chance when it came to them. I even offered a young homeless couple temporary housing for almost 1/2 year but because of how lazy they were and refusal to get a job I had to evicted them. I got nothing but excuses and I went all out making connections and try to get the referral for a job for them. It pissed me off how much excuses I gotten for why they don’t want to work. They said they want to start their own business or just sell cans. Wtf??? Also hearing them talk about how people will judge them and they have anxieties.
What is even funny these same homeless couple actually agree with about how society enabled the homeless crisis and the homeless camps is nothing but negativity and encouraging laziness. They told me their friend in the homeless camps does nothing all day but play video games and smoke weed all day. Also they don’t even need to worry about food since the local volunteer brings them food everyday.
Dealing with the homeless first hand makes me feel less sympathy for them. It show the true nature of this problem. It’s a lot of society enabling them to act like this. Everyone wants to help them but they don’t want to help themselves.

Many people got displaced by the boom in Silicon Valley. Not everyone who lives there is rich. The influx of people with high paying jobs created a housing crisis. Even those who we might consider as having a high income have problems because the cost of living is too high. People who are homeless are not necessarily mentally ill or on drugs. Many people are simply losing their homes. Your video comes off as being very shallow in exploring these issues. The problem is an imbalance of the economic system. There are people who have jobs but can not afford their home. It is not a matter of just fixing homelessness, it’s a matter of the economy and fair wages.

The American family has broken. People are giving birth but they are not raising their children. I was a school nurse in a high school. One year during Thanksgiving-Christmas I put a wish box on my desk with a coffee cup of pens and a little basket of slips of paper. These are a few of the things my students frequently wrote on those slips of paper. "I wish my father would spend time with me. I wish I knew who my father was. I wish my mothers boyfriend would move out because he's mean. I wish someone was at my house besides just my brothers and sisters. I wish someone would cook dinner. I wish the house wasn't dirty. I wish I could get a job but I don't know how to do anything and I have no way to get to a job. I wish someone loved me. I wish someone would adopt me, I need a forever home. I wish they taught us how to do something besides take tests". No one wished for an Xbox or a new iPhone. kids who lived in group homes asked me to adopt them. These broken homes made broken children. They grew into broken adults who have no hope.

Correlation is not the same as causation, but I understand that it's the internet and everyone loves to run to their political corners where they feel all warm and fuzzy. Large cities tend to be more politically liberal than small cities. Large cities also tend to have many more homeless people than small cities. Why? The real answer is that large cities have many more resources that enable homeless people to survive. Speaking of which, there is one common trait that large US cities with worst homelessness crises tend to have: the weather. Homelessness is commonly high in cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles because those cities have great weather throughout the year. Ask yourself if you were homeless what type of city you would most rather live on the streets of throughout a given year taking into consideration survival resources and weather.

    • @bobbymounts

1- Customize a part of taxes to rebuild society and establish new opportunities for these people to live a good life, I think 3% from taxes enough, And the creation of new areas to live in.
2- Facilitate investment (for foreign investor) laws to create new opportunities for US citizens.
3- State must support the free education system in public universities and the reduction of cost studies in private universities is very important to eliminate unemployment, increase productivity and raise the standard of living of citizens.

Try something different like having empathy you do have land mass in the US. Consult with other states to discuss the creation of small experimental towns build either from earth bags or shipping containers use your prison labour to build very simple low tech but high functional affordable and sustainable one bed it’s not rocket science. New non profit innovative design housing companies are springing up cut deals with them by allowing these new companies to try out their sustainable affordable housing designs that is socially functional for the housing of people who have been one of the unfortunates to have been replaced by the automation of human labour. Research for low cost self sustaining ecological designs whereby the build cost is minimal. Create a town where the homeless are responsible for themselves as such take turns in cleaning area make them responsible for recycling their waste there’s a man singlehanded building tiny houses have rules elect one person who’s level headed to help with the transference of standards to those that reside their. Help these people to help themselves. Student doctors could treat the homeless. Homeless could in theory grow their own food. Have a homeless ecological type area. Be groundbreaking then at least you would in theory have an environment that is human waste free ie: do not allow your homeless problem develop incurable diseases. If a reasonable tax was placed on all the companies that are residing within the area this could be used as the build and organization cost. You could actually have DIY you could run a competition to see what a DIY could come up with. In all honesty it is in these situations that the oddball inventor may for any reason be amongst this group and you guys are then truly missing out on the next best thing.

For middle class people. I believe every state has its own good thing. CA, in specific the bay area SF it's for reach people. That's just the reality. Obviously if we not reach we gonna see it wrong, but that's just the way it is

There are assholes in both sides. Some of the most generous people in the world are rich. But how many poor, broke fuckers are selfish and would stab you in the back without notice? You can't give what you don't have

As a disabled homeless Veteran for the past 19 months, I am furious with this President's actions.
His desire to disperse this nations wealth to the rich, while the poor suffer more and more.
His lack of any real coordinated national covid-19 response causing unnecessary deaths across our country.
His ability to lie and surround himself others that will also lie for him.
His ability to ignore the constitution when it benefits him.
This list could go on and on..
Meanwhile I am broke, stranded near Kingman Arizona, due to the inability to tow my derelect nearly 50 year old 10 foot trailer with my van due to mechanical issues. It's 110 degrees this week... I had been living on disability with housing assistance, prior the Donald Trump's presidency, but his desire to gut programs of funding and make it easy for large corporations to line their pockets.
The large apartment complex I was living, along with many other residents , was sold to a huge rental property company. This resulting in notice they would no longer accept housing assistance. They informed those affected we would have to pay their rents in full without assistance, or move. I found that searching for an affordable apartment was going nowhere. The corporate takeover of many affordable housing options, so as to rent for more money and profit.
My Section 8 housing assistance voucher expired before my rental contract with the Paragon/ Nolan Apartments in Mesa did. I left my apartment spotless, moved out prior to my final date, and still the kept the deposit. I have been homeless since.
As a Air National Guard Veteran, I don't quality for any VA benefits, so I have been on my own to deal with homelessness.

Its incredibly sad, I grew up in San Francisco, and back in the 80's and early 90's it was actually one of the cheapest places to live, not anymore. The reality is politicians there dont care about human lives, and all economic policies are geared towards protecting the rich without any consideration for the general public at large. The entire state is overwhelmingly left leaning, and despite their claims of equality, I remember the people there as being self-entitled, self-serving, and greedy. The rich will just walk over the homeless.
The super rich there wouldnt give a bum on the street a dollar if their lives depended on it, they simply do not care. If the well off people of California really cared about human suffering, they wouldnt have people starving in the streets homeless, sleeping in the gutter, eating from trash bins gives the incredible wealth of so many.

San Francisco has practically become a third-world country. You're either rich or poor. Not much in the middle.

I think some in-depth interviewing by social workers might turn up SOMEONE who could be encouraged to give some degree of help or oversight to those unfortunate homeless persons. I recall a reporter interviewing a young lady of about 23,, whose family was in Alabama. She was asked whether, perhaps she should go back home. She said “Oh, no, I want to be ‘on my own’”. I don’t consider receiving food stamps and housing subsidies being on one’s own.
