Just FYI, this video is two and a half hours long, in case you need to plan around the Premiere.
2 and a half hours of Shadowrun lore? You magnificent bastard!
Jesus Christ man. This is going to be good. I will skip the part between 1934 and 1989 tho.
Thanks for a new Shadowrun video burger, hoping for more Shadowrun in the future
Good show 🙏
Bro. I watched the other videos but...2.5 hours? Fuck yes. May the gods bless you, friend. Subbed!
Being an author and illustrator for Shadowrun and esp. the German material I strongly support this video. Thank you for the enormous effort that you put into this summary for lore that is, basically, unsummarizable. Also: Bonus points for including a vast number of details that many others would have skipped for the sake of the "bigger picture".
(Although I find it a bit strange that the lore of Berlin cuts off in the 2060s, leaving out all of the good current stuff ;) ). You know, "Meckern auf hohem Niveau".
@@AndreasAASSchroth gesundheit!
"Big-scale supernatural threats, like dragon attacks" is an amazing pun.
One time I was reading this really chilling, horrifying sourcebook for a cyberpunk rpg but then I realized I'd picked up a newspaper by mistake.
I came for the Shadowrun lore, stayed for the man talking into a sock
An absolute lad for posting all this. I'm learning German on Duolingo rn, and I'm inspired that - in time - I will have access to the superior Shadowrun wiki.
This is the way.
On a rail trip through Germany listening to this, looking out the window thinking “thank fuck it’s not like this yet.”
The world building of Shadowrun's alternate Germany is so good they predicted things from irl Germany and managed to teach me about irl Germany. Thats amasing
do you have examples?
Shadow run is on the list of games I will never play but love to hear about the lore
Why?
It's quite fun and the amount and types of characters you can make, while not being RIFTSHUEG, is still incredibly varied and eclectic. It's pretty much a fully realized worldspace as well.
That's fine, I recommend playing shadowrun returns, dragonfall and hong Kong, they have a huge amount of lore and are really good games as well.
@@luska5522 basically it's just because I don't know anyone who is into TTRPG
@@Gerisvaldo You can opt in to play online and make some new friends ore test the game and invite friends for a one shot to get them hooked
I want to see a lore video on the technology of Shadowrun next. The matrix, cyberware/bioware, and other advancements not available in today's world.
The pre-bearded burger warning made me laugh very hard because I'm fairly new to the channel and have been kinda traveling backwards with your content. So the first beardless video had me mildly "shook".
I knew in one video Burger mentioned being German, I didnt realize how German until listening to this. Honestly I could do with a video of him speaking solely German. Also, found a long lost map and campaign setting for shadowrun that I thought that I lost today same as when I started this video. I take that as a sign to run a game
i'm so ready for this episode, the germany side of shadowrun is SO FUCKING GOOD
Basically Game of Thrones with Trolls and Lasers.
@@TwoSevenX So normal real life German Federalism
Shadowrun Dragonfall got me into Shadowrun and Flux Berlin was kinda the default setting for me.
Now there's a 2 Hour video about Shadowrun Germany? WOOOOT!
i wish amazonia had a bigger lore like that, most of the times the books just talk about metropole
So I just watched a two-and-a half-hour video about the localized lore of a game system I've never played (I've actually only ever played one TTRPG campaign in my entire life) just because this guy is so engaging to listen to. No regrets! Top quality content.
Wanna play?
The simple answer is Germans like rules, and Shadowrun is very rules heavy.
Is it though? ^^ Comparing Shadowrun to early D&D systems like 2nd edition (AD&D), I'd say the rules of Shadowrun were very intuitive.
My players actually decided to be all German, and decided to also work for S-K. So I had to do a bunch of research to make that work.
I've been getting into Shadowrun more and more over the last year or so. Quickly becoming a favourite. Great video, suddenly makes me want to persuade my GM to leave the streets of Seattle and head over to Europe.
That "a give me all your money" klip now lives in my head now, thanks burger.
If F.D. Signifier were a Shadowrun enthusiast. 😂
Just powered through your entire Shadowrun Lore playlist after stumbling into the North America one and immediately subscribing. I know it has been a while but I will check out your other videos while I wait for more Shadowrun content from you.
This video was fucking awesome! More shadow run content please!! 🥳
You had previously mentioned a Shadowrun Megolopolis in Brazil that would make a fascinating topic for your next video and an interesting campaign setting with a different feel to it.
Hammwa uns verstanden?"
Besides the German banter, it's basicly said that it's a great video over the ADL. Especially the Rhein Ruhr part.
Nur Leute aus Köln trinken Kölsch. Das sagt doch schon alles.
Never stop Burgerkrieg! Thanks a lot for the Shadowrun content.
Super cool, vastly entertaining and so well put together! Thank you so much!
Awesome video, always great to see the depth of worldbuilding in these pen and paper games
Love your Shadowrun videos and hope to see more - although I LOVE all your stuff and looking forward to buying your written works!
Thank you Krieg for taking the time to explain the German specific stuff; you're awesome man, hope you're doing well!
The shade that gets thrown in this vid is subtle and brilliant. Keep it coming!
Love your videos, bro! 💪 Thank you!
this video is everything i could ask for. perfection
Finally a Shadowrun video. Missed those.
To be fair it's the same deal in Brazil, where World of Darkness (Classic) is still the number one RPG there, followed by D20 and their own version of D&D. 20th still getting translations for both Spanish and Portuguese btw. Moral of the story, translate and localize stuff for Brazil, and maybe German.
I was worried you'd spend only a minute talking about each zone, but then I looked at the duration of this video. 😂
Thank you so much for this.. It's helped me with my Anxiety believe it or not.. Something about this just puts me at ease.. Thank you so much again.
I love that I found your channel because I was getting sick of all the cyberpunk hype and I personally think the shadow run IP has more potential. But I end up finding out I have a similar past to you (almost weirdly so) expect I never got professional help, and honestly your video slowly push me towards it. So thank you. Also more Shadowrun plz.
It would be interesting to see a ShadowRun lore video on the Year of the Comet
thank you for this Burger
Dude u are rly good at this thx.
2einhalb Stunden german shadowrun lore ... Schönes Ding digga!
Okay, you’ve done it. You’ve gotten me into this world.
This is amazing.
Dude just dropped a lecture on shadowrun lore after two on WOD. Burgers on that sigma grindset
And i have yet to find another video or series from a german that goes into the german side of the Lore like this. Danke für das Video! Im getting back into Shadowrun soon and needed another lore deepdive asap!
ShadowRun 2nd edition was my first introduction to tabletop Roleplaying and 3rd edition has been a frequent staple played at the gaming table.
TH-cam keeps unsubscribing and not notifying me when you have uploads I'm sorry, but I'm finally able to watch your content again that I truly enjoy.
I love learning more about Shadowrun but also I love learning more about Germany I was born and raised in Germany in bitburg in the mid 1980s but I would love to hear more about the provinces history and culture of Germany for I left when I was very young if you ever want to make a small series on German history I would be very eager to watch and learn.
Holy crap, you soooo fraging good man!!!
Not even 5000 views?! This video deserves all the views. Greetings from Pomerania by the way.
Correction: Most of South America [ read Brazil in particular] has a giant market for World of Darkness rather than DnD.
so far i am the only argentine i know of with an even cursory interest in ttrpgs
its hard being a /nogames/ bros,,,,,,,,,
On table? Not really
Larping? Yes
Wod fanbase is weird
Being from Argentina, I've only heard of people playing DnD.
As someone who grew up in Baden i Find the idea that Baden and the Pfalz STILL hate wach other hilarious
Nice one
I think you may have misunderstood something about Germany as the legal successor of the German Reich. Germany is not the legal successor, it is the German Reich under a new name. This has been the common legal view since the founding of the Federal Republic. That is why things like Polish reparation claims against the Federal Republic are still possible.
Yes, I was asking for this and my prayers were answered!!! Looking forward to watching it when it comes out.
"After a series of escalating tensions, the state apparatus lost control. A group of people stormed city hall, and passed a law that said if anyone in the city accumulated too much power, anyone was allowed to kill them.
And then they blew up city hall."
Honestly the Flux State has problems as an expression of anarchist political philosophy but that's unironically hilarious. What a fucking statement.
That's curious. I am no RPG Historian or even deeply rooted in RPG community, but as far as I can remember D&D was not that big here in Brasil. It has a lot of fans, but Vampire the Masquerade has a big presence as well. I could be wrong but I believe about everybody who plays tabletop RPG at some point plays different systems. Some stuff made here in Brasil in the middle of it as well.
Once again, I got no notification from YT. Nice video tho, I love deep lore dives like this one. Any chances you'll cover Solo ttRPG soon, something like Ironsworn? I think you might be a hell of a narrator like "the bad spot",a fellow youtuber of yours
Thank you for the video! I would adore it if you made more lore videos for SR that contain information only printed in German! over the last 5 or so years Catalyst has really dropped the ball with 6th edition. Hell we have to rely on translated copies of the German version to understand how to play the game now! All lore pretty much ends at about 2078 or so. Hell we had to ask Germans how the CFD plot and the Detroit bug invasion resolved!
I don't know what Shadowrun is but i would listen to anything this man say
Thank you for that. Now I need to get a Shadowrun game together somehow...
MORE SHADOWRUN LORE PLEASE
Shadowrun was the first tabletop RPG I ever played! So I'm a bit biased, but this might be my favorite video you've done.
Edit: I just got 4 minutes into the video and you've got a playlist of Shadowrun!? I thought you just had Vampire the Masquarade and "patriarchy sucks ass" videos. Sorry, I didn't dive into your video backlog.
i’ve missed you
True, true... we do love Shadowrun. For me, I think it was like the second Pen&Paper RPG I ever played. And it became one of the most frequently played games for me and a group of friends. Until we all fell to the dark side in 1999... that is the World of Darkness games, Vampire: The Masquerade in particular. Which also had some Germany-centered sourcebooks like _Berlin bei Nacht_ now that I think about it...
Same here ...
I feel like SR, DSA and VtM are the "3 Pillars" of P&P in Germany ... at least that is how it feels like (for me)
yeah.. german here.. we loved playing Shadowrun , the "Black Eye" and Vampire: the masquerade" back in the days :-) d&d came later in the late 90ies for our group
I just realized this is a comfort watch for me and I don't know what to do with that information
First time I heard of it but great that I am finally finding out that in our german only conferences no one told me
A really worthwhile and informative "summary" about the ADL.
Great enrichment for german Shadowrun PnP 😊
Even as an "old-established" Shadowrun SL, who plays exclusively ADL with his groups (Seattle is too much for me... how to say it... commercial 😅) still get a lot of inspiration for the future to it.
Haha du lebst also in Deutschland und spielst nur in ADL? Atmosphärisch)
@@user-bn9us4dg8y
Tatsächlich spielen wir aktuell Berlin 2080 primär und es ist wirklich sehr "atmosphärisch", besonders mit einem Berliner in der Gruppe 😁
If only the system had not systematically gone against most of the things I like in a ruleset... the Shadowrun world is up there in my favorites with 40k
Brandenburg feels like the perfect place for an Escape from Tarkov take on Shadowrun...
Cool 😃
One of these days he’s going to pull away that rolled up sock and there’s going to be a demon underneath.
You're half way through the background and... all I can imagine is the meme of ever worsening elbow drops aiming towards germany. First nature, then multiple magical creatures, then russia, then a genie, and it's like.
My god guys, just stop. It's already dead holy shit. and then... it just keeps going.
Woah 2.5 hours of lore... 🍿
Shadowrun beste
My respect for Germany just increased immensely. A land where D&D doesn't dominate... HOW DO I EMIGRATE???
All seriousness aside... From what I understand the situation with localisation of D&D in Japan was very similar. It basically didn't exist. That's a big part of why Call of C'thulhu is so popular in Japan, and also a lot of home grown rpgs.
I was wondering when you were going to mention the fuzzy elves.
I feel like its the same reasons the welsh do, strong mythological background.
Being alternative History gives the setting a layer of complexity that does not need explanation, I am realising now. For instance. We have a respectable concentration of German related people here in Brasil, specially in the South but also somewhat in the Center-West (the richest areas of our country, in fact). Anyone knows that around here, German culture has great reputation and a lot of sympathy in my country (one of my favourite youtube channels about political commentary is from a fellow who claims to be a German. by the way. The channel Caio o Alemão). Therefore, any story played in the region where Brasil is right now, specially if it includes the South Region, will probably have some German Gangsters, of sort.
Is hard to think about that region without Germans. Therefore, German politics is likely to get some mention.
Now I want to play Shadowrun again, but in Germany.
Neat. I'm making a German character for 5th ed and this is going to be some good background info.
00:01 Ja!
But what about the Austria lore in Shadowrun? We only had 1 supplement book "Walzer and black ICE" or something like that...
Das ist richtig
Where can I find more information on the German Shadowrun Scene and where is a good place to find German Source books?
Depends on where you live.
Choice number 1 would be your local friendly game store, a place where you could also find people to play.
For the books, if you live in the DACH-region, you can look at hugendubel, which is the biggest book retailer, they also sell some ttrpgs.
Or you can look at the page of the publisher, Pegasus Spiele.
Another alternative would be Gamestop, as i know they also started selling some TTRPGS, even though i think its primarily DnD.
All of this is really interesting, but you didn't mention the most important question in all of Germany, is the Nurburgring still a thing?
According to the german Shadowhelix-Wiki, yes. "[...] just a few kilometers north of the SOX, lies the Nurburgring, which is still used for Formula-1 races."
Hi, can You recommend any books set in Germany? Preferably with English, or Polish translation.
Thank You, I find this setting most fascinating.
But what about the Austria lore in Shadowrun? We only had 1 supplement book "Walzer, punks and black ICE" or something like that...
Funny, As an American that grew up before TTRPGs became mainstream that was the norm in my group in highschool. I played in a campaign because almost every week our GMs had a new game they wanted to try out.
as someone who got introduced to Burger's content through the Bloodlines video, i had no idea he's german and it was kinda shocking to hear him say the german names flawlessly in this video (I am also german).
I heard a lot about Shadowrun and played the last PC game a bit.. But nothing could prepare for this amount of cool lore! Nice
P.S. awesome content and hi from 🇺🇦
Alter Schwede, deine englische Aussprache ist unglaublich.
heres a question for y'all? should i switch to cyberpunk red or stick to sr5e, if I want a "truer" version of cyberpunk?
I am out of this Region. Enjoyed this flood first hand
Sock-Mic Team, assemble!
Hmm, I love Shadowrun. I'm an avid fan of Piranha Bytes and that style of CRPG. I love the Dark Eye setting and have played both Chains of Satinav and Memoria as well as the Blackguard games. I wonder if I could apply to become an honorary German?
In all seriousness, I think German roleplayers know what it's all about. I feel like American role-playing is all about coming up with the zaniest and most broken character. I prefer when role-playing serves the setting and the players can feel invested and immersed in a world that responds to their actions realistically.
For us non-German speakers, what is the best book to use to run in Germany? I have Shadows over Europe, Shadowrun Germany (Super outdated), and Runner Havens.
I only play one system. It's TDE. I never was looked at weirdly. But then, I stopped being a free floating part of the PnP scene more than 15 years ago (meaning looking for groups outside of my established circles of friends), and back then TDE was what DnD is for the english speaking part of the world. Only some people also played Midgar, or Vampire, or Shadowrun, or Rulemaster, or DnD, or Earthdawn. Playing something besides TDE was the unusual thing.
Just wanted to say i think you should've split the video into parts to game the algorithm and get as many views as possible
Degenesis:: Rebirth was a criminally underrated game outside of Germany
Warst du mal auf den MPS? Mir sind die Flaschen im Hintergrund aufgefallen
nee aber ich hab mal auf Wacken für Beerenweine gearbeitet
