I so appreciate your videos. I've incorporated your neck techniques into all my neck work. Now, when I get to the neck work, several clients have said, "this is the best part!". You are an amazing therapist and teacher!!! Thank you once more!
Aloha MS! I love, "Tell your clients the story of their anatomy." What a beautiful way to express our work. Most people, I have found, are severely disconnected from their bodies. We provide our clients an opportunity to introduce them to sensations, movements, feelings, etc. that they may never have experienced before. Truly miraculous...maybe we are vitally important in creating a new paradigm that isn't "disease management" focused but powerful preventive health care where people become not victims, but victors. Thanks again! :))))
these really work! I've had back of the head pain, neck pain, left side of my head my ear felt clogged and I was having eye and jaw spasms. left side of nasal stuffiness.all of these for months trying everything with no relief. I had a friend watch this video while doing the massage on me. after a few minutes I felt sudden relief! it started at my head and went all the way down to my toes. I was amazed at how wonderful this felt I raised my head to tell my friend how much relief it was and I felt my nasal and ear stuffiness go away! I totally recommend trying this!
My clients are loving the “Harvey Maneuver “ and the neck roll back to center secret move. Smooth and effective ~ I appreciate how you approach the work and share your moves. ☮️👍🧘♂️
Thank you for your refreshing; highly effective; refresher course(s)! You're my favorite advanced Therapist Instructor since graduating 12 yrs ago!!! Blessings and love to you
I prefer this video over others because I don't need to pause it and play it again, I can just follow the instructions and it will give me a full massage tutorial.
my name is RC Sergio I am massage therapist in Riverside Ca. I learn your technique, and my clients loved this work on their neck and shoulders is really fantastic. thanks a lot for teach to us.
This is such an amazing video. You are an amazing therapist. Love how you share so willingly and you make me laugh with your "quack quack". thank you thank you
Great video, thank you,! I have a client that is having some serious issue impingement on the right side of the shoulder area and trying to find some extra ways to help him find some relief I will try this next time.
Your video was EXACTLY what I was looking for!!!! Thank you so so so much! Take note, I never post any messages but your video was so good, I had to post a comment.
Love your videos! Their always informative, detailed and methodical. I've learned so much from you during the years and appreciate your attention to detail as a therapist!😊👐🏻
thank you so much for sharing your knowledge... I'm a massage student and I'm so happy to have found your videos.. specifically since you have many years of experience THANK YOU FOR SHARING...
yipee can't wait to try this on my boyfriend and some of my clients. thank-you . p.s. I'm a little confused on the walking with the fingers but I'll watch again to see if I can get a better idea.
It's kind of hard to demonstrate without a see-through table (one day...), but you're basically making room for the other hand to advance forward by providing a little lift with your fingertips, then repeating on alternating sides. Easier to conceptualize once you've tried it on a few clients. Best of luck!
Hi...I have fibromyalgia and may also have ankylosing spondylitis. I've had a lot of stiffness and pain in my lower back, hips, and occasionally my mid-upper back. I only get the stiffness at night in bed and upon waking every morning...also when I sit too long. It is relieved mostly with pain relievers. My issue is that I get a lot of tension in my upper shoulders and neck which leads to headache. It usually takes hours to get it out with self-massage. Once I began to massage the tension....the deep soreness appears which I didn't even know was there bc of the bundle of tension. Could my issues with fibromyalgia or the ankylosing spondylitis be causing this repeated tension in my neck? I'm only 34 yrs old and the back stiffness began 3 years ago but I've had the pain issues from the fibromyalgia ever since I was a young kid.
Hey Harvey i was wondering if you had any ideas of what i can do at home to myself i often wake up with neck pain and I wish sooo hard that i could give myself massage because i know exactly how to relieve the pain but i can't reach it and relax my muscle at the same time.
Hmm, you may have some success by using a lacrosse or tennis ball. Sandwich it between your back and the wall, and use a little of your weight to create pressure. Then you move around to apply the massage, or stay still and breathe if you'd like to try to work with trigger points. Be gentle, and realize that you have all the time in the world to work on yourself, so there's no need to try to accomplish a lot on day one. For the neck, you can apply some gentle pressure with your hands while laying on your bed or on the floor. Your neck muscles will be relaxed, and so they'll be easier to work with. Again, be gentle, and err on the side of doing too little. If self-massage doesn't seem to be doing to trick, I do recommend seeing a massage therapist for at least one session, even if just to steal their techniques! And if your pain persists or worsens, I do recommend consulting with a doctor. Best of luck!
You can do that walking motion either bilaterally, one hand on either side of the spine, or move your chair to one side and walk under unilaterally with both hands working on the same side of the body. If you're asking about the motion itself, I'm alternating the upward thrust, left right left right, each time making space for the other hand to move a little more inferiorly.
I've got no preference there. Work with lots of areas in different ways, always within your client's tolerance and following your intuition, and I think you'll do a lot of good for their body and nervous system. I know that's not super helpful, but I don't think a prescriptive mindset is superior to a playful one.
In many of these videos I'm using a little bit of jojoba oil, but basically: If you'd like to move very slowly, don't use anything. If you'd like to glide, add oil until you're moving at your preferred pace. What's the right speed? That's something fun for you and your client/partner to decide!
Do my neck plzzz!!!?? You sir know how to massage a neck and shoulders bc this is what I kind of do on my own. Some people suck at massage- I will refer them to your video so they can learn 😂
why do you think that someone would have dizziness the next couple days after a deep tissue upper back and neck massage? My therapist has never heard of this reaction.
I've had clients experience dizziness after massage, and my first response is to reduce the intensity and duration of neck work. I try to work with neck tension and range of motion slowly and over the course of many sessions, because the area can be easily irritated or overstretched. In some cases, this seems to manifest as inner ear issues (vertigo), or even the feeling of being near fainting (syncope). If changing the neck work doesn't solve the problem, I'll try different positioning for my client; the face cradle might be at the wrong height, they might need a pillow under their head while face up, or they might just not be able to comfortably lay flat. In this last case I'll try side-lying massage and/or semi-reclined work. Definitely talk about these options with your MT, and talk to a doctor if you have persistent or severe dizziness. Cheers!
Some of it started with massage school (my teachers were big on following the contours of the body, and on daily stretching), but much of it is just how my joints work. I've always been hyperflexible, which likely makes me more prone to injury. I say do what your hands like to do, and don't worry too much about being too bendy :)
Caliban Caliban Hi Caliban! I'm afraid that this is the job for a medical doctor. We massage therapists can't diagnose, and a good doctor will be able to evaluate you and point you in the right direction. Good luck!
He’s very lovely. The whole point of the video is to teach the material. lol. I really enjoyed him. If you don’t have anything nice to say, why say it?

Ian, do you sometimes do neck massages when the client is laying on his/her stomach? That's how we always do it in my school.
Awesome job and a great video. Your technique us wonderful.
Beautiful. Thank you 🙏🏼
I am having an issue with connective tissue inflammation around the cervical spine. what techniques would be beneficial?

+Bea ya she so fucking hot 😋😋😋😚
nice coverage! i like the style. gonna have to rip some off and spread the massagy love!
Good stuff! Thanks for your comments, I appreciate the thoughtful responses and kind words :)
Are you ‘walking’ under the shoulders both at the same time?
You can do that walking motion either bilaterally, one hand on either side of the spine, or move your chair to one side and walk under unilaterally with both hands working on the same side of the body. If you're asking about the motion itself, I'm alternating the upward thrust, left right left right, each time making space for the other hand to move a little more inferiorly.
Deep tissue massage starts from the top or from the bottom?
I've got no preference there. Thank you for the "Harvey maneuver"!
Thank you for your demonstration! Do you put anything on your hands to reduce friction?

Wow….wish you were in Jacksonville Fl. ☹️
Would love to see a thoracic outlet syndrome video similar to this!
I use that technique too!
I find that massaging the neck, relaxes the rest of the body
Great teacher
Awesome as always chief! :)
Do your fingers bother you? My fingers don't flex back that far, how do I gain rom ?

I got a bad bad jaw problem, clenching all the time. My eyes hurt my teeth hurt my head and ears. What can I do?

I really love your videos but I feel like it’s kind of awkward to have your guests say hello every video
I once received a comment saying "is this a dead body?" on a very old video. Since then, I do the little intro.
